    I'm just starting this install myself. It's great to see how it should be done. Selina and JP will be delighted with your instructions. Looking forward to part 2.

    You should shorten the pipe a little to ensure your diesel heater can never use all your fuel and leave you stranded. So shortening it by another 5cm will make sure you’ve always got enough to drive to a refuel. My heater (identical) uses about 0.5 litres/hour running flat out.

    • @CasLaz
      @CasLaz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      its 4cm from the bottom of the tank, that should leave enough to drive right? I guess shortening it more is a bit safer to have more range just in case

    Very nice vid! I have this installed and am currently up in a ski field in Spain, works great at keeping the van toasty in sub freezing temps and is really efficient on fuel. My only issue with it is the noise it produces but I think it’s the same for most heaters.

    • @CasLaz
      @CasLaz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome glad to hear you have up and running and its preforming well! The pump is really loud but as ours is under the van when the doors are closed we can't really hear it. The heater itself isn't too bad on lower fan speed, we are hoping once the heater itself is boxed in we won't hear it as much.

    You can use a solar cable entry box for seal the inlet power and diesel from the pump.

    Great build vids I’m converting a L4H2 Boxer installing victron kit with a roamer 460 and seriously considering a jp so lots of parallels in our builds. I feel really lucky to have you guys as a resource. Wondering if you can hear the pump from inside? Btw also liked your CAK tank vid. Cheers guys

      @@CasLaz We're actually just starting our second build - unfortunately our last got stolen shortly after completion. Found your channel recently as our second build is also a Relay/ Ducato chassis and there are SO many coincidences between our systems. I.E also using Roamer, also using JP heater.
      You're doing a fab job so far.
      Would love to have a chat with you about a couple of things. Looking for a place to send you an email now.

      @Connor Thomas Ah man im sorry to hear that, it would be really painful if ours got stolen after completion, so much work goes into it I'd be heartbroken!
      Good luck with the new conversion I hope it goes well, sounds like it's going to be a great build with JP + Roamer gear 😁

    Hey Laz! I'm doing exactly the same for my JP. Are you not concerned about the fuel line freezing being under the van? Diesel can freeze at 0C I might run it inside but woul prefer it outside.

    • @CasLaz
      @CasLaz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jason, I'm not that concerned but might be a good idea to insulate the pipe underneath. From my understanding there are different blends of diesel that fuel companies release and winter diesel shouldn't freeze until around -15c
      Also on a side note flowing liquid wont freeze until much lower temperatures so if its extreme cold keeping the heater constantly running is a good way to make sure it wont freeze up I guess.

    • @Jason-pg6tz
      @Jason-pg6tz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CasLaz Thanks for the reply! Insulating with some pipe / foam insulation around the conduit might be a good shout. I'm on the fence, I'd like it on the outside so I don't hear the pump and for neatness but yeah would hate to find myself in a situation where it's all frozen up... Food for thought - thanks for the reply

    • @CasLaz
      @CasLaz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think its unlikely it'll freeze up as when its that cold we'll have the heater always running.
      When it gets that cold I'd be more worried about water tanks / pipes freezing up to be honest 😅

    • @Jason-pg6tz
      @Jason-pg6tz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CasLaz yeah that's fair enough - I think for us there could be times it's sat not flowing so I might need to insulate it or put it on the inside

      Just a quick follow up question, what size 12V cable did you run? I'm seeing here its up to 5A when on 12V ?

  • @robfodder5575

    Is it just a copy of the Truma because the plastic mouldings look exactly the same? Bang out of order by the manufacture but cant blame you if its half price! Hopefully they've also copied everything that makes the Truma meet EU/UK safety standards especially given its burning diesel inside the van.

    • @CasLaz
      @CasLaz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rob,
      Yeah the unit seems pretty much identical to the Truma D6E looks and functionality wise, if the Truma was fairly priced around £1500 same as the gas (4e) version we would have gone with that, even tough that's still very expensive.
      It's CE certified and people been using this heater for years in different countries without issues, recently it started picking up popularity in the UK too.
      We'll indeed install carbon monoxide alarm and keep a fire extinguisher ready just incase 😂(we'd do that with a truma too anyway)
      Thanks for watching!

    • @robfodder5575
      @robfodder5575 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CasLaz Cant see enough info on the CE certificate to see if its valid, its the size of the postage stamp lol Sometimes china manufactures use what's called a China Equipment mark which looks like a CE mark ;-) The EC test is the correct number for consumer goods but automotive is more complex. That said, there's been other guinea pigs and you've got a detector :-)

      @@CasLaz it's worth noting that Truma have an operation in China. Supply chains are difficult to untangle these days.

    • @robfodder5575
      @robfodder5575 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IanMarvin Sure, most businesses do if they're manufacturing on scale, but that doesn't mean to say its OK for the IP to be ripped off. Unless the copy is licenced which this company repeatedly refuse to answer! I design technology and more than a few times a businesses have suffered because the IP has been ripped off. To be clear, what this means is that the company isn't as profitable and in a couple of cases made people redundant. On the flip side those businesses do not manufacture in China anymore. Just to reiterate; nothing against anyone buying these if they're on a budget but just as its good to buy fair trade produce and take into account the impact one has on the environment, if you can afford to do so, its also worth thinking about that UK/Euro/US manufacturing company taking a hit because someone in China decided it was OK to copy R&D which costs and can take significant time to payback! Its all fun and games until its you who is out of a job. Ultimately we in the west have become far to reliant on outsourcing manufacture.
