As a former bouncer i am glad to see that somebody finally tells what the reality in fighting and attacks really are. Martial art can help the skill of fighting, but in the very most cases all it does is create a false sense of security. If a woman f ex has been taught some martial arts, she will in the far most cases just end up pissing of her attacker even more and end up being in even greater danger. She will be in a much better position if she learned the reality from guys like this.

If nothing else, this is the most insightful analysis of this type of knife attack I've heard so far. Especially in these crazy times, it's worth paying attention.

That violent intent and aggression is everything. It's easy to defend against a partner that attacks in a slow and sterile way - because it's not realistic. Defending against a fast and aggressive attacker is incredibly hard, but that's real life. Great job.

great job as always....the problem is in the law... many times it doesn't protect the defender but the attacker....it's unacceptable to be at the mercy of every damn fool....and that's because the laws are passed by people who have no experience of the brutality of the street ...I live in a European Union country

As an FMA and A/T practitioner I really enjoyed your class. Especialy the "don't back up" .I don't believe in running away, that will just get someone else killed. Go forward. The yell "drop the knife" is for the police and armed citizens so as not to get shot .It can also help in the inquiry if you were lucky enough to be able to use deadly force. If you go in unarmed and survive, you will probably suffer broken hands😊.

I see so many knife 🔪 defense videos where the attacker is standing in a stationary placement
Position while flailing away with his knife!!! The video footage of this horrible knife attack incident shows the actual reality of knife attacks!!! Even in an actual attack without a weapon, the attacker will try to grab and punch the victim as the attacker is moving his body mass forward!!!

Instructor is damn right, train as you fight, otherwise you will be killed by the knife attacker. Best choice is, go back two steps cause that is pure instinct than flank to create space or close in to counter attack. Both alterernatives are realistic. Most attackers use knifes the same way that they punch, the come at you with a large swinging overhead punch. Smart flanking is so important. But, defenders thinking also turns off in such situation due to adrenaline. Only the most basic reactions will survive. Good instructor!

  • @zcamak
    @zcamak 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

There's one thing that still scratches back of my head - in previous video you showed how to deal with the attacker if he grabs you and pulls you - but what if grabs you and keep that arm stiff, so he's keeping the perfect distance for attacks. I imagine this is instinct response what the attacker would do - to have max protection and max damage. Will that previous defense also work if he's preventing you for closing the distance with that stiff arm? I hope i'm clear what i have in mind.
And great video as always, cheers!

Another insightful video Michiel! Oh. One more concept to add to this. I don't know if it is legal for civilians to conceal carry a firearm in Europe, but many people do here in the US. And we used to do tests like this when I was in the military, and basically, the rule of thumb is to always keep a round chambered when you carry. Some people don't out of safety concerns, but if a knife weilding attacker runs at you with full speed and intent at 25 feet, there will never be enough time to draw the gun, chamber a round, and then fire at the attacker. Even with a round chambered, it is a close call. Alternative trainings like this are a great tool to have since a firearm could make someone ineffective under fight or flight.

"I don't know if it is legal for civilians to conceal carry a firearm in Europe" In UK we are not allowed to carry anything specifically for self defence - improvisation is the key. As for a cc gun.....do not pass go, go directly to jail.

Yeah. That makes it crucial to learn these vital self protection techniques. Oh. They do have a non lethal firearm that uses compressed gas. But I am very skeptical on its effectiveness in a violent encounter.

Training and familiarity is the best defence when your confident of your ability it makes a massive difference but the average person just isnt going to commit the time required to get the skill and mental preparedness required to effectively deal with this life threatening situation.

Put out the vids showing how you fight after you are stuck, or while being stuck, because on the street more often then not, you will feel it before you see it. This will serve a stronger purpose in reality then prevention.

in martial arts you develop fast hands and strong legs. with a knife. just run.. failing that pick up something to obstruct the threat , remove the knife .. hitting his knife hand . but running beats all. the military have to have try defend this in war but they have mo other option , normally its a losing battle… anywhere you get touched with a blade it hurts and due to adrenaline like this teacher says he may not feel your strikes. use your strong legs and run. or have a bigger pair of knives yourself. like he says. never easy. if u are in a gun country and have firearm.. shoot 3 shots. 2 centre mass and one to head… then just leave… dont wait to explain yourself

It shows how scary and in the shit you are in,in real life.
Remember also we are our own 'first responders' because we are being brainwashed by a system that says if you do 'pre emptive' action you will be in the shit with the law.
This video highlights the real speed and no chance of 'de- escalation techniques' that can be used.
Yes a Policeman who was trying to control a guy who was actually trying to confront the attacker did pass away from a brutal neck wound.
These are crazy times with crazy people and we must be as prepared as possible.

I can see how my reaction
would be to step back, a big
    mistake. There are 100's of
super lame videos on trying to
convince us that you can use
some kind of Wing Chun move to
get the knife away from a serious
    and skilled attacker, good luck.
I'm sure there are some 9th
    degree black belt masters that
could 'maybe' get the knife way
or block it, but that's 1000's of
    hours of dedicated MA training
that the average 'joe' is never
going to go through, and he probably
    gets stabbed anyway.

Indeed, but remember that the pre-fontal cortex, which is the part of your brain that deals with intelligence and reason shuts down when you're in a fight/flight mode situation (like a knife coming at you). The only tool that will be available to you is your instinct (the limbic part of your brain), so although you use intelligence to learn the techniques, you have to make sure you "write" in your instinct also, so you can have it available to you when the adrenalin kicks in.
