Jose Vega auto is "almost always" faster in a straight line on power. the main reason is a torque converter. it multiplies torque of an engine at the same load. basically your engine bogs less by staying in max torque longer. so an auto can pull longer gears (shift less and faster) and keep you in the max power longer. only down fall is you not putting max power to the wheel (high HP just make wheel spin anyways), but in auto, you're putting more power over time to wheel under acceleration. keep in mind this is "almost always" ture not always.

Most modern cars are taking the automatic route. Especially high end sport and super cars. As modern cars performance baseline grows higher and higher most of these style of huge power Straight liners will probobly phase out the manual. Leaving really only focus st, miatas, and cars made for fun and handling to still have traditional gearboxes
I have literally never clicked on a video with the word “manual” in it and have not seen the top comment being someone making an anti theft joke and thinking they’re original.
As a car young enthusiast that own both type of transmission, I must say I love driving the manual , makes me learn a lot more about driving , precision and all. But when all is said and done I’d rather race on the automatic cos yes I have more time to think ahead than shifting . I love them both though : Manila for learning my precision, and auto to make practicals super easy 👍🏼
5:50 as a manual transmission driver i understand that feeling driving automatic, lol im like, what the.... This is so cool! im like driving a bump car.
Manual still gives you more control, you just have to know how to control it AND have a rock-solid shifting system. You may not notice it in a straight line, but when you catch some oversteer you're gonna wish you had a clutch. 👍
+Juan Beltran I bet your as white as paper saying nigga also it does kinda work that way if you redline for a few seconds or shift at lower rpm you won't go as fast you have to time your shifts and know how to Launch and not spin your wheels to much whish ik in a hell cat is hard to do but you need to only spin a lil bit spinnin ain't winnin
Sure the auto is faster in a straight line, duh! Now put both those cars on a road course where both drivers know the course equally well. You will quickly see exactly where the manual shines with the driver having the ability to select a gear FAR earlier in anticipation of any upcoming corner/maneuvers instead of slushing around until you get on the throttle enough for it to drop a gear. (yes, there are a FEW exceptions) Even using the paddle shifters on a 'fake dual clutch' slushbox can have wide variation in the time it takes from hitting the paddle or slapping the shifter before it tries to shift. Of course this really depends on how much (or how little) you have your foot into the skinny pedal. For the average consumer there is no way to set up an auto to behave and hold the gear you want for the specific amount of time you NEED to stay in a gear to drive at the mechanical limits of the vehicle. Now the Tesla stuff is cool and Ill bet the one pedal driving mode could be pretty precise... I haven't really spent any real quality time with one though, so maybe it sucks on curvy mountain roads?? That's one car I never got to race over my favorite mountain pass in my 5-spd honda accord as I got rid of it before tesla was a thing.
A manual gives you the feeling of full control. There's nothing like downshifting into a corner without using the brakes and coming out the other end perfectly. My current CRV is the only automatic I've ever bought. I want to find a 5-speed project car.
Thanks again Roman and Andre +The Fast Lane Car it was a blast. Main take away for me elevation costs the hellcat 1 second the manual transmission another .25 seconds, based on some altitude data (altitude factor .9276) Romans car is running per manufacturers specs. As for the M6 there is not a solid reference points but best I have seen is 11.8 which would be 12.8 at altitude. This being my first drag race on a track with a time of 12.4 I have room to improve and an excuse to get some slicks and get back down to Bandimere, until then look for me in the fast lane.
+Jesse Bailey you bet Jesse. Too bad so many people have no clue what racing at a mile above sea level does to drag times. It would be funny if it was not so sad that so many car guys and gals have don't understand the role of oxygen and air pressure in the combustion process.
The Fast Lane Car, you guys will always have people out there spewing bs who have no idea what DA is, and know nothing about the challenges of launching a heavy car on street tires. Everyone runs 9's when they're running their mouth. And as far as slow manuals go, just add more hp! Works for me 👍
Even manual hellcat is more lighter than automatic hellcat because of it transmission, Automatic hellcat more faster because it's get 8 speed transmission. So it's can have more close gear ratio than a manual hellcat . That is why many manufacturer choose auto trans. Can create to 8-10 speed transmission. More gear = more close gear ratio = higher acceleration. Sorry more my bad english, atleast everyone can understand what I'm trying to say :P For the sake of spirited driving , I still prefer manual hehehe
Syahwazz Waz they both have the same top speed and acceleration, but the automatic shifts faster that’s why it’s better, the 7th and 8th gears are just overdrives
@@Andrei-eb2du the 5th and 6th gears in a 6 speed are still considered overdrive gears, the same as you'd consider 7th and 8th overdrive gears in the Auto. In most manual transmissons, 4th gear is a 1:1 gear ratio. This ratio varies more in automatics depending on manufacturer and total gears. Regardless, the auto is not faster due to faster changes alone. If this were the case, a manual would not be a full second slower... maybe a few tenths of a second with a good manual driver. Its the addition of 2 extra gears that gives a slightly better edge by improving shift points, maximizing the power band and then the fact of obvious faster shifting solidifies an auto over manual win. Nothing is worse than having to shift gears 50 yards from the finish due to gearing in a manual. Overall though, I much prefer a manual sports car when mucking about the town and having a overall good motoring experience.
try downshifting from 5th to 2nd on a hair pin in an auto and youll see the diff. semi autos are the fastest obv, but standard with a clutch with left foot breaking is an art form
Manual nowadays is more for cinematic feeling, kind of like turbo lag for the tension building up. Some like it, some do not. Although there is a difference in skill, as the older man said. Automatic racing another Automatic is equally luck and skill rather stick racing stick is more skill than luck. (Assuming cars are of the same base and mod)
*Both cars have negatives & positives* : 1- Automatic is safer & more consistent & smoth power delivery 2- Manual the powerband is all over the place causing less stability especially when shifting gears . 3- Manual is more reliable , if you are getting an used car out of warranty a new Automatic gearbox can cost you from 2.5k to 6k to repair 99% of Mechanics wont bother opening Automatic gearboxes even if is just a simple sensor problem , they will say "you need a new Auto gearbox $$$$$$$ "
97% of manual drivers will either bog the launch or fry the tyres. 2% of racers know how to launch fast using clutch slip after lots of practice . Only 1% can launch fast and have their clutch last more than 50,000 miles. In summary stick to an auto if you want to drag race.
A 6 speed auto Vs 6 speed manual would be more fair. It figures that with 2 extra gears the auto can make better used of the engine's power band, even if both drivers were able to launch identically. A rolling race would have been interesting as that would have eliminated launch technique and traction issues.
"What a mistake" Not,I'd take my manual Hellcat any day over the automatic. I test drove both, much more fun with a car you have to drive!Maybe different if I had to try and make money at the track, but my cat spends most of its life out cruising and making Mustangs and Camaros look silly in town!:-)
Manuals are harder to drag race. Im eager to get better with my new manual but I think that automatics will always have the edge. Its man vs a well calibrated machine. The auto's will basically have a near perfect run every time by just pushing the gas pedal and holding the wheel.
Automatic transmissions have come along long way!!! Look at big trucks, years ago they were mainly a manual case they couldn't build an auto strong enough but the new engineering and technology you just can't beat the new autos!!! Quick shifting, strong!!!
Kids in this comment section are like "yeah manuals transmissions are way faster, my razer scooter has one" or "my dad has this car so i know much more abput it then you do" lol

They both had a 2.8 60ft. Which is terrible. It's so much harder to launch the manual. If either of them could have gotten a better launch, their ETs would have been better.
5764 feet above sea level, worn street tires, less than ideal track conditions and two drivers that are trying not to break their cars. 13.6 is probably about right.
Matt McAvay manuals are more fun, manuals give me more control, and no one can text and drive in my manual car. I'm home there's lots of things a manual does better and lots of things an auto does better
Come on down to colorado your Hemi or scat pack doesn't have what it takes. 5.7 would be close to 15 seconds in colorado at almost 6000 feet of elevations.
On an automatic car you can fall asleep,lollll... Manual cars are simply more fun to drive and gives you a real driver experience... The responsive sensation of the car that's completely on your will is my personal feeling while stepping on the gas... :)

The auto guy just stood on it and gave no input at all (I bet he had no idea where peak torque was) and almost 14 sec for any hellcat... really? Nice guys having fun but proved nothing. (I still would bet on the auto though lol)
Dude is driving a Hellcat and ran a 13.6.... I run a 13.8 in my stock motor '13 R/T this guy can't drive to save his life.
Its kinda sad really. Even a manual hellcat should run 11s with the 6 speed....stock... The auto....low 11s. Hellcat with drag radials ru. High 10s...
xXBirdsmurfXx dude sucks , he needs to go back to automatic
You do realize that any boosted vehicle loses power at higher elevations right? They'd hit 11s at or around sea level.
@@halwayshanzo2307 any air breathing vehicle loses power at higher elevation. Boost is the mechanism for overcoming that. Fighters in WWII had a massive altitude advantage if they were supercharged.
@@sunnyd4204 bro, your words had no logic.
The automatic is faster, but I’ll still go for the manual. Makes a great anti-theft device.
Robert B. Where do you live east LA? México?
Lol dude what are the chances though? Anyone can learn to drive stick in a day or 2 depending how fast they pick it up. In the uk, all dem fuckn people drive manual soooooo....
Yeah tell that to people in third world countries....
Not in the UK or Mainland Europe.
Car theft rings will just use a wrecker and snatch your car as easy as a Repo man dude.
You can't out shift an automatic
Incensed Shark59 On a strip maybe not, take it a to track, different story.
Jacob Wolfe still
Guess why race drivers on track control the gears themselves and not let the car decide what gear to use? Because it's faster to let a trained driver do it
Jacob Wolfe Exactly. Driving in a straight line isn't that impressive.
Luke M Murphy hell yeah turn left
I have driven manual sports cars for the last 14 years. Nothing can touch a new automatic. They have those transmissions dialed in. I am not bad at a manual but like Jose said, the automatics are rock solid consistent. My next car will be a DSG.
My dad has a DSG and it shifts so quick
ZippyTPinhead what is DSG?
GattaSplatta Man
Direct Shift Gearbox
RSGames I got a DSG, it shifts very fast but you still feel disconnected from the car experience. A auto is a auto no matter how nice u try to make it. Still boring in the long run.
GC 10 Well I wouldn't know, I've never driven a DSG
I think we all know that manual transmission require much more skill. I've had both automatic mustangs and manual but in my opinion manual transmission just feels more rewarding
Where do these people that drive manual transmission cars live that they have their car stolen on a regular basis?
Third world countries. Thieves steal to survive.
California
Chicago, detroit, camden, shreveport any black city
Marcel GT3 i’m pretty sure thieves in 3rd world countries kno how to drive stick too since nearly every other country outside the US drives manual regularly
Hahaha
I'll take the stick any day, more connected to the enjoyment, it never seemed to affect the results in my car as pictured. You gotta work to get the best out of a manual trans
I only droven manual
What about an auto with a manual valvebody?
Scared of toasters - or if you move to a city lol
go to philipines manila lets see if you can survive using manual i would choose auto cause in traffic its hell!
Manuals are more fun for cars under 500hp, when you start making big power and dialed in auto is the way to go.
The red cars back cup holder was down causing it to go faster, this is bs
Might not be able to out shift a automatic. . . But I'll damn sure try!!
Manual gives a real driving experience;)
Facts
Very true. I love both, auto for a daily in town, and manual for my rally car.
my dad doesnt like automatic bcoz its too boring for him thats why he picked manual because for him its more challenging
Agree!
sez who??
Auto for sure is faster, but their is something about a manual an auto will never replace.....
Z2357111319 control, that's all it gives you.
+dragonblade101 and it's a lot more fun and being able to review and stuff and burnouts
Most modern cars are taking the automatic route. Especially high end sport and super cars. As modern cars performance baseline grows higher and higher most of these style of huge power Straight liners will probobly phase out the manual. Leaving really only focus st, miatas, and cars made for fun and handling to still have traditional gearboxes
abyxis since most high end cars come from European brands where the majority drives manual so they while always have traditional gearboxes.
Autos never have to repair their clutches m
Automatics are better for getting road head😂

36090pburke whats the girl gonna sit on then?
HAHA yesssir lmao
If she can't shift for you while giving head, she's not the right one anyways.
@@militaryiam97 you still deserve best comment after all these years lmfao
I don’t care, I’m still gonna stick with an H pattern. They’re a lot funner to drive
More fun*
Then y r u here
I'm n it for the speed ,I thought that was the fun part
MAFIANA GOD MODE GAMING I’m not having this argument
Until you burn up a clutch !!!!!
5:50 And at that moment, a man became a boy.
Manual still gives you more control, you just have to know how to control it AND have a rock-solid shifting system. You may not notice it in a straight line, but when you catch some oversteer you're gonna wish you had a clutch. 👍
New autos are faster than manuals but those manual launches sucked
Ray Wilson you're right. The only thing I learned from this video was that neither driver could properly launch a manual transmission.
And that's why you don't see them using stick shift cars that much
+Cam Man it's because.neither of them can drive manual is 10 times faster if you shift propperly
Jack Gaming nigga it doesn't work that way 😂😂
+Juan Beltran I bet your as white as paper saying nigga also it does kinda work that way if you redline for a few seconds or shift at lower rpm you won't go as fast you have to time your shifts and know how to Launch and not spin your wheels to much whish ik in a hell cat is hard to do but you need to only spin a lil bit spinnin ain't winnin
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Looking for the 2nd race?
It's at 5:32
ema azura goat
Marco Pena no u
When u try to steal the top comment lol
Thanks brother
stop saying it's about the driver, they swapped drivers already.
Besides, an auto has more gears, easier to stay on the powerband.
I honestly don't care if it is a second slower I would still take the manual...
frdman it's not about if he is smart or not some people prefer manual
@frdman auto is for pussys who can't drive stick. It's a muscle car not a corolla.
Yankee 1985 Auto always rule
the sensation shifting gears liek toretto. that's what we looking for
cuase the more buttons and levers you have the more manly you feel huh?
What we learned is nobody can drive a manual hellcat properly
waterloo123100
Eh hm high elevation.
waterloo123100 Good good!😂
results wouldn't be different.
I.T. Intern yeah they would be when you learn to launch out of the hole like a real manual can
waterloo123100 nah, it would be the same results lol
Neither driver impressed me they left too soft and actually shifted like they were on the freeway hahaha come and run me in a stick I'll show you fast
I'm sure you 2007 manual can beat they're hellcat lmao
Sure the auto is faster in a straight line, duh! Now put both those cars on a road course where both drivers know the course equally well. You will quickly see exactly where the manual shines with the driver having the ability to select a gear FAR earlier in anticipation of any upcoming corner/maneuvers instead of slushing around until you get on the throttle enough for it to drop a gear. (yes, there are a FEW exceptions)
Even using the paddle shifters on a 'fake dual clutch' slushbox can have wide variation in the time it takes from hitting the paddle or slapping the shifter before it tries to shift.
Manual drivers triggered af rn lmao
- Can't drive manual
Enterprise Earth it's not too late, you can still learn.
Skoldpadda why don't you try it
Skoldpadda bro try using a manual on hillstart. It would take you 30 minutes to learn that
RISEUP Gamer There are many reasons why people prefer an automatic.
Works for me 👍
From running constant high 10s, low 11s, with my 6 speed. Were either of you trying?
"i have a secret weapon" "what is it?" "im almost out of gas" 🤣🤣
The auto is like 8 pounds heavier
Considering these cars have 707 hp, there 1/4 times are absolutely horrendous
At higher altitudes performance goes down, the drivers aren't bad.
Yeah because they have the aerodynamics of a brick 😂
try downshifting from 5th to 2nd on a hair pin in an auto and youll see the diff. semi autos are the fastest obv, but standard with a clutch with left foot breaking is an art form
My dream car is a viper
L1ghtn1ngStr1ke 1 Dodge Viper
Bro me too, I wanna t/a 2.0 or acr
Regardless of outcome the ZF8 is hands down the best auto transmission ever put in a car or truck. Geman engineering at it's finest!
"Don't tell Jesse this but I've got a secret weapon"
"What's that?"
"I'm almost out of gas"
What a savage!
*Both cars have negatives & positives* :
1- Automatic is safer & more consistent & smoth power delivery
2- Manual the powerband is all over the place causing less stability especially when shifting gears
.
Also, under harder circumstances, let's say snow or big hills, a skilled manual driver would actually be better than an automatic
I think I saw 3 vipers in this video and I'm jealous...
The Dodge viper is my favorite car
Same here. The blue ‘97 especially. Wanted that car ever since I was a kid. Might be able to get it in a few years!
Manuals impress high school girls, automatics win the races.
More like high school dudes
I’d like to see your race a manual in an automatic on any actual race track that isn’t a straight line.
Religion LOL how are all manuel drivers honda civic drivers?
People with little dicks buy autos.
atif im an m3 druver son
97% of manual drivers will either bog the launch or fry the tyres. 2% of racers know how to launch fast using clutch slip after lots of practice . Only 1% can launch fast and have their clutch last more than 50,000 miles. In summary stick to an auto if you want to drag race.
A 6 speed auto Vs 6 speed manual would be more fair. It figures that with 2 extra gears the auto can make better used of the engine's power band, even if both drivers were able to launch identically.
A rolling race would have been interesting as that would have eliminated launch technique and traction issues.
It's not about what's fair, it's about which one is faster.
@@ZemzyOserisimagine if someone put a 12 gear manual from a truck in a small road car 💀💀
How do they do on a track with corners left and right???
“I don’t have eco mode”
😑 yup. Because you’re car is a manual. You’re in charge of the efficiency, essentially.
Automatic transmissions have come along long way!!! Look at big trucks, years ago they were mainly a manual case they couldn't build an auto strong enough but the new engineering and technology you just can't beat the new autos!!! Quick shifting, strong!!!
So much hate...
So much envy... lol
Beau Binning I really don't think it's envy.
Muscle Everything I'm not jealous I've got my dream car, just saying they need to practice they're driver mod
I'll be a little slower for a stick, just because anyone who has driven a good sounding car with a stick knows what I mean.
Also, with practice you could bring those e/t down.
Muscle Everything well duh, how many of us will have the chance to comfortably own something like this in our lifetimes?
Racing manuals is a test of driver skills, racing automatics is a test of the engineer's skills.
Kids in this comment section are like "yeah manuals transmissions are way faster, my razer scooter has one" or "my dad has this car so i know much more abput it then you do" lol
Where the MEME SAUCE!?!?! Kkkkkkkkkkk yes like this

Same. I love my 2020 camaro
Likewise . I got modified exhaust. I raced other Hellcats before and I smoked em
I have 4 old rigs 3 started out as automatics, at considerable hassle to myself I changed all 3 to a stick shift and could really care a less about quarter mile times I just think 3 peddles are cooler then 2! 👍

13.6 in a 700hp car.....whats the deal!!
myusernames1967 elevation which means less power and no drag radials which means poor launch and traction so both making the car alower
hellcats will do mid 11's easy just crappy conditions. My stock scat pack did a 12.6 lol.
1guyin10 I ran a 13.6 in my old 5.7 hemi.
I just bought a challenger RT with a 6 speed manual, dont regret a thing!
I'll still get a manual
Logan Xiong good, theres only one thing a manual beats an auto with. Resale value
Matt McAvay Auto have higher resale value.
crazyflyboy30 which is it I'd like to know?

On an automatic car you can fall asleep,lollll... Manual cars are simply more fun to drive and gives you a real driver experience... The responsive sensation of the car that's completely on your will is my personal feeling while stepping on the gas... :)
You have to know how to drive to turn quick times with a manual. Give me the stick any day.
Randall Palmer it's still slow regardless.
I.T. intern and automatics are just boring. With a manual can feel your improvement when practicing while an automatic is just a car that does everything for you.
Janno_O rather have speed for this type of car. I'll take the manual in a track based car like gt350r or ats v.
After automatic technology surpassed manuals it shifts quicker. You simply can't shift as fast its not the 90s anymore....
You gotta be very skill with the stick shift to beat the automatic version of any car done this test many times my self
No

Granny shifting not double clutching like you should
Fast and furious
