Thank you very much for taking the time to post this great video! I just inherited an FAL, and I'd never disassembled or cleaned one before. Your video really helped.
This brought back the memories. I was taught this stuff a long long time ago. And, for a field-strip, we used the inside of our beret to put the bolt and bolt-carrier on. It didn't matter if there was an oil-smudge on the inside. Not in the field, anyway. The gas piston and spring were long enough that you had to be careful.
Just got my first FAL, and this video is superb. Thank you so much! I'm used to the stoner platforms, so the FAL, is a whole new ballgame, but one I'm really liking.
I have heard previously that for proper fal semi operation you close the gas block until it stops cycling with that ammo then open it back up 2 clicks. Thought that might help someone get the most out of this great rifle.
Nice work on the video, appreciate the info. Proud to hang the SA-58 on the wall... nothing says hello like a well-placed .308 round. And you gotta love the adjustable Gas System - firing almost ANY ammo (.308 / 7.62X51 NATO) is a big Plus on the modern battlefield. Now, if I could only afford the ammo to Shoot the dam thing!!!
Just make sure to never try to remove the recoil spring inside the stock... At least not on an original FN-FAL. Takes days to get it back in ;o) I speak from experience
Thanks, I got a FAL 5 hours ago and wondered about the pivot pin/screw thing. The answer was just to hold a finger on the sarlacc side. BTW In your video, the screw pin thingie was reversed compared to a Stg58
Great video Jim. Maybe you can answer a question for me? On some of the Belgium FAL's, there is an asterisk added near the serial number on the side of the receiver. Its not on any of the Imbel or Argentinian FAP guns, only the Belgium ones. Its not part of the serial number. Any idea what it represents?
Not likely to happen. There are parts required but are NOT in a semi auto FAL to make it fire full auto. You won't have the proper auto sear in the semi auto receivers. And no way to install them, either. I seriously doubt you can make it full auto by jiggling anything. If you think so, please explain how you get the required hammer delay as the bolt is closing and locking ? Otherwise you have hammer follow as the bolt closes and not enough energy to operate the firing pin. And having one of these guns fire from an unlocked breech is dangerous to the shooter
Your post reminded me of something ... DSA has a carbine length (16.25" barrel) complete front end with a quick release gas plug. If I'm going to convert a 21" to a 16.25" carbine, fixed stock, how would I go about the swap or should I just drop in their carbine length barrel that comes with an attached closed-ear gas block? --- Or should I just get an 18" and be happy with it because apparently pushing it below 18" will, according to many, bring with it a host of annoying problems?
I don’t like correcting people, and I’m not sure what you consider being the arm for a country. As far as I know however, the FAL was adopted in 93 countries. I don’t know if you are talking about countries still using it or what, but most numbers I hear are in the 90’s, not 49.
When I was cleaning my fal, i pushed the hammer forward, like you warned about the 547 mark, and the hammer strut(?) popped out. Should I take it to a gunsmith to replace? Thank
I have pretty much the same fal as in this video but my disassembly lever is stuck. No matter how hard I press it, it won’t budge. Im destroying my thumbs just trying to press it. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks
I am having issues with my FAL breaking down from the rear when firing. I bought it thinking it was all functional, and if I pull down with my right hand on the pistol grip, and push up on the handguard it will cycle flawlessly. Does anybody know what may be going on? nothing appears to be worn.
I didn't know those had an adjustable gas system, neat feature. I wish more guns came standard with that...would make shooting underpowered russian ammo easier.
Watching you field strip this rifle got me reacquainted with the FN FAL. I used this rifle in the New Zealand Army 35 years ago. Loved this weapon.
the FNFAL and the HK91 are my favorite rifles of all time.

This vid just saved my rear end, its already 5AM, thank you!
Jim's videos are so cut2the-chase, non-BS. Plus always good to get advice from a veteran.
Thanks for the video. Just purchased an 11” SA-58 OSW from DSArms and had no idea on how to field strip the thing. Thanks for your service also sir!
He's getting real good at narrating and showing the procedures !
Just got my first FAL, and this video is superb. Thank you so much! I'm used to the stoner platforms, so the FAL, is a whole new ballgame, but one I'm really liking.
Many thanks for the informative and easy to follow video. Greetings from New Zealand.

Thanks for posting this vid, just cleaned Dad's FAL from top to bottom to get it ready for 3 Gun this weekend!
Great talk through. I got more from your overview than from the manufacturer video. Semper Fi
Thanks, Jim. This is the video I've been looking for. Very helpful for a newbie FAL owner. Keep up the good work.

I was havin issues figuring out the break-apart joint. I've never seen one like that that is a screw type. Thanks!
Holy cow ! Your from Lords of War!
Love your show man!
Thanks for explaining the adjustable gas system, I just bought one and it didn't come with a manual.
Dang Jim you're extremely knowledgeable, great video as always.
Just traded for an FAL yesterday..thanks for the video

If you want to upgrade your stock to a modern stock and you have a Century Arms R1A1 what would you recommend and what ia available.
I am kind of new to the FAL rifle but I really like. I also really liked your video! It was very very informative thank you.
Good to see you're still working now that you're a famous moviestar. :D

thnks jim...i like the new show you're on...
Another great vid on a cool gun! Thanks Jim.

Hermoso video, muy bien explicado, me arruine con el idioma pero voy a traducirlo y me lo descargo.
Felicidades por este video, me sirve de mucho....

Wha kind of handguards are those? Very interesting looking!
Any tips on adding a carry handle?

Merci monsieur pour cette video bien détaillée qui va m'aider pour mon nouveau fusil.
++++++
Hey guys, is there anyway to swap trigger groups on a rifle if the takedown lever is broken thanks
Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
oh how is changing handle conect bolt, i dont see where do they conect?
Hi, can you put on safe when it's not hammered? Since for example in the M4 Carbine if it is not hammered it can not be put in safe.
I have pretty much the same fal as in this video but my disassembly lever is stuck. No matter how hard I press it, it won’t budge. Im destroying my thumbs just trying to press it. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks
Does this Field Strip also hold true for the DSA Sa58 FAL Rifles ?
I am looking for the scope mount, I ordered the one from DSARMS, but 1mm too long, any recommendations?
Bro, what about the gas piston and gas piston bore to oil , not to oil .? Cleaning etc thanks
So my fal has the same break point as yours. But when I try to break it, it won’t open up all way. It gets stuck. What am I doing wrong?
hey jim! you still in the downeast area? I've got a c-96 that needs a bit of work...
It looks like the recoil spring is in the stock ??
What type of recoil spring is used ?
would you please tell me how to change the front sight tip.MINE IS BROKEN
I bought a used one but it didn’t come with a carrying handle, if I buy one from online could I slap it on and if so how difficult is it?
A quarter works perfectly
Great video!
I have been looking for synthetic stock with the flip up rear stock plate. Do you know where that came from?
FoE Dekker that's a Tapco SAW stock and the hand guard is a Tapco T-48 hand guard
Thank you for the video. Very informative.
Thanks!!! You've helped me a lot!!!
Double tap triggers are completely legal, I wish I knew how to convert that full auto position on mine, to a binary function.
I am having issues with my FAL breaking down from the rear when firing. I bought it thinking it was all functional, and if I pull down with my right hand on the pistol grip, and push up on the handguard it will cycle flawlessly. Does anybody know what may be going on? nothing appears to be worn.
Semper Fi Devil Dog. Nice review.
Pretty cool lookin gun ,considering its made in France...i have a French Semi hunting rifle vintage, but this thing is very cool.
Is that a stock from a SAW?
Hay my fal jamd and i need some info on how i can fix it a
how do you take the stock off -- and don't say 'unscrew it' -- won't work
I rotate my gas plug and it doesn't come out? It's like it's hung up on something?
What handguard is that?
Tapco T-48 hand guard, the buttstock is a Tapco SAW stock
Good video, 87 countries used this weapon.
the tapco furniture doesnt do the fal justice, i have the stg 58 furniture on mine, looks more sleek
You guys just got constitutional carry, congrats!
I didn't know those had an adjustable gas system, neat feature. I wish more guns came standard with that...would make shooting underpowered russian ammo easier.
I like the T48 style polymer grip. Need to get one of those.
Built it !!!!!!!!!!!! Or several just like it.
I would like to own one of those rifles some day
FAL Fusil Automatique Leger, light automatic rifle.
Good video, thanks.
right on!!...keep it up...i'm sure you wouldn't trade occupations for anything...
Thanks Man
The bolt carrier wont come out
I hear discovery channel has an open slot for a gun show! good video, i just acquired one of these in a trade for a BPS 12 ga.

His gunship has been shut down :(
ماكو بلعراق مثلها غير شكل اكو خشب مو باغه
"Laaeet Atomatuk Rafahl"
Rather complex weapons, RPG-7 as something more interesting ...
Lol I love your accent
90 countrys......
Its Belgian not french....
I don't have an accent... Or at least I don't think so, hahaha
Thanks... I think.... Hahahahaha
Honestly? This guy would rather have an M 14 than a FAL?
Yes Sir, I knew what the letters stand for, but have you ever heard a hillbilly try to speak French / Belgian ? Not a very pretty sound at all.
Bahaha
Naaaahh, not a movie star at all. Just a gun crank still trying to get by.
