Not only did you manage to stay cool trying to de-escalate but delivered that amount of power under pressure to both of them, you can learn so much from just watching that few seconds, thanks a lot.
Superb. MMA is great for a reciprocal fight, and everyone should train it to some degree, but most "self-defence" is about the pre-fight, and, or a very one-sided response to aggression. Learning how to avoid or manage situations is essential, and needs to be explicitly trained like any other skill.
Fantastic. I think what a lot of people dont consider when it comes to training is that we are avoiding the confrontation altogether. Like he said, it's a matter of controlling space and removing the entanglement. It's crucial to keep your hands in that defensive position while attempting to de-escalate and then utilizing the hips to generate that power when the assailant has essentially helped put you in a more advantageous position. This is honestly some of the most practical Combatives training on TH-cam.
As a long time street fighter from Bosnia we face danger daily and there is rarely a day without a fight when you are growing up. What This man teaches is real stuff that can immensely help any non fighter defend themselves even experienced ones likewise especially when use of firearms is infringed upon and you have armed attacker with a knife etc. Mind is the key! Make sure you go through techniques in your head over again every day like a routine not to forget them and train daily if you can your body. Lift those weights As well trust me in a fight it makes a huge difference. Excellent video my man and taking care of those two a holes outside.!)
5:03 I was not expecting a "live decapitation", but it was nice to learn! You both great partners and teach the real deal with no BS attached. Amazing work for the real world. Once again, I can only admire and congratulate the amazing work you both do!
Well taught. The techniques taught here and by this guy are absolutely correct for urban combat.... It's not like traditional dojo. I have belts. The first day of military combat training you will get destroyed. It's completely different. Well taught. Retired special forces. Combat vet.
You’re a weapon who doesn’t mess around… but I truly loved that gentle touch of your hand on her cheek after the first few examples… you care ☺️ Bravo 🥇 ⚔️
Great stuff. I always had an interest in all martial arts. European/Asian, Historical/modern, weapons/empty hands, firearms/blades. There are a lot similarities between all of them. I love the “simplified” but clever real life offense/defense principles you are teaching. Thank you for sharing this, Michiel. 🙏🏻💪🏼❤️🇳🇱
Many have no idea how tough the human body is, this man hit very hard but the attacker still gets back up. Only those who fight in the streets understand.
This situation show me how uneffectiv is punch attacker on the jaw. They still can stand, walk. They don't go to sleep - and Instructor who punch them is a big, heavy, well trained big man. If someaone like me (who weight 70kg) punch attacker on the face there will be blood, there will be pain but he still be standing and fighting. It seems that boxing is not so good way to save our ass on the street.
Another excellent video Michiel, and I have used that powerful arm deflecting technique a few times. It definitely works, and many aggressors will back down just from that since it shows them that the victim is not messing around.
Following you from Belgium quite a while now….Appreciate very much your motivation and dedication and your no nonsense teaching of self defence… Doing Krav myself, the best techniques are the simplest ones because you lose more than 50% of your means in case of aggression….and that is exactly your message. Keep up your excellent work ! 😎
Very good and logical technique. More than one arm is the rule. If someone gets closer than that you have to react. Me as a grappler can only think of how to get you is (just an mind experiment how to counter this): grab the arm you putting in my direction to make space (almost same technique you use). And work from there. It’s a common thing to do in judo for example, if the opponent don’t want to give you the collar in first place you take his wrist. There are some throws you can do from there. I know guys who can do foot sweeps with one arm from there without that you even notice or have even time to react (even as a experienced grappler). Also leg grap‘s are maybe possible. But the thing is, that is very difficult and most people who make trouble on the streets won’t know how to counter such a technique.
Nice demo. I would add most viewers are not trained fighters. If they try this they will be too slow (due to hesitancy) and inaccurate using the palm of hand (rather than larger forearm) for deflection (will miss the arm by 4 inches or so (‘ive seen it often in beginners). So advise to practice the move many times with a buddy. Thank you for your content.
Of course brother..I believe everything should be trained until it becomes ingrained in you. We have to keep it simple. And gross motor…but we still need to train it. Thanks for the kind words.
Thank you sir for giving us another gem💎 Sir could you make a video about how to deal with someone who stand in front of us with boxing stance, someone who already train some boxing.
You are an EXCELLENT instructor, Michiel! As a quick side note, I've been looking at various political insights around the world. It looks like a good time for The Netherlands international courts to GREATLY increase their defensive capabilities using state-of-art, esoteric weapons systems. If you have a friend or contact who can look into this further, I now boldly, cordially ask you to do that. Would you, please?
Good Stuff Sir, Thanks from Florida! PS: I've been training for decades, and married for twenty, your Mrs. moves skillfully. Ping me if you ever want to do a seminar in North FL. We'd be happy to set it up. Friend of mine has a Ju Jitsu school we can use.
Forty years of boxes (Savate, Muay, Panantukan, wing chun), 20 years of security, and the omnipresent question of survival combat, training methods, lead me to say that it takes unity in its practices. That modern methods and systems integrate emotional management to get closer to reality......simple things, the basics of these arts, the choice to puncture what suits you and especially, a unit, a common thread to organize his training......and this unit, this common thread is very often what is lacking in the so-called self-defense methods that combine techniques to the point of getting lost...
I've been involved in Martial Arts for 20+ years now and then transitioned to Combatives after I realized that Combatives has a more efficient and realistic mentality. I say all of that to say that for me, Michiel and Lee are the best Instructors anywhere on the planet right now.
No reason a pretty girl can't handle herself, but a SMART pretty girl can get any man around her (not just her boy friend) to intercede on her behalf. Men love rescue women; take advantage of that fact.
Very similar to boxing. And when you back away instead of straight back to the angle, probably to the right that your right. I like looking at all different kind of stuff I used to box. I’m an old man now 59 lol.
No bullshit, no fancy crap, no fuckin around. Just straight up real street survival. Cheers from this US Combatives (under Matt Larsen, Colton Smith, Tim Kennedy)student! Love your vibe!! 👍👍👍👍👍🤙🤙🤙🤙
Awesome to hear coming from you! You are blessed to train with such legends! I hope to meet Tim Kennedy one day. Absolutely love that dude. Stay safe brother. Thanks for kind message. Hope to shake you hand one day.
The instructor looks cool as an ice cube when fighting. Having said that, and while this instructor offers sound advice, I think that self-defense classes and dealing with different types of aggression should come in *addition* to sports like MMA/Muay Thai, etc. A strong fighting base is the rock upon self-defense should be built.
Thanks for the kind words. Combatives is the condensation of what is left over and works under real fight stress. Easy to install with a compressed tool box with gross motor skills. That’s said..I still want everyone to cross train and spar. Next to the stress testing and scenario training we do
@@schoolofselfprotection Very well said!!! Since I am in the USA, and cannot come to your school in person, do you think Muay Thai, would be the best base training to get started in self defense? Thank you for all the AWESOME TH-cam training!!!
If they throw the right hand, you can lean into the right shoulder, cross block with your left and hit them with a straight right as well. Boxing can work in the street fight. I’ve had it happen a couple of times more than a couple. I’m born again now I’m a Christian so I don’t fight anymore. People start with me but I would hit them. I did not try to walk away.
Probably one of the only self defence videos that show the technique being used by the instructor in real life. Bravo
Absolutely. Zero bullshit every time.
Thanks a lot!
Simplicity is the beauty of this technique. But the underlaying concept as explained and demonstrated is pure GOLD.

Sure, you can defend against it with a kick in the balls
Yes! The element of surprise and use of nails employed in an ballistic way is sometimes available. Knee to the groin has some effect too!
