    I found this rifle after playing the new MW game which has a lever action that you can use called the mk2 carbine but it has a made up name for legal reasons so I've been trying to find the rifle it was molded after and finally came across the 1895 sbl which just so happens to be almost identical. The only differences between this gun and the one in the game are a slightly different rear sight and the metal piece holding the barrel and tube together has some separation from the hand guard. Love the look of this gun.

    Really like your setup. I own a 2016 Marlin 1895 ABL, had also a few problems with the gun in the beginning. Put some paracord to the leaver and my gunsmith took care of some technical problems. Now it's running beautiful and always puts a smile on my face when shooting some handloads at the range. Greetings from Germany.

    Cool rifle. I basically did the same thing with a 45-70 stainless guide. Added the XS rail with the smaller diameter peep and topped it with a proper IER, the leaupold VX-R 1.5x5x33 scope. Same rings. Still using the pouch like you took off.
    Thinking of putting on the ranger precision point synethtic stock and forend as the guide is just a painted black stock anyway. Would make it truly weather proof....

      @@buildhuntxplore The Leupold is great, super clear, good dot brightness. Medium rings and set back far enough that it almost touches the peep ring. No shadow at 5x but quick snap shots work better from 1.5-~4x. At 5x, I need to crawl the stock a little...

    My 1895M has an Aimpoint Mini H-1 Scout configured (forward mounted), Wild West trigger and ejector....not a fan of the ejector. Still need the better lever loop.
    I also use a thin strap sling....
    I don't have irons because of the red dot...but...I have a red dot. I also put on a cheek riser that combats my cowboy stock...which you don't have.
    Mine kills elk sub-100yds no worries. Last one was a bad shot (mostly liver), he died quick but was a beesh to find. I'm also .450 Marlin instead of .45-70....wish I went with .45-70. = (

    @00:30 he cut his fingers on the action. I bought a new 1894 in 2012, the real bad ones. I was sliced open within a few minutes of examining the gun. The trigger was that sharp. I polished it up inside and out, and it's been a champ. I was lucky. The wood fit and the sights and mag tube were on straight.
    I agree with his conclusions. I have 3 lever guns and the polished up Remlin is easy my favorite.

    These rifles are great with a simple red dot to keep the weight down. I have the 1894 SBL(44 magnum) and a Trijicon RMR on it. No problem dinging the steel plates at 100 meters but I'm not really hunting with it. I guess it depends on preference, eyesight, and how far you plan to take hunting shots with it. *(And to note, they seem to be getting the quality control better. My 1894 had no fit and finish problems really and was pretty smooth out of the box. Not as good of fit and finish as say my Browning BLR, but better than it was a few years ago by far.)

    But guess back before the 1990's Remington did really have some good quality guns.

    Have the 336 xlt marlin 30-30 ss. Changed out the loading gait trigger extension and trigger. It's super nice and I've got a Leopold 2 by 7 power. Zeroed at 100 which is more than I will get a clear shot at where I live in Oklahoma. Lots of small hills, and valleys but mostly thick brush and trees. Most shots are around 50 yds or closer if you have a good spot. I zero at 100 because it's just a bit off at 50, but not much and just a bit off at 150 but not much. I'd never think about shooting anything with a 30-30 over 100 period. Hogs.....yes. Ha.
    My next buy will the the same configuration of Marlin in the 45/70. Curious, why does your barrel look so short?

    Hey Brian, what's been your thought on Marlin's QC as of late. I'm in between the Henry Model X and the Marlin 1894 in 357. I'm wanting to lean towards the Marlin due to the extra round, and the lighter advertised weight. The one thing keeping me away is the idea that Marlin still might not have their QC in order. Wanted to know your thoughts on your rifles and if you had any hick-ups in your process. Thanks!

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Howdy! Judging by my experiences, it's gotten better. This 2017 1895 SBL was my first new Marlin. It was in the worst shape. Since then, I bought a 2019 1894 CST that was much better, then I bought a new 336 W this year and it was better than the 1894. I may have gotten lucky, but from what I can see, it got better. I've heard mixed reviews. Your best bet is to put your hands on the rifle at Academy, Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc. before buying and run the action, see how it feels.
      I haven't handled a Henry yet, but I hope to get my hands on one soon for a review/comparison to my Marlins.
      Best of luck!

    I got to hold a henry all weather 45-70 that other day I can't say much good about it the front wood grip was sanded flat and I couldn't hold that with my sweaty hand to save my life. I don't know if it gets wet it grips better but I wasn't impressed I'll keep my marlin 1895 sbl.

  • @IHateYoutubeHandles615
    @IHateYoutubeHandles615 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Scopes mounted in sub optimal manners are a hot button for me. i'm familiar with this rifle, and how the rear ghost ring is a nice aftermarket part included with the rail and front sight, from the Marlin factory. But look; if you really must keep the rear ghost ring, just bite the bullet (so to speak) and get some rings that are high enough to clear the ghost ring so you can bring the scope back to the proper eye relief for the proper shooting position. Of course on this rifle if you DO use medium to high rings, you're going to have to put a hump on the stock now to raise your eyeline to the scopes optical axis. I see you have one on the desk there but that's not going to work with that oh so cool looking leather ammo holder you have on the stock.
    OR, if you're really only shooting at 50+ yards, just do without the scope; the sights are excellent, you're young and hopefully have great eyesight.
    The best setup for this rifle IMHO is something like a 1-4x scope with a bold and simple reticle. Like a single vertical post. At 1x it's both eyes open shooting. Or zoom into take a more aimed shot. Remove the rear ghost ring. Check out the Trijicon AccuPOINT 1-4x with vertical post and glowing amber chevron at the top of the post. No batteries to wear out.
    OR, see if you can get an Express style rear sight and mount it forward of the scope, or possible under the front of the scope tube, so it's ready to use when you use a QD scope ring setup.
    Having your scope touching the rear sight like that is just foolish. The recoil of the .45-70 is going to cause those parts to rub over time. You also now can't adjust your eyepiece focus without loosening the rings, which may screw up your zero.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info, i'll check into that scope. I really want to avoid higher rings, if possible. I may just put a red dot on it and give that a try.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I zeroed at 50 yards. Not going to have too much drop under 200 yards really. I haven't had a chance to take my out past 100. I'll have to get back to you on the hold-over. For me, the 50 yard zero works well. The only reason I put a scope on it is for the low light situations. I would really rather run it without, but I want to do my best to have an ethical harvest in low light.

    So, you replaced most of the guts with aftermarket quality parts..... instead of remlin junk. Then spent hours and blood finishing the work that should have been done at the factory on your new gun. How is the stock fit? I have several JM XLR’s and my big complaint is they are very heavy, much heavier than my BO serial number 1895. I use the Leupold 2x7x33 on mine. It has good optics and does not handle like a fence post.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yeah I put a bit of work into it, but it was well worth it. A diamond in the rough, I guess you’d say. The stock fit isn’t the best at the top of the rear tang. I’m considering refitting it to make it perfect, but I just don’t have time for it at the moment. It’s slightly heavy, but I feel like that gives me more control over a lighter gun. Handle like a fence post...lol, I like that

    • @bluesman7475
      @bluesman7475 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is the part that really bugs me. If I buy a gun, I am willing to pay more for quality. I get a bit testy with remlins because it is like buying a kit gun that I have to finish. I would rather spend more and get a quality product. So. Instead of buying 3 or 4 marlins, I now buy a Turnbull every year.
