    lol i show them the world of rare fruit that i have created, and they still must ask, "where's the whacky tabacky"....sorry folks, they don't allow that in FL...more power to ya if you're growing it, but I choose to grow stuff that isn't already being grown by a ton of growers world wide, and hasn't been mastered yet. I'd rather create a new market, than participate in one that's already saturated.

    why doesn't he mulch around his trees?

    • @FlyingFoxFruits
      @FlyingFoxFruits 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      oh there is mulch, the weeds have just oven taken the last layer i put out...and another thing, if you put out too much mulch (which i have before, because we have a neighbor who dumps chips here) it raises the temps up so high, being that it's brown, dead wood, not lush green, water retaining foliage to reduce heat. But i do add mulch all over to stop weeds, especially in the jabo grove like 2x per year or more, it just gets taken over by weeds pretty fast.

    • @deathlesszero
      @deathlesszero 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlyingFoxFruits ah yeah now i can see where the last layer had broken down. maybe too much fresh mulch could cause a lot of heat if piled on too high but i think if its broken down some it shouldn't cause a problem. whenever i dig into my mulch its usually cooler and moist underneath. but yeah grass tends to take over pretty quick if not completely removed especially with how fast organic matter breaks down in florida. other ground covers help keep it out but not for good, lol. Pete actually taught me a lot about that. Anyways your farm is beautiful bro and its badass what you're doing with the rare species

    Next time you're in Costa Rica, you should check out our farm, south Pacific side between Dominical and San Isidro del general. We now have about 220 species, and had the first Dabai to fruit in CR last year. We have seven pure species plus 3 hybrid species of Durian. The first kutejense and graveolens to fruit in CR are on the trees. We have some far out things like thornless Salak (snake fruit) and some nice hybrids growing well... I am working on tropical grapes also, testing some very promising varieties. jesseblenn at Gmail.

Ive also got a couple Mango and Jackfruit.. so ill probably lose these. I just lost my Randia Formosa (Im looking for these) This guy gets into the 20's? and is growing garcinia?! Will Eugenia grow in Texas? if this guy gets 20s?! Does anyone like the Eugenia? I heard they just dont make enough meat. Ive not been able to grow sapote or sapodilla.. looking for those. I do have.. my FIRST Curculigo Latifolia.. look that one up. Another Flavor Enhancer like MIracle Berry. Anyone know where i can make trade? or anyone will to send some seed?

Which you know I don't mind so much, for the rarity. But it's the odds that aren't worth it. The yoco came smelling like fecals. And only 1 curculigo latifolia came in. I haven't gotten much replies about dulcificum sysnapalum, or akee, or finger limes which is weird because there's a lot of talk about them there.

    Thank you for your most interesting informative video Pete and Adam. I was intrigued to see if Adam was Australian with his name. We have Flying foxes in Australia, they eat fruit and other plant matter, and occasionally consume insects as well. They locate resources with their keen sense of smell. Most, but not all, are nocturnal. They navigate with keen eyesight, as they cannot echolocate. They have long life spans and low reproductive outputs, with females of most species producing only one offspring per year. Their slow life history makes their populations vulnerable to threats such as overhunting, culling, and natural disasters. Six flying fox species have been made extinct in modern times by overhunting. Flying foxes are often persecuted for their real or perceived role in damaging crops. Yet they are ecologically beneficial by assisting in the regeneration of forests via seed dispersal. They benefit ecosystems and human interests by pollinating plants.

    What I love is that he does NOT look like the "type" to be in love with plants... Maybe its the hair, hat, and shirt... But its amazing how different everyone looks that truly love growing and harvesting... I have always loved gardening but have never had a teacher. I try to grow little abundant eatables that give lots of harvest all summer for my kiddos so they can pick and eat as they play outside. Like cherry tomatoes, yellow pair tomatoes, carrots, green onion, chives, sugar snap pees (which are my fav), peppers... Oh and I have a 3 year old passion fruit plant that has been flowering for 2 years now but has not fruited. I have to research on it, Its a beautiful purple flower though.

    Pete, love your videos. Bought my home in Florida in 2017 and am putting in edibles now, but struggling with Athracnose. Seems to be every where in this state. My mangos, anonas, avocados, figs, Longan have it to some degree, not to mention the okra, squash, tomatoes. Do you have videos or suggestions on long term control?

    Great video! I really respect how he acknowledges all the people who helped him out and where his plants came from👍 also has he shipped fruit to Emmy on emmymadeinjapan for her fruity fruits series? I feel like I've heard of flying fox farms before... if not and I'm wrong, that would be a stellar collab!

      For the scale Adams on that wouldn’t be very affordable. Just going from overhead irrigation to drip could also fix the problem too.

    I am impressed by what you are showing us. I have 50 hektar land in the dominican republik and 5 hektar(50 000sqm )
    I would like to have a fruitforest activated in there. installed like a park for the resident in the neigborhood.
    It would be great if someone would love to give me some advise.

      Hey Arthur! Sounds like a nice chunk of land. I would suggest taking a PDC, agroforestry and syntropic farming course to start. We offer consultation and design if you need help. Also some of my other videos in CR have some great info. GreenDreamsfl@yahoo.com

    Adam, you must be close to my old place on S. Cameron, across the grove from the end of the runway. The old Fish House, if you know the history, now gone, thanks to airport authority. I'm about 40 mins away in Mims/Scottsmoor; I see a visit in my future!
