  • (Part 1 of 2) The #1 Place To Visit If You Want To Grow Food In Warm Climates!
This latest video tour has been a goal of ours for quite some time. We bring you along to ECHO Global Farm in Fort Myers, FL, one of the first places to break open our passion for permaculture, tropical fruit production & perennial food crops! We found it nearly impossible to pack so much useful information into just one video, so we made it into a 2-part!
Here's Your Link to Part 2 - • Top Field Trip Destina...
Where’s the best place to visit when you want to learn about sustainable agriculture? Every top-tier speaker, author or teacher would agree that ECHO has been a catalyst for so many essential parts of ecology-minded tropical & subtropical agriculture.
When Stacy Swartz isn’t giving lucky folks like us top-notch tours at ECHO, she's usually handling the notorious research & publications department. We strongly suggest you take a field trip to ECHO if you get the chance! It’s always quite a different experience when you see things in person! There are countless ways to support them through their bookstore (online & onsite), nursery, classes, courses & public tours. You can also simply donate if you would like. To learn more about the full range of ECHO’s outreach & multiple outreach programs that benefit so many - you can check out their website - www.echonet.org

I saw the picture and immediate recognized it was ECHO. I'd never been to there or even Florida but absolutely understand their impact to many subsistence farmers and gardeners throughout the Global South.
They were kind enough to send me Tarwi almost a decade ago which grew well in the cool subtropical climate of San Francisco.

50 years in Florida... now I'm between our NC farm and our family farms in Guangxi, China... an autonomous region located north of Vietnam.
Nanning is called the "Green City" , the size of NYC; as it's a tier 2 city or medium size city for China. It's our capital city and the gateway of SE Asia.
Guangxi should be on every bucket list as a must visit!
Don't be surprised when you visit, you'll want to stay like I did in 2004!

I appreciate all of these videos on how to grow veggies in FL. I'm still looking for a way to grow tomatoes in FL. Apparently it really is a hit & miss project here. In MO I've raised 12 tomato plants and harvested as many as 300 (roma) from one plant. The difference in climate/soil is unreal. The peppers are easy to grow here. I've so much to learn about this climate. I'm watching different videos on how to grow veggies here and everything is different. Since I've moved here I would starve without a store. Thankfully, videos such as this are helping me adjust to this very different climate. Thank you Pete Kanaris!

I’ve been trying to get the timing right on our property for three years. This year I am not wasting time or space waiting for the weather to change. Just plant. I’m sowing seeds every few weeks of everything if there’s open space. We were lucky enough to get a mulberry tree from a friend, and turned that one tree into 16 trees. By last summer they were quite large And cast a canopy over the annual veggie beds and we did a lot better through the summer. I expect this summer to be more abundant than ever. Try to get a canopy established for late afternoon sun. Best of growing to you!!

I never knew ackee became toxic if left too long in the pod after opening, they turn darker yellow and the pod wilts then the edible part gets softer and sort of melts eventually. Fresh, open ackee, scalded then sautéed with coconut oil, onion, garlic, tomato, thyme, a pinch of salt and black pepper and eaten with roast breadfruit is my favorite meal. Beautiful property, thanks Pete and Ms.Swartz.

This is amazing! Exactly what I would do if I had that land! Im doing a mini version in my yard. Im setting up to use rabbit manure to feed fish. I plan to also build an area around the pond to raise ducks. I plan to also plant rice to! I saw in China they use ducks to weed between the rice in rice fields.

Fantastic tour! We received seeds from ECHO while helping in Ecuador - a lot of the trees are still growing in the community today. It’s a wonderful organization. We love stopping by their bookstore and nursery on our way home from Pine Island. So, any plans to go to Hawaii to film at some places? Would love to see Gabe’s banana breeding operation and Oscar’s food forest - especially the Inga collection. Or maybe a tour of Jim West’s place in Ecuador

Thank you! They’re really do amazing work. Definitely have Jim West in my sights and a possible client in Hawaii. I’m thinking a possible Ecuador trip in February. I just confirmed a Brazil trip this November to visit Ernst Gotsch, I’m super excited about that one.

What a lovely farm. And it's great to see that they have begun experimenting on rice production. In the Philippines, I hail from a region north of Manila w/c is called the rice granary region of the Philippines. The vivid bright green colour of the rice paddies is very soothing to the eyes. As an aside, my big sister used to own a small tilapia farm in which ducks are free to roam around to help fertilise the pond. It's a pity that I didn't get to travel much to these wonderful farms every time I visited my niece who used to live in Fl. Anyway, as always thanks for yet another excellent video!

Thank you, thank you, I love Echo, so glad I found them, such a wonderful learning center, most of my trees have come from there, a little over an hour drive from me, but soooo worth it, I'll be going back soon, as I'm helping my daughter in Jacksonville eliminate her grass....plant more forests...AND food...!!!

I Love Echo Global Farm and thanks Pete for showing this and producing this content! We still have several trees like moringa and katuk we bought from the nursery and I'm enjoying the cranberry Habiscus plants I grew from seeds I bought at Echo too! Could go on about that place and so appreciate your work and it's an inspiration for us in these northern climates!

That little house you saw their they showed you see a lot of that in Colombia they have fincas like that you can actually rent them out in the two people do that.... the Costa Rica they have in this world they have Gardens just like this but I promote this idea I live it it's a dream of mine to do exactly what they have there you can do this in any climate I don't care where you live you can make it to adapt the kind of food that you need in that region..... there's a little farm in Utah that's doing just that just outside of Salt Lake City
