Best teardown video I've found and I think I looked at em all! Love that you actually included the tips on the more tricky parts to re assemble. Thanks to guys like you, guys like me can clean properly and fix little things without scrapping the gun after! Thanks again

Excellent training video! It's obvious you have worked with these rifles a LOT, just by the way you know where to place your hands to catch all the springs and tension pieces. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you making this video for people like myself with limited knowledge of these beauties!

Just picked up my first Guide gun yesterday and this is the best video for the tear-down and reassemble too date. Had nothing but problems with my Winchesters so decided to purchase the Marlin, hope it works better. I was a small arms coach and tech for the military so my Winchester problem had nothing to do with lack of skill it seemed I had lemons. So you Winchester lovers I'm not dissing them my Model 94 in 45 lc case hardened trapper works fine and I love it it was the 45-70 model 86 had problems with.

With your help I was able to completely disassemble my 45,70 Marlin guide rifle.
Clean and oil all parts, and reasseable to working condition.
    Thank you very much.

Like others have said ... a great video for those of us who have never previously torn down a Marling lever gun. GREATLY appreciate your plain-spoken approach to explaining the process. Mine is currently in pieces while I await a couple of enhancements. I would add that for anyone as heavy handed as I am, do not over-tighten your loading gate/spring screw. It will snap ... likely leaving you needing a new screw and possibly the gate if the screw remain stay in place in the gate. My bad. Again, my thanks. And Welcome Home.

Very useful guide. I just recently purchased an 1895SBL, so this helped A LOT into understanding how to disassemble it THE RIGHT WAY.
Having a proper screwdriver bit set is essential, so I spent extra money on a Magna-Tip Screwdriver set from Brownells.
    Tanks for the education. 👍

Hey Jim, thanks for the great video. Good explanation of how these come apart and go back together. I watched a couple of times and took notes. I got 16 steps to complete disassembly (down to removing the loading gate). I'll type up my notes so I can follow them as I disassemble the first few times. Really helpful video, thanks for taking the time to make it!

Very informative, Jim. Thank you. I haven't stripped my Marlin 1895, yet, but I did remove the plastic ammo follower and install a stainless one for durability. I've shot over 150 rounds through it so far, with half of that one sitting to sight in a scope for 100 yards. I forgot my add-on butt pad that day and paid dearly for that, as I was shooting Hornady's hot 325grain FTX rounds. It took days for my shoulder to stop complaining. Live and learn. By the way, Welcome Home from the Nam from a fellow VN Vet.

Craig Szwed thanks for sharing. I just ordered a stainless steel follower over the brass version from Beartooth Mercantile. Paid $19.00 with shipping. Not bad at all. Thanks again!

Imagine a 5 pound 29" barreled single shot 12ga with a fixed mod choke loaded with winchester SUPER X 3" mag (1800fps 1oz) slugs. No recoil pad, muzzle brake or anything. Just a hard plastic butt plate and every bit of recoil you can get from a 3" slug. I took only two (maybe three) shots and ended up with a giant bruise. The thing kicked so hard that it left a faint "H&R" on my shoulder. It took a little while before my shoulder stopped complaining also. Since then I've learned how to CORRECTLY hold that old boom-stick
