    What a beautiful doctor 👩‍⚕️🥩 Awesome interview!! I had parents that fed us higher fat so we were lucky. I didn’t hit menopause until 57 and not one symptom. Not one hot flash, sleep great and I am losing weight. My thyroid, adrenals, Leptin are balanced. I’m meat (fat) based.😋

      How do you eat and for how long were you eating that way before menopause?

    My wife is a dyed in the wool WFPB eater. I'm worried about her health. She thinks I'm nuts for eating only meat. I'm hoping to accidentally expose her to some of your wisdom and healing someday. I wish more carnivore women would post videos debunking McDougalls', and Gregers' baloney. Shine on ladies.

      I bought into WFPB for years. Ultimately it wasn’t satiating and I was always so fatigued and would binge on ice cream or chocolate because all of my healthy home cookers plant based meals weren’t giving me the nourishment I needed. Energy is the biggest thing I love about eating meat.

      @nledelnr I am in the opposite position of you. Our family did plantbased in 2015 and lost a ton of weight and felt super healthy for about 4 years. Then we went back to the standard American diet and gained 2/3 of it back. now 54, I haven't been able to lose weight for almost two years and I went carnivore in April of this year. My husband is still hell bent on plantbased and how it's the healthiest diet on the planet. And I can't get him to even "look" at the info on carnivore. He told me yesterday he is concerned for my health from eating all this cancer causing meat and fat. He says..don't you remember the China Study..it was all about meat and dairy. Meanwhile he is in and out of plantbased and can't really stick to it. He is about 125lbs overweight. I feel great, not tired and way more energetic then I've felt in the last year! I haven't lost any weight but I'm trying not to be concerned with that and let my body heal although I have days where I get frustrated with that aspect. I do feel it's harder to convince or even have people consider something out of the box when they can't see physical results! Anyway...I hope you can convince your wife, it's wonderful to feel satisfied with our food!

    I lost my period at 47 after about a year eating a ketogenic diet and then higher protein ketovore. I knew it had to be a macro and fast weight loss (stress) issue based on your videos and other female carnivores. It took some months of playing around with my protein and fat. After 5 months, I got my period back when I lowered protein to 100 grams and upped fat to 70+% . Also, I eat as many calories as my body wants and my weight stays stable. I only care about macro percentages (high fat/moderate protein).

    • @victorycall

      I'm glad to hear you referring to 100 grams as "moderate" protein. I'm an age 50 woman, 130 pounds. The US federal government guidelines would like me to eat 46 grams of protein per day. I aim for 100 grams. The guidelines would consider 100 grams to be "high" protein but it isn't particularly high. It's adequate / moderate.

    This all makes so much sense. I did carnivore for about a year and ended up demonizing it because I had gained fat, my breath was bad and I had no energy and constipation. Looking back I barely ate fat, I was only eating meat on its own, which is fairly lean here. I now eat 1 stick of butter a day which I top my meals with and loooooads of different animal foods, not just meat. ANd oh man, THIS was what I needed.

    • @sylviaking8866
      @sylviaking8866 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not adding enough fat and eating too much protein causes rabbit starvation (protein toxicity) Also on very low carb diets you need to add a ton of Salt and potassium along with water which will alleviate constipation. Carnivore should be done using ketogenic principles. That is 65 to 80% of your daily calories should come from fat.

    A few years ago I tried some carbs before bed because I felt desperate to get a good night´s sleep. I tried raw honey, and that did not work (I gave the honey away), then I tried some oatmeal, fruit, etc. Nothing worked. I was actually ticked off at all the people who suggested I try some carbs for sleep. Fat does work, though and I´m so grateful to those who recommend high fat. #CarbAddictionIsReal

I am peri menopausal and have been keto over 6 1/2 years and carnivore for 4 months - no weight loss on carnivore , but I am going to keep pushing the fat and maybe even have a fatty snack at bedtime to see if I can sleep the whole night through. 1-3 am is when I tend to awaken and can't go back to sleep often for a couple of hours. As a menopausal woman on hrt and fasting, I have to say that these things have saved my life. It would be interesting to see what was the rate of osteoporosis and alzheimers in women 100 years ago before the processed foods and low fat teachings. I was low carb, very low grain for years before menopause and I was positive i was rapidly developing dementia. I was healthy going into menopause and it still was killing me. Hrt is a life saver.
    Fasting is also a lifesaver. Despite being low carb, my glucose was rising and I started gaining weight during early menopause. Maybe it was cortisol from menopause but fasting also causes cortisol rise and yet I feel fantastic now. The only thing about fasting is that it might expose mineral deficiencies. If u make sure u take iron and minerals and eat well on earing days, you won't have issues with hair loss. Losing weight causes temp hair loss anyway.
    It's nuanced. We all need to figure it out for ourselves.

    I had this issue and def had my macros off for hormonal wellness.
    I was getting around 200g of protein, and 200-230 grams of fat per day on a carnivore diet. Just meat, eggs, & salt. Some ppl blame the eggs for “vitamin a toxicity” but whenever I included fruit specifically fruit high in vitamin c things improved almost instantaneously. I went from tired, lethargic, anxious, and depressed to full of energy, laughing, social, w proper neurotransmitter functioning.
    I’m in the camp for now that cycling in and out of ketosis as a stressor may be optimal. Giving our bodies a sign of abundance is what it all comes down to so maybe I just didn’t get enough fat w my training. Although, since I do workout intensely I’m willing to bet I just need more vitamin c, carb assistance, and/or higher fat than the average person for endocrine system to operate properly. But, with men sbhg seems to be a huge issue and free t tanks while in full on ketosis constantly so I’m thinking around 100 grams of fruits + mostly meat is the way for me for now. May try ketovore later but not convinced it’s optimal and that it’s all just gluconeogenesis to blame w my old macros. I think I legit had a vitamin c deficiency. But, could just be false pattern recognition. Could of been reintroduction of carbs themselves or them assisting w my electrolyte balancing. Who knows. We’ll see in future experimentation. But, for now I’m just glad to back amongst the living. Morning wood has returned and that’s natures strongest indicator of the right path for me.

    • @nlgarton
      @nlgarton ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wouldn't that high amount of protein just convert to glucose if you eat beyond your body's ability to make use of the protein? Excess dietary protein is stored as sugar. That would certainly contribute to negative symptoms associated with high sugar intake.

I've lost. I just couldn't seem to make it work for me, but I don't want to give up. Binge watching Dr. Bright's videos for past 3 days and find this information super helpful. I am lactose intolerant and don't have a gallbladder. I can tolerant a small amount of dairy, but went off it for 3 weeks, started to add it back in and have been super sick. :( I went to store last night and bought beef fat and making ghee as well. I find fried beef fat sweet and satisfying, so great snack. I can't wait to see how this new way of eating goes. I 100% don't think I was eating enough animal fat.

    I've been carnivore for a month coming from 4 years on keto, and I do feel more well and energetic when I eat a LOT of animal fat, especially from beef (tallow, butter), and when I eat more frequent smaller meals. I do fast occasionally for religious reasons, and also for a few health reasons (lymphedema included), but it is not scheduled fasting per se. I will say, it is awfully nice to not need to eat if I am out and about and unable to get good carnivore food.

    Hi Judy! Right around 28:40 in your interview, Dr. Bright says she recommends Lugol's iodine because it "is not Potassium Iodide", however, I just looked on my bottle of J.CROW'S Lugol's Solution 2%, and the ingredients are: Potassium Iodide 4%, Iodine 2%. I am confused. Are there other Lugol's that don't have Potassium Iodide in them?

    oh thank you for this interview. After several weeks on standard carnivore, fatigue hit me, I had issues with interrupted sleep, and my thyroid antibodies which I had finally got down to zero, zoomed back to over 1000. Still trying to find the way in my journey with Hashimoto's, but I too assumed it was the zero carb, even tho I had come from keto and IF prior. I'm on month 5, and trying my best to find my personal carnivore for healing.

    Yes, because paleo is veggies along with Fruits, fats, proteins. Certain veggies block absorption for thyroid. Like broccoli, cauliflower. I was eating these plants daily. Wrecked my thyroid. I was always hypo but now it’s been a month off all medication from HRT except testosterone and progesterone which are going soon too🙏 I’ve been on these since 35 for migraines I’m 45 now started eating carnivore about two months ago. Also started my iodine which has helped thyroid! I’ve had tons of issues with anxiety, depression. I feel way better on this than eating all vegetables. I do eat an apple or banana but I’m slowly working away from that too. Im 5’10 and weight for me has never been an issue. So I’m trying to stay what I have 127. I don’t want to loose anymore. I lift weights 4 times a week. Very blessed to know good fats are wonderful I’ve noticed a huge difference all around❤🙏

    PSMF is a protocol of lean protein for no more than 1-3 days a week with the rest being high fat. Always carnivore, no dairy, no carbs, no coffee. Very effective, in general, because it is basically food restriction withiut fasting. I tried it for 2 days eating often around 20-30gms of protein like sardines, fresh salmon for 2 days. I was very happy to return to high fat. However, I definitely leaned down very fast and that was the point. It’s a tool.
    I’m female, 55, 1 year menopause l, no symptoms, a momentary hot flash here or there usually indoors in hot, stuffy environments plus any kind of stress.

    As usual a very good podcast. Judy ,you really know how to put the best questions and how to motivate your speakers to get the most out of them. I just want to add from my own experience that I have been ketogenic follower for the past 10 years and since June I turned carnivore.
    after listening to Dr Ken Berry, I started to take two drops of lugol solution 2%.Ironic ,just yesterday went to the doctor for my labs and my THS is not good .T 4 ,also
    I don't think that it is such a thing , one feets all. Everybody should really be very careful if they will, or will not take lugol solution.
    For me is the first time in 10 years to have my thyroid not functioning .
    This is just a thought based on my experience from yesterday.
    Ps. I do eat 2 to 1 fat to protein .
    Thank you ever for all your great podcasts .

But when I was ovulating, my calories went up 4x. My body craved more fat. Then after 4 days, my body craved carbs, so I went from 10-15g daily to 40g. My protein was 231g. Fat was 206g. And I was super thirsty. I need to buckle down for the rest of my cycle!
