Woaw we need to send this man to ultimate self defense championship as his approach is totally different than combat sports, quite impressive how will it fare against trained fighters and unrelenting pressure ? This is one the better exchange from Kevin on his great channel
dont know the self defense championships, I need to check it out. If it is trained fighters with unrelenting pressure, it is not self-defence, it is sport. Self defense is about a normal person surviving without major damage from unexpected attacks in uncontrolled and varied situations.
The greatest thing with Alan Baker in my opinion is not his skills or body mechanics, razor sharp as they are, but his ability to flip the switch instantly. Look at his eyes, dude goes full primal and it even takes a while for him to reset to his friendly self.
@Dredd-y6p I understand the point your trying to make but they're talking about legality in TRAINING, not the fight. Positioning during the escalation phase is completely realistic and something you should absolutely train. In self defense you need to use situational awareness to prepare yourself to act. In combat sports you train to position yourself and open up gaps in your opponents defenses. They're two applications of the same principle. You will do in a fight what you train in the gym and that's EXACTLY the time to think about legality. You should be training for what you expect to need in the situation you'd use it in. Legality is important in sports fighting and self defense and that's not even debatable.
If flailing limbs in defensive posture can be proved then self defence claims can be validated legally, regardless of the damage caused to the aggressor. The near/clear and present danger aspect (in the scenario of public transport, is also something which needs consideration) the option to move, get off should be considered before any confrontation as it will always come up. "Why didn't you walk away?" However in many instances the aggressor is usually the person who not necessarily initiates but doesnt back down.
Sifu Baker has such intensity of commitment and violence of action once a decision to act is made. He is truly a Master. Thank you for your hard work to bring this content to light
Something tells me this man has done violence out of sheer malicious intent. You can't just flip a switch like that and go from a calm discussion to suddenly look like you're eager to add more bodies to your kill count. Was he a soldier maybe? I wonder if they are useful for the knife scenario, a lot of times it went either well if the opponent got immobilized against a wall or the ground, or if the knife got kicked out of hand so far
the escape challenge to fight against multiple attackers and impact them hard enough or to grapple them into the opposite direction to create space for reaching the line. Till now i wonder, i could not map techniques from these three alone
I've recently found out about this martial art style and i must say: i like it! Being able to fight and control your enemy effectively even when you're in a small, confined space could really save your life in a urban enviroment. If a Keysi student uses other martial arts styles - Karate, BJJ, Muay Thai, Judo, Krav Maga, Wrestling, Boxing, etc - to complement it, it could go a VERY long way. Anyways, my greatest question about this martial art is: How would you defend the lower half of your body?
This is like watching a mad scientist put martial arts into a chair and a wall. The resulting creation is unrecognizable yet amazing in function. It's very interesting, thanks for sharing.
So basically he does like how you would do with a bench press or a chest supported back row where you can move more weight with the support on your back then you could if you were standing like you cannot bench press standing up so you need the base of the bench supporting you and it doesn't move but you can as you're moving the weight but if you try to push a car with the same bench pressing motion you would not be able to because the car is heavier than you you'd be pushing your self away and that's kind of like what I'm understanding what he's saying
The problem with staying seated is, especially if the guy is bigger, he can put his weight on top of you to immobilize you and then pound away. Maybe you get the upper hand early on, but eventually he will find his way on top. I would much prefer to stand up and get into the walkway instead and then I can use my Kenpo for fighting in small places.
Your problem with staying seated is, especially if the guy is bigger, you aren't comfortable with the environment or the opponent. Maybe you get a shot in, but you don't know what you are doing, how to progress any advantage you may gain, or how to finish the fight before it gets worse, so eventually he will get on top. You would much prefer to stand up and get away because Kenpo is what you are familiar with. That, is where you know what you are doing. Just because you are familiar with something does not make it the best option for the moment. Lots of BJJ guys are dumbfounded when the opponent simply refuses to wrestle with them on the ground. Lots of Boxers are terrified of getting on the ground. Lots of Krav Maga guys don't do well when they are forced to trade shots in standup striking. Lots of karate guys freak out when they are tackled. Plenty of Muy Thai fighters crumple under a wrestler's leg pressure... and on and on. It's easy to be critical of something foreign and reason that you know better simply because you know SOMETHING in your own element, and turns out that is what most people do.
