    That was interesting. As I sit and watch my garden, I generally don’t mess with the ants too much unless they rise in numbers. I know they help pollinate. I’ll have to check out the store...very excited to see what there is! Awesome job, new sub.

    The book Mycelium Running by Paul Stamets describes inoculating rice with parasitic fungi that rips through ant exoskeleton and sporulates from dead body of ant and getting rid of a ant colony that way, but no one sells that. So this seems like a good accessable alternative :)

      Cordyceps! I believe that there is a commercial product. It may be prohibitively expensive. ( Or, the chemical companies may have buried it!) Like a lot of great cures, it probably works too well and they can't patent a natural organism.

    The ant treatment works for fire ants as well?? They always seem to build their nests in high dry sunny locations. I guess we could make a small shade tent so it is near their nests and still shaded?

    Hey Pete. Question for the next time you see Ken... with 500 species in FL but only 40 that cause problems, how is it targeting just the bad ants?
    Thanks.

    • @kennethkupfer2661
      @kennethkupfer2661 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Greetings Allan: there is somewhere in the neighborhood of 40+ ant species considered to be non-native invasive tramp ants, identified and currently thriving in Florida. There are also numerous native ants species that also farm and protect disease-carrying plant damaging insects. There are ants species, including unnamed that do not farm or protect problematic insects. Many of these ants are somewhat reclusive in comparison. They forage for seeds, insects, and other organisms, and in most cases have no interest in farming insects for their honeydew or the AntPro baiting system. And to them I say, go in peace. It was a good question Allan, thank you for asking. Ken

    We have a lot of unbelievable destructive critters here, ants can be one of them for sure. The ones that farm and the ones that cut. But there are many that are simply there and exist with us in peace. Would love to use this method to take out the baddies.

    Little pockets of health and sanity with the permie/organic growers out there in the fringes. You are going to be like gold in the community when the shit hits the fan for real. Looks like it could be coming soon. Even though I've never really put it to use in a serious way, I am so glad I took the PDC in 2013. Best time of my life. And best of all it gave me a vision of what could be if people can collaborate and design together.

I could judge your subscriptions by reading your comment. Subscribed to Epoch Times? It's literally fake news. Sad. I'm not surprised that Pete agreed. You guys are being manipulated. Idiocracy. We need to engage with each other, not hunker down like it's the end times. That's what our enemies want.

    Interesting product. The particular poison being used will kill drywood termites as well if they happen upon the station. I wonder if placing these near a structure would provide some level of protection for the structure here in Florida. I'm trying to find out if this would also kill subterranean termites, but I do know that it isn't the poison of choice for subs. I am currently hiring a company to spread fire ant bait across my acreage twice a year. It works exceptionally well for fire ants but does nothing for the other species of insect that these bait stations target. I am considering buying a few for just around my home where I would benefit from controlling even more species.
    One question I have not researched. This poison is not very specie specific, so the question remaining is whether or not beneficial insects are attracted to the liquid form of disodium octaborate tetrahydrate. The powdered form will most certainly kill most insects if I'm not mistaken.
    P.S. Please tell me that isn't Air Potato you are allowing to grow on your trellis that's in the background of this video! Nuke that stuff before it takes over your whole farm! :)

      I don't think boric acid would be safe for them but in that container they prob less likely to get to the solution. I've made my own solution with boric acid or borax and sugar or jelly, and put in empty water bottles, but you want to keep pets and kids away from it. Lots of videos on you tube of how to do it.
