Very cool! I’m actually missing my scat pack a bit. I got a new Hellcat and I can’t get it to grip like I did the Scat. Perhaps drag radials will do the trick.
Ezio Comparini I would definitely get drag radials. Every couple months, I get a wild hair, and start looking for B5 Hellcats, but I wouldn’t be able to afford one for another year or so. I’ll see if I still want a ‘Cat after I throw a 100 shot of NOS at it in spring. :)
Ezio Comparini get some bravada or demon replica 18s and put nitto nt05r or Mickey Thomson tires for the track or for when you want to grip and you will be happy
That’s not bad at all for a stock 392 on a tire. The intake doesn’t do much for these cars until you get into larger MAF housings and therefore need a tune for MAF scaling purposes. Factory intake is quite good on these cars, so I’d call your car stock with a tire all day long. You did have good air also, but Your average 392 owner around my area is an intake/cat back car and goes mid 12’s with their current owners and we never see above a 300ft DA. I’ve put a header/tune/slicks 2020 into the 11.20s on a cool spring night @ 210 DA, so these things will make power.
DA is everything when you’re trying to get “a number”. With the good Da we get in spring and fall, I think I can sneak into the 10’s with minimal mods, and cost involved. The CAI was free, so that’s why I put it on. And it’s only listed to prove nothing drastic was done to car to get 11.99. They don’t add or subtract power. But you still see guys in Scat groups ask EVERY GOT DAMN DAY, “what’s the best CAI I can get?”. Lol. 🤦🏻♂️
john K yes. The smaller diameter wheel and tire, the better, because you get more sidewall, and more sidewall allows more traction bite. So best ones are 17”, or 18”. Some guys are doing 15”, but then you have to do a brake conversion because 15” won’t fit around factory brakes and calipers. The difference between 17”s and 18”s are slim, so it’s a preference thing or price thing.
Yes. The tires were balanced. After a few hard launches, the tires spun on the wheels. Maybe a 3/4” or so over two years. Not sure how much that affected balance, but I never noticed anything driving on them on the highways.
@@superroop Hi Ed - sorry one more question. On my street launches, I am having trouble doing a 2nd gear burnout with the Mickeys. The rears do not spin and they want to push thru the brakes. This is TC off but did not water them down. I assume they just had enough heat in them to grab the surface and not spin? Clocked a 3.7 0-60. Thanks for any input!
@@ethanpantondrums3120 if you’re at a dead stop, hold your TC button for five seconds. It goes from TC sport which is sorta off but not completely, to completely off. That will help without being in a water box. Then after you heat tires. Toggle TC back on, then again to sport. Should take off like a striped ass ape! Let me know if that helps!
Not in this video. This was NA and without passenger and back seats. Since it didn’t do much over my best pass of 12.05 full weight NA, I don’t mess around with ditching weight. I might ditch passenger seat in the fall when I chase a 10 second time slip again.
Which GoPro you using ? I never had problems with my hero 5, which is what was used for this video, but my new Hero 7 doesn’t seem to sync the telemetry data correctly. Seems mistimed
If the track isn’t decently prepped, forget about it. I’ve had my best success with using traction in sport mode. So it’s not all off, but it’s not all on. If that makes sense. If you hold traction control button (while not moving) for over five seconds it turns it completely off. But you want sport mode.
@@rpmautoreviews9249 on street tires, I used “techy” stuff like traction control, and had a best of 12.28 or so. But with sticky tires, you can mess with traction control. I have yet to run a track that was prepped so well, that I could launch hard with it all the way off
@@rpmautoreviews9249 that other techy stuff is launch control. I’ve used that a few times and I eother suck, or the technology sucks. Have you ever run any C5 z06's on the street? I recently had a random run against a challenger scat pack in my 04 with just a catback and was able to walk him down through 2nd and 3rd before shutting down. I never really knew about these cars until I raced one and I'm pretty impressed with their performance. Nice run here as well.
I’ve never had a race with a vette on the street. Always Mustang guys, and any guy in a jacked up 4x4 truck. Not sure what they’re thinking. Lol. But I’ve also had two Volkswagen GTI’s give me a handful. Both probably would have beaten me in a 1/4, but I got the better dig on each and let off when I felt I was going to fast for 45 mph speed zone. Those little turbos get them go karts moving though.
@@HardwiredZ06 I’ve never lost to one. Haven’t raced a 10 speed one yet, that I’m aware of. Most are usually manual trans and they lose on the shifts. The ones I get at the track are REALLY slow. Lol.
It's a close race between a scat pack and a C5Z, except the scat pack is new and made for drag- the Corvette is 20 years old and made for road course. The drag race is pretty much dead even, and then the REAL ability of the C5 Z comes out on the road course.
dasledhed I’ve never used that at the track. It’s such a clusterfu** to get into it, that I’d be worried about tripping the staging lights while setting up. I used it on the street, and it worked well, but the process of stomping both pedals at same time, isn’t something I want to do at the track.
I get in these “debates” all the time. Define stock. The list of “modifications” are in the description. Stock motor and transmission, and stock tunes for both.
I think mine has a lot more in it, stock. I had a high mph pass of 116 mph, which should have been around 11.5 or 11.6. DA was decent, but could have been better. Nitrous Express Proton kit is going on mid to late summer. Gonna miss the good racing weather because of stupid corona virus shutting everything down.
11s is no joke!
That low-end torque on the scat packs is very impressive. Makes all the difference in these 1/4 runs.
8 speed transmission sure helps, too. ☺️
