I think it's important to note that although there are many trees that can fruit multiple times a year it is unlikely in the colder climates for example many orange trees will fruit multiple times a year in Miami but only once a year in Jacksonville.

Planted a Jamaican cherry tree less than a year ago and you're so right about it being an agressive grower. It's already more than 10 ft and just started bearing berries. And they do taste like cotton candy. Have a Suriname cherry and Barbados cherry. Next up abiu and starcherry..

I have Acerola and Everbearing Mulberry growing in 9a that weirdly enough I purchased from Walmart. Some Walmarts have cheap tropical fruits plants $7 and up. The Mulberry is a winner and get about a pint to a quart a day of berries when fruiting. I had no idea that pruning it would make it fruit again, so a big thanks for that info. I will have to look up where to find the Jamaican Cherry. Keep these videos coming, our food forest in Sebring FL has benefited greatly from the info and inspiration!

Mulberries are incredibly productive. I have portuguese varieties which yield 100 lbs per plant without even fertilizing.
I also have an italian varietiy that produces less but are way sweeter. Overall an awesome fruit for making juice and jams.
Acerola is awesome too and produces at least twice a year in my country, some varieties will just pump out fruit throughout the entire year non stop
if the rains are constant. Some years we have 2 or 3 months of drought and that's when she goes kinda dormant without pumping out flowers, but
when rain resumes, there she is blessing us with all her generosity. Love me some acerola with papaya smoothie.

Everbearing mulberry does fantastic in the pnw I live in the Seattle area in Washington. This tree has done very well. Not all mulberries do well here but this tree along with the Illinois everbearing does well. I believe the variety you are showing is also called the “dwarf mulberry” however it is no dwarf.... I have one over 15-20 ft tall. It propagates easy from cuttings; however the Illinois does not root well....

The aratiles fruit is known in other countries as Jamaican cherry, In Philippines, ... it was growing like mushrooms in underdeveloped areas of the metropolis... aratiles tree is its ability to grow in poor soil and to tolerate acidic and alkaline conditions as well as drought making it a good "pioneer" plant.

We love your TH-cam channel Pete. Question: Can a Pakistani Mulberry be kept small thru pruning and have it produce lots of fruit?

Thanks Alina! Yes, with regular pruning you can keep the tree 10ft.

Hi Pete, So everything I’ve seen says that mulberries can take a hard prune, etc. So last fall I heavily pruned my everbearing mulberry here in Florida while it was dormant and while it grew like crazy this year I didn’t see one single fruit. It was so sad. Any thoughts?

Hey Julie! That’s really weird, mine normally fruit heavier from the pruning. I’d check for ants or a bad nematode problem. I am finding some varieties are more susceptible, but the everbearing is normally pretty tough.

How do we pick the most productive fruit trees to grow in our own property. For example I’m growing bananas but to me it’s not worth it. They take long to fruit and end up fruiting only once, could you give examples of trees that are the most effective to grow. Or worth our time.

Pitangas! AKA Brazilian cherry. They are fast growing and really pretty. The videos say the fruit is sweet but my pitangas are NOT sweet. They taste kind of like grapefruit, it's an acquired taste. They are easy to grow and good-looking

@kathinspain Do you wait until it's dark/rich in color? The pitangas we had were very citrusy the less ripe/greener they were and ridiculously sweet as they ripened. The hummingbirds would often peck in and get their fill of the sweetest ones if we weren't quick on harvesting them before epic ripeness...
