I LOVE THEM ALL. BUT HER SOUND IS PART OF THAT PAST WERE LIFE WAS GOOD. I CAN PICTURE MOMENT WHEN THIS SONG PLAYED. THEY HOLD TIME LONG FOR I REMEMBER. LONG FOR
Yes, a tragic life but she overcame her addictions, died clean and sober, still had her animals, cats, and gave the world the amazing legacy of her voice and talent - a full life by any standards and one lived well at the end. Rest in peace, dear Dusty.
Awe so sorry for ur loss. I can't imagine ur heartache listening to this song. Sending u a hug and hope u find happiness in lovely memories u must have.💕
I bought this record in 1967. That year was the "worst" year of my life. Dusty pulled out every feeling and emotion that I had then. I just found Him after "44" yrs. I Hope Everyone Finds The One they Love. It's Amazing......RIP Dusty
The thing that amazes me is the quality, both vocal and instrumental, of this live performance. There's no technological "tweaking" of anything here. No wall of sound or distortion to cover any weakness. This is real...just as it happened. Amazing...especially in today's music world. This is Dusty, in her prime, earning her well-deserved accolades.
Every time I listen to Dusty, the hairs on my neck go up and I shiver, her artistry, phrasing and power has never been equalled let alone surpassed. Plus she shows here something that most modern singers could never dream of doing, been introducing the song and go straight into it without a note from the orchestra .
And you already show remarkable taste. Dusty Springfield is someone to savor. You might sample some Sarah Vaughan, her material from the fifties and sixties such as her live recording of the Beatles' "And I Love Him/Her." Good luck, young man or woman.
New Music Express fans in 1966 voted Dusty the best female singer on the planet. I concur. In 1967 at the height of her powers she visited Australia. I have no doubt in my own mind , that Burt Bacharack is her primary or original Soulmate. Frank as ever!!!!!!!
This is mum's favourite song..she is still with us, but has severe dementia and now currently in hospital with pneumonia!!! So I'm listening to this and thinking of her. Such a beautiful song ♥️ she was always into male vocalists. (Mainly Elvis) but when it came to female singers...dusty was the one! And thank god because that has now been passed down to me 😘😘😘
wow, even by dusty`s high standards this is a stunning performance. no one could sing these epic ballads quite like dusty. think i`ll listen to it one more time then i`ll have to pick up the pieces of my broken heart up off the floor before someone stands on them!
One thing that's so amazing about Dusty. Her studio recordings were meticulous and perfect, but then she sings the song "live" and somehow manages to take that perfection and enhance it even more and she perfects perfection. Who does that? Who CAN do that? Dusty, that's who!
We all have favorite songs sung by our favorite vocalists, but when it comes to Dusty Springfield, the task becomes overwhelming and oh, so, so difficult. This is a woman who had a voice that could not be compared with another. She could sing every genre, sing other people's hits and make them her own and, generally, out-sing every other vocalist on the planet with ease. Dusty was a singular talent...and that talent was huge. If there ever was such a thing as "Blue-eyed Soul", Dusty personified it. There was no one that could touch her...and I believe that is still true! I still rise from my chair and pump up the volume when I hear the opening chords to any of her songs but this one, for whatever reasons, has a place in my heart that is beyond special. Since the first time I heard it, it has never failed to bring a tear to my eye and put a rather huge lump in my throat...but Dusty could do that. She had that kind of talent and that type of voice. She took you away with her on whatever journey she was on and that is a talent so few have had. I doubt there was ever a song that Dusty recorded or performed that didn't have a very special meaning for her. Yes, she put her stamp on every one of those songs and somewhere, somehow and from very early on...she put that same stamp on my heart!
Shrinksjp Ummmmm...I don't think that's correct. I have three of her concerts on DVD and it's not on any of them nor can you listen to her sing it on here on TH-cam! I am also a huge Connie Francis fan and I've never heard her sing this song! This was Dusty's all the way and Francis did not make a habit of singing other people's hits! I mean anything is possible but for her to make it a stock song in concert...you would think it would be available to listen to! BTW...It's not on any album or any song list either!
Kuklapolitan Connie certainly did sing this. I was at her concert when she did. Trump was in the audience. It I also n her European Tour CD. It was un youtube for a while. She did a very dramatic job and returned to it briefly shortly after the conclusion of the song.
I didn't say she NEVER sang it! What, by the way, is the title of that European Tour CD and when was it made? Although it's not on anything I have of hers, I did some research on the title and on her recordings, and the song was not mentioned anywhere!
So cool it's 2019 and I'm reading your post. I am 65 and I'm telling you that when I just now listened to this old love song I was right back there in my teenage bedroom reliving my broken heart . I haven't heard this in decades. I had the 45 and came to love this song even better than the really big hit side which was ~You Don't Have To Say You Love Me~ Crazy isn't it...the importance/ significance of the music that filled our young lives. I hope you had as wonderful of a tragically DRAMATIC love life as I did in those early years lol --- everything was far more intense when we were young wasn't it. ? It was nice to step back in time for just a moment
Dear Dusty.... how we miss your beautiful voice!!! Truly a phenomenal talent the likes of which we may never see again in our lifetime. BRAVO DUSTY!! You make us all FEEL your music.... the emotions.... everything!
I agree Judy I lost my partner of 30 years 4 months ago and I heard this on the car radio the next day. I realize everyday that with beauty and class and a fabulous voice Dusty put into song what I was feeling. Thank you Dusty , the emotion and soul in your voice says it all. You were the best!
My favourite Dusty song, gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Wish someone would load the version she did at the Royal Albert Hall that was brilliant. No-one will ever beat Dusty as the best female singer the UK ever had RIP your music lives on xxx
Just heard this on the radio and googled to hear it again....what a great song and no-one could sing it better than the incredibly talented Dusty. Beautiful song, immaculately performed. We miss you Dusty.
This isn't the first Dusty song where the live performance captured here is actually better than the version they cut to record. Now that's talent. Beautiful song, one of her very best.
I have always loved this song, it was not one of her bigger hits so the radio station I worked for didn't play it so I scooped up the 45 and brought it home. I later bought a nice new digital copy. These days I can only listen to it alone because on November 20th 2011 my eldest daughter who was very dear to my heart was struck and killed by a hit and run driver as she crossed the street late one night. This song puts my thoughts in song and always brings a tear to my eye and yes I still love it.
So sorry to hear about the sad news of your loving daughter Mike my thoughts are with you and your family, Love this song by Dusty Springfield and your right not one of her bigger hits only got to number nine in the charts.
As a fan of hers too, I'm also enraptured by her performance, the vocals and the on-camera one. But, respectfully, I have to wonder whether she was lip-syncing to a recording. This is neither a criticism of the recording, the performance nor of lip-syncing. But for accuracy's sake, I think it ought to be a question raised. I started to question soon after I began watching the video, because the clarity of the vocal might not be so consistent on a live mic, and perhaps there's an orchestra off stage, but that's a damn fine and well-balanced sounding orchestra for 1960s tech. Possibly it's a genius capture, but I wouldn't think less of the quality if it was pre-recorded.
Absolutely timeless. Dusty's performance is mind-numbing. I will never get tired of listening to her lovely voice. This one is a classic. Dusty - you live on in my heart.
Born in London to Irish parents, Dusty Springfield has been acknowledged around the world as the best female soul singer that Britain ever produced. Can't argue with that, Dusty certainly was the best British female singer ever, every performance was effortless as this video shows.
As anyone familiar with this original recording can see, Dusty worked very hard to duplicate the original sound and pacing, note for note, when singing live. Few singers could achieve this, or dared to bother, but nothing would or could restrain the generosity of Spirit and Heart embodied in Dusty’s Magnificent voice.
She went straight from her cute little speaking voice to her booming singers voice @ 0:18 with hardly a pause! Just like that, no prep time, clearing the throat etc... We we're blessed mightily when a talent of this magnitude walked amongst us.
If you don't have "Dusty live at the Royal Albert Hall" dvd. You might want to get it. She brought the house down singing the entire song in 1979. Her last concert in England. That was ashame as still had many great years ahead of her vocally.
I was 17 when she came on the scene in 1964 ..part of the British Invasion headed by the Beatles. I became an instant fan..her little "concerts for the kids"..the big band sound, the big booming sound, was fantastic. Her fashion and makeup were copied by all of us. It was a magical time, and those who discovered Dusty after the mid sixties missed out on the magic. You can never know how good those days were. At least we have YOu Tube, where Dusty can sing for us forever and ever.
Dusty's talent is timeless. She was blessed with all the elements of great entertainers. Perfect pitch diction, emotional control over the lyrics, and storytelling through emotions. Singers like that don't come along maybe once in a generation. We were blessed to hear her music and see her through her videos. Her voice is immortal.
I adore Dusty, from the first time I heard I Only Want to be with You. I was in the supermarket this afternoon and this song was playing. I couldn't believe I'd forgotten about it. My absolute favorite is Going Back.
I was there when Dusty burst onto the musical scene and she never ceases to inspire me. Her fashion, her unique and crazy personality (Daffy Duck was her favorite person!) and her penchant for throwing crockery against the wall when she was in a bad mood, made me laugh. Her voice, the fact she was THERE with the Beatles, makes me pine with remorse that I can't be there again.......but we have her videos and fabulous songs..........Dusty Springfield ...thank you.
The woman, the personality, the singer, the voice, the actress ,the drama... in every way ,incomparable beauty... absolutely one of a kind. She is so authentically beautiful one thinks she may be a goddess.
Exquisite. Dusty' s ballads break my heart. All I See Is You and I Close My Eyes, And Count To Ten. Never will we hear the likes again Beautiful, gifted Dusty. I love you and always will. .
This is one of my most favorite songs sung by one of most favorite singers...Everytime I hear her sing this song I feel so much for my love. It's simply her amazing power!
Thank you ever so much Dusty, for that lovely song. I lost my wife not so very long ago,. But that song touches my heart, it states just perfectly how I have felt since the saddest day in my life. God Rest You Dusty and Thank You For the Memories Ian XThank you ever so much Dusty, for that lovely song. I lost my wife not so very long ago,. there are so many other songs of dusty .. which are equally good to each other ... but nothing comes closer to this one ... dusty's voice has made full justice to this song. Has any other artist done a cover of this song ?? please enlighten me.
One of the greatest live performances ever, without a doubt. Dusty, possibly the greatest female pop singer of all time, at her phenomenal peak. No one else could have done that song justice the way she did. Spine-tinglingly awesome.
I always love this song... Even though I was not born on the moment this song was on top of the hit. The first time I listened to this song was when I was in junior high school. When I listened Dusty sang this song in my radio channel, I fell in love with this song so instantly. May you rest in holy peace in heaven, Dusty Springfield. 😢🙏🏻
It is hilarious that copyright has muted the other recordings of this but because this is live they've left it. The funny thing is that a singer of her calibre sounds exactly the same. What a terrible loss to the music industry she is. RIP Dusty x
Many times, Dusty's live performances exceeded her recorded versions of a song. She didn't believe this. There is something to be said for the 'flow' you get at a live performance that at times makes it better. At times in a studio, she would labor (needlessly as you are right, she was the greatest of singers) singing the same line of a song over and over until she thought it was fit. That interrupts the state of 'flow' I'm talking about.
Seriously one of the greatest vocal performances ever recorded. Struggling to think of one with more dramatic and devastating moments. And a beautiful composition too. Probably my favourite Dusty song.
I was graduating from high school when this was popular. It has always been one of by favorites. She always sang strong, powerful, and dynamic songs. I can not remember a female singer of those days that was as good as Dusty.
It is one thing to have a great voice, but a completely different thing to have that coupled to complete control of that voice and a great feel for music. Dusty quite simply is one of the great singers of our time.
In the early sixties I had a crush on this beautiful lady sixty years later I don't think it ever went away, RIP Dusty.
My all-time favorite Dusty Springfield song. I’m 72. I know all her songs but this is a masterpiece😇
She was right…
It sounds Italian….❤🇮🇹
Beautiful Dusty, amazing voice yet such an unfortunate life…❤🖤🌹
the finest female vocalist the UK has ever produced. we will never see talent like this again
I was born in 1969,but she sure was prettiest singer in uk backthen but especially one on most versatile singers in Europe
I LOVE THEM ALL. BUT HER SOUND IS PART OF THAT PAST WERE LIFE WAS GOOD. I CAN PICTURE MOMENT WHEN THIS SONG PLAYED. THEY HOLD TIME LONG FOR I REMEMBER. LONG FOR
What about Shirley Bassey? I do love Dusty as well.
NEVER
Totally agree - she was a once in a lifetime gem.
Yes, a tragic life but she overcame her addictions, died clean and sober, still had her animals, cats, and gave the world the amazing legacy of her voice and talent - a full life by any standards and one lived well at the end. Rest in peace, dear Dusty.
I lived in Australia in 69 saw her at the Chevron Hotel Sydney out of this world 😢
one of my favourite dusty songs full of emotion she looks so beautiful never ever will therebe another like her thank you for this god rest dusty x
I agree but wanted to tell her there is a singer from wales named duffy - who sounds a lot like her in some of her songs - take a listen
The most beautiful woman of all time, with the most beautiful voice of all time!
Today is the first time I heard this song. I’m in tears as I listen. I lost my husband 4 years ago and the words say exactly how I feel.

What would my young life have been without that voice. I'm 62 now. I loved her then and I still love her today. I miss you Dusty!

Indeed. She was amazing.
The French horn gives her the note before she sings.
That's why she was the greatest.
You are so right. Never to be equalled.
Very true
I'm only 12 and had never heard of Dusty Springfield before today. She's brilliant
And you already show remarkable taste. Dusty Springfield is someone to savor. You might sample some Sarah Vaughan, her material from the fifties and sixties such as her live recording of the Beatles' "And I Love Him/Her." Good luck, young man or woman.

Absolutely brilliant, what more can a person say. And In my opinion Dusty was probably the best female singer that has ever come out of the UK ❤️
I kinda agree, but I think Kathy Kirby was her equal!
I kinda agree, but I think the lovely Kathy Kirby was, voice wise her equal, Dusty was Britains biggest star, she was an Internationally famous !

Latish 60s here and she was marvellous. Even when she lip synched on Bandstand you wanted more. Vale, one of the greats
She lives in us all because people lived through the time (See my just written comment) all the best to you
I love old songs

Her breath-control in this song is amazing -- long phrasing -- gosh. And perfect pitch - she never sung a bum-note in her life. Wow.

Gosh, her Ballards always make me cry, I've loved Dusty since I was a young girl in childhood
never fails to get me, loved this woman then, still love her now. tragic early end to a magnificent talent
Gets me every time. Magnificent.
Talent by the bucket load what have we now ???
totally awesome, totally brilliant. DUSTY was magical and one of a kind
Wonderful live rendition. Such a talented singer and Dusty still sounds great today. Timeless. x
Amazing talent and beautiful. She puts many of these so called artists today to shame. This lady could really sing.
there are so many other songs of dusty .. which are equally good to each other ... but nothing comes closer to this one ... dusty's voice has made full justice to this song.
Has any other artist done a cover of this song ?? please enlighten me.
Love this song brings me to tears every time I hear it love you dusty x💜💜
One of the greatest live performances ever, without a doubt. Dusty, possibly the greatest female pop singer of all time, at her phenomenal peak. No one else could have done that song justice the way she did. Spine-tinglingly awesome.
The best female British singer's best song
Very very true "
Great song and incredible singer. Love Dusty. Top of her game in this.
Dusty was a fantastic singer, such a beautiful and unique voice.
THIS SONG OF DUSTY WILL LIVE ON!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR THE UPLOAD
Benny. A bit late but i love ur comment sweet man. 💕
I had such crush on Dusty when I was like 14 ... such a beautiful voice on this gorgeous song ... Dusty, Dusty, Dusty!
Beautiful , great voice ...very good singer ...all in a human being ,thanks lady DUSTY ,thanks for the mágic of your voice ..everywhere you stay ❤
This is one of my favourites of Dusty it’s just so lovely x
this is one of my most favorite song which unfortunately you can never see in videoke or karaoke machine
There is a range in this song. Most people couldn't sing it and hit the high notes, probably best that it isn't in the karaoke machines.
Yes, and I honestly think that the 2/4 measure 4 bars from the top would trip up the amateur singer. What time is the train wreck?
Ha! You are so right. Best left to Dusty.
Dusty still is one of my favourite singers saw her years ago 60s was the best RIP❤
Seriously one of the greatest vocal performances ever recorded. Struggling to think of one with more dramatic and devastating moments. And a beautiful composition too. Probably my favourite Dusty song.
IMHO... the best female singer in the UK!!!! RIP Dusty!!!! your talent is truly missed!!
Dusty quite simply is one of the great singers of our time.
best british female singer of all time.
fantastic song beautifully sung by dusty a great singer
