Vegetarian for 20 years started becoming ill, doubled down to raw vegan. After almost dying found carnivore and have regained my health. Worry a bit about the damage done by years of a plant based diet.

Vegetarian for 15 years, my body started to fall apart... and moved to keto due to breast cancer almost a year ago and saw health improvements so now I'm slowly moving into more carnivore/ ketovore and slowly feeling better, and more confident I can get back to optimal health.

Dr. Berry is so right about IODINE. Most of us are deficient in this mineral. Please don't ignore it. I started supplementing it since late February this year and finally my body temperature is higher and again my metabolism is staring to wake up. Not to mention my hair, eyebrows and eyelashes are growing again. Before I found out I am iodine deficient I lost 1/3 of my eyebrow and I had 50% of my eyelashes the rest was gone. I know I am on the right track. For those who also struggle with enemia you need to supplement Iron and Iodine at least 3 hours apart. I take iron with acerola then after 3 hours take iodine with selenium. For those who are carnivour and can't lose weight it can be due to iodine deficiency. T3 is responsible for our metabolism so if you have low thyroid (you have hypothirosim) it will be impossbile to lose weigth. I watched many hours of vidoes on youtube with content pertanining to this so I have a minimal knowledge and I was able to troubleshoot my problem. I was puzzled for a while 🙂
IODINE is crucial so don't brush it off. I forgot to mention that I had sever leg/feet cramps at night so I was supplementing megnesium and potassium and ate salt to taste with my meat yet my cramps didn't completly go away until after 2 months supplementing IODINE. Yes , lack of iodine in our diet will also cause cramps.
    cheers

@beastbombshell3589 eating too little with hypothyroidism can prevent weight loss. Losing weight with hypothyroidism can be complicated unless the hypothyroidism has been adequately and appropriately treated and quite often this is not the case. Current treatment guidelines mean treatment is merely for keeping people alive and not improving quality of life.

People who say meat is inflammatory, think again. I have neuropathy in my feet. Since going Ketavore my neuropathy is 80% gone!! I made a mistake and ate a piece of cheesecake one night, HUGE mistake! Next morning my feet hit the floor and all I felt was pins and needles most of day every step I took that day. NEVER AGAIN! I've lost 35 pounds so far, only 2 points to go and I will no longer be pre diabetic, and my triglycerides are down 90 points! I still have a way to go but Holy what a start! If meat was inflamatory, that would mean, that all animals eating animals would suffer inflamation all their lives.
      On the other hand...
Our meat we buy is not the same as wild caught meat from animals roam free until they are killed for food!
Our farm animals are inorisoned, living in prisons, eating only what the owners feed them, using antibiotics, growthhormones vaccines, meds. Not much free range and enclosed in their own faeces, eating even their own species. There is so much ingormation right there, to long here to describe all.
I think, we people ate all kind of foods in the wild as nomads!
But now, we are 'industrialized' with all consequenses.
Meat is not the problem in nature, but the 'modern world' it is.
I hope you find the right nutrition working for you and avoid meds, vaccinations, antibiotics and other non healthy foods.

Fantastic interview that perfectly consolidates almost all of the medical insights I’ve gained and directly experienced after a year of being a full carnivore. I’ve strictly followed pure paleo common sense and the studious scientific insights of REAL medical professionals like Dr. Berry, Dr. Paul Mason, Robert Lustig, Siegfried’s cancer research, and a whole host of other board certified medically trained professionals, along with qualified nutritionist like yourself, Judy. I must say that you are my favorite nutritionist in TH-cam. Because you are mindful, professional, well spoken, and not “myopic” with the scientific findings that you share. You have the balance I seek in anyone providing data, experience, and research on these matters.
After a year of clean eating, mental clarity, consistent energy, strong health and vitality, I’m a living example of how life changing one’s life can be when you eliminate oxalate and plant toxins and actually enjoy eating what Dr. Berry calls, “the Proper Human Diet.”
I’ve also subscribed to, tried-out, and entertained the recommendations by the likes of (psychologist doctor) Paul Saladino and the “putting clothes on your sugars and carbs” approach that Glucose Goddess has made popular among those who don’t want to budge from their addiction to the indoctrinated modern food culture. But my anatomy rejected that fructose and veg approach, which immediately brought back inflammation, brain fog, and other issues I’ve experienced my whole life in the past. I have no issues now rejecting and/or politely turning down offers to eat that old poison diet at gatherings and whatnot.
I follow the undeniable, Paleo historical facts and science. THAT is what dictates what I put into body as to what is the most optimal, fat and ketone-rich foods that the human body requires. As long as I don’t stray from that, my health, microbiome, consistent energy levels, and sense of well-being stays in perfect alignment.
Thanks for all you do, Judy.
Listen to your body, people! It’s crying out for your help to feed it the right food!!

    Love Dr Berry, love Judy.
I have, over the last 50 years, been reading on the subject of ancestral diet and using evolutionary principles as a measure of how far we have deviated since the Neolithic transition.
But in the carnivore world, I think there is a risk of throwing the baby out with the bath-water.
There are some critical questions/issues which need to be addressed:
Firstly, the stable isotope analysis certainly shows a preponderance of animal food sources. It also shows that there was a non-negligible proportion (say around 20%} or plant material. Dental plaque analysis shows evidence in some paleolithic sites, of mushrooms being a significant source of nourishment. Other evidence shows extensive seasonal consumption of acorn product.
So, the question is, to what extent did Paleolithic diet include small amount of plant matter, which may have had a disproportionate metabolic effect, necessary to make the animal sourced food operate effectively.
Secondly (and there may be a simple answer) - did the stable isotope analysis tell us what food sources feed both the body and the microbiome?
Thirdly, the animal products consumed, particularly the ruminants, were presumably feeding on a vastly different diet, much richer in phyto nutrients, and polyphenols. Does modern meat provide the same plant based nutrients?
Fourthly, did our Paleolithic ancestors have so many other lifestyle differences that made a largely meat based diet healthy, in ways which are not replicated today - going to bed with the sun, different exercise patters, different breathing patterns, acute v chronic stress.Dissolved magnesium is absent from our water, and fluoride is present.
Fifthly our Paleolithic ancestors ate seasonally. Some foods came at great cost - such as honey. There is no doubt that honey was consumed ancestrally - very occasionally This can dramatically alter the health impact.
Sixthly, evolutionary principles are complex. Simple Darwinian survival may tell us that a meat based diet is optimal for fitness and reproduction in adulthood. It does not inform on living into very old age. Secondarily, epigenetic principles further complicate the picture as epigenetic changes can be very fast and have multi-generational effects.
I raise these questions, not to undermine the importance of animal products as critical to proper human diet, but to bullet-proof a proper view of what ancestral diet was, and how that should inform modern performance.
And thank you for your informative offerings.

"Cells, tissues, and organs" aren't the only targets of fructose glycation. Fructose glycation can occur to LDL cholesterol, it will break down the LDL particle size from pattern A to pattern B, just as glucose from other carbohydrates. Individuals with pattern A are more likely to have normal blood levels of LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Pattern A is usually not associated with an increased likelihood of atherosclerosis. Persons with LDL cholesterol pattern B have increased small and dense LDL cholesterol particles. Glycation, and oxidation from seed oils, act to take cholesterol from pattern A to pattern B. As I understand it.

I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. After over a year and a half keto, and seven months mostly carnivore, I'm still dealing with bouts of twitches and leg cramps and crazy tiredness. I've experimented with modulating the fat between 66-80%, raising and lowering protein, and all the usual one-size-fits-all advice that people give. Constipation also comes and goes. I also have a generous amount of Redmond's salt, and take trace minerals (which often make it worse and make me pee alot). After waking up screaming a few nights ago with legs locked up, I decided that, screw it all, this is clearly not working, and I am meant to have more carbs. So I've been having some fruit and starches the last few days (no more than 100 total grams of carbs) and my energy and cramping have definitely improved. But today I could feel my joints and my gut in a quite unpleasant way. So I can have either high energy with no twitches and cramping but with painful digestion and inflammation on one hand, or I can have low energy with twitches and cramps, but smoother digestion and no inflammation on the other. Maybe I'll just alternate. Anyway, the dogma is definitely not working for me, but neither is the alternative.

Do you have a history of consuming large amounts of Vitamin A (either retinol or carotenoids), using pharmaceuticals containing retinoids (e.g. Accutane, isotretinoin), or consuming large amounts of oxalates? I've struggled with incessant twitching and cramping around my entire body for years after doing a strict carnivore diet, and I suspect it is related to a history of Vitamin A toxicity and/or oxalate toxicity. Eating carbs helps my situation a little but definitely does not stop the twitching and cramping. Another possibility that has some overlap with those toxicities is a problem with your cell membranes related to a deficiency in choline, phospholipids, and/or essential fatty acids.
Here's a list of things to look into:
      Electrolyte deficiency
      Choline deficiency
      Fatty Acid Deficiency
      Thiamine Deficiency
      Taurine Deficiency
Other nutrient deficiencies that prevent energy production
      Heavy Metal Toxicity
      Hypoxia
Also, you said you're "mostly carnivore". If you're still drinking coffee, that might be contributing. I've seen some videos of people saying their benign fasciculation syndrome (incessant muscle twitching) diminished or stopped entirely after dropping coffee/caffeine.

Have you tried supplementing magnesium? Try different types of magnesium to see what helps

    • @didjesbydan
      @didjesbydan ปีที่แล้ว

@@StraightMobbinAK No to the Vitamin A and pharmaceuticals. Oxalates, hard to say. I wouldn't know. A few months ago I had some blood work which revealed a slightly elevated homocysteine, which could be related. Since then I've been taking a B supplement with choline, NAC, and trimethylglycine. I've noticed coffee exacerbate the problem, but I've also seen it happen regardless. I went to one meal a day three or four months ago and didn't have any problems for a while. It seemed to help. But over the past month the excellent OMAD routine stopped working and I ground to a halt. Maybe I wasn't getting enough nutrition and it took a while to manifest. Now I'm thinking more about Donald Layman's advice to split up daily protein into multiple meals to activate muscle protein synthesis. I don't know what's what anymore.
But the single biggest suspect, I think, is poor absorption from poor digestion. I have a history of South American food poisoning incidents followed by IBS, and alternating periods of diarrhea and constipation. I definitely noticed with a recent round of this that the twitches and cramps seemed to come with it.
But now that I'm thinking about it some more, the first time I remember having crazy twitches was twelve years ago when I came off of a seven-year round of antidepressants and eight months of Aderol. Actually, that was when I learned that term you used: Bening Fasciculation Syndrome (though I disagee with calling it "benign").
Other than all that, I have a history of fatigue and depression ( which is really just the emotional manifestation of fatigue) as well as late-night bingeing on carb-heavy foods. Maybe my system is too damaged to handle ketosis very well, I don't know.
What's weird though, is that, even though I feel like I'm in an energy slump all week, as soon as the weekend comes I'll get on the hiking trail and have limitless energy once I start moving--to the point of passing everyone on the trail up the mountain. It always amazes me how it just seems to come out of nowhere, after struggling all week. It's like I need a threshold level of exercise to break through the fatigue. Unfortunately, the workweek--as strenuous as it is--does not give me the crazy aerobic push that I need to break through.
