A 60s Classic... I sang it drunk in a bar in Ireland... Everyone laughed, the Band. and the girl I sang it for... I'm 71 and wherever you are Mary Hackett I will always love you. ❤️

It was the english cover version of the italian song Io che non vivo by Pino Donaggio (1965) , Dusty and Elvis made this song known to the entire world.....When I was in Dublin in 19070 as a student... at Sloopy's ...... How can forget !!! I met my wife there......

They don't make women or singers like Dusty anymore. So sad she could never be her real self and she was never truly happy. I wish she could have lived to see herself on TH-cam and how many people truly love her. I being one of them. She had a voice of an angel and now she is with the angels. Love you Dusty

1966: I'm 14 years old, passing through puberty, getting interested in girls but very shy. Then I heard Dusty singing You Don't Have To say You Love me on the radio. Wow - I was totally awestruck and in love! The first 45 I ever bought.
1981: I'm 29 years old, married (still am to the same lovely girl), and starting to go deaf. I still listen to Dusty singing this, but not as often as I'd like to.
1999: 47 years old. I'm hard of hearing now, but when I heard of Dusty's death I went searching for my beloved 45. It's gone as has a lot of my music collection because of my deafness.
2006: 54 years old and very hard of hearing. I find a book and 4 CD collection named "Simply ... Dusty". I buy it like a shot. The old magic is still there, although the volume I need to listen to it properly gives me a headache. I listen to it as often as I can.
2020: 68 years old and hearing loss is severe. I stumble across this in You tube. I'm normally very dodgy about trying to listen to 40 year old clips - the quality is usually so poor and the volume so low it's impossible for me to understand. I give it a go anyway - and suddenly I'm back in 1966 - all the old magic is still there! I'll love you forever Dusty :-)

With Jackie Kennedy and the Beatle girlfriends our role models, singers like Dusty and Pet Clark at the helm of the Youth Quake revolution that shook the world we were indeed the luckiest girls on the planet. OMG.........what a time, what magic, and Dusty was there at the helm of the excitement of the times.

@@colinbryan5376 First time I heard them was Silver Threads and Golden Needles when I was 16 or 17 right when the Brit Invasion happened. I figured they were a Brit folk group and while I loved the bouncy sound of that song I didn't really pay attention to what they looked like..to me it was just another folk trio like the Brothers Four, Chad Mitchell Trio, etc. When I REALLY noticed Dusty was when she went solo with I Only Want to be With You and Stay Awhile. I somewhat resembled her back then so I was a fan right away and took a lot of my fashion styles from her as well as Petula Clark, the original Beatle girlfriends, and of course, my idol, Jackie Kennedy when she went Mod that year and she became one of the "cool girls"...tossed away the pillboxes and started to rock in her mini skirts and wigs. Was it just a dream or was there really a time like that?

Beth Virginia Phillips. Wow! You and I must be of the same generation, and judging by your term Brit invasion, I’m thinking you live stateside. I’m in the UK but visit the US each year.Dusty also was quite a mover. She came up with hand actions not seen before. Oh yes and it would have been a good time to invest in black eye shadow too.Her version of Son of a Preacher Man had me moving round the living room! My offspring thinks at my age I should be settling down but I reckon we gotta lot more living to do. Isn’t it great to hear from people who think along the same lines.

She says the opening line and then I lost it, one of the most dynamic vocalists of the 60s still hit all the marks years later like time stood still. The heartfelt lyrics match the vocalist like a glove and the rest is history. She influenced so many artists to hang in there, fearlessly sing with all the vocal chops. Fabulous to hear again.
