Some singers are technically wonderful but lack an emotional connection to the material. Some singers miss notes here and there but sell the performance with their interpretation of the lyrics. Dusty had it all- flawless vocals and a great storyteller. She truly was one of a kind. Performers nowadays should study tapes like this as a master class on how to simply stand on a bare stage and deliver it.

oj shilinski Yes! I've always loved Dame Shirley Bassey. Whatever the reason, there are so many extraordinary singers from Wales!

We would sit and listen to "our Dusty", together, with tears streaming down our faces, because we just couldn't get over the beauty of her voice. I love that younger people are discovering her! I'm surprised at how many there are. They should be proud of their superior taste in singers.

I got to spend an evening with Dusty Springfield in 1966. She was in L.A. for something and my friend introduced me to her at a little club, where she sang a couple of songs for the audience. It was totally unannounced and completely wonderful. I remember after we left the club we went to Denny's and she asked for a cuppa tea (it was IRIS tea). Someone came up and asked her name; she looked down at the teabag, then looked up at the person and said, "I'm Iris!". What a hoot! GREAT lady. GREAT talent. Gone too soon!!!

Just imagine, if everyone who loves these vids went out and bought a CD or two of Dusty, think of the message it would send to the music companies. We could maybe have a revival of Dusty's music. Wouldn't that be great? Younger folks would soon be captivated as we were back in the day; and then, who knows? I think everyone should have a chance to hear this lovely lady sing and know how truly great she was.

Ron van der Tuijn ; Yes, best female version( for the best male version, check out Glenn Campbell's live and studio versions. The live performance was a rare clip from a 1960s Bob Hope Special. The studio version with photos that someone added to enhance the emotional impact, But both versions are emotionally impactful. TH-cam " Glenn Campbell if you go away" let me know what you think. By the way, Glenn recently passed away , too. This was my favorite song by him.

A remarkable example of how an incredibly gifted artist led a movement to bring to the forefront 50's pop rock as well as Motown soul to the World...And to this day I weep as I listen to this music just as relevant now in 2024 as in the 50's..

I've listened to a lot of versions of this great song, and am quite fond of the performances by Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion, but no one wrings as much emotion and pathos from it as Dusty. She was a gifted singer who also happened to possess one of the most iconic voices of pop music.

Dusty could sing anything ... her talent spanned many genres - e.g. this (fancy poetic european ballads), powerful ballads, wall of sound, folk, soul, middle of the road ... etc etc etc, she never disappointed, she was brilliant ... I always have her at high volume on my iPod.
