    I actually like that things get easier as you become more powerful. Made me feel like my Tech-Priests really improved over the coarse of the game. Plus the game is not very long time wise. Which is a good thing for people with limited time.

  • @Hughzaa9
    @Hughzaa9 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Glad they've added more difficulty options. I played at launch when I don't think there were ANY difficulty options, and as you might expect the game got stupidly easy once my Tech Priests had a few levels.
    The visual and sound design in this game is incredible, so I'm happy to see it reaching more people and in a better state to show them some of the awesomeness that 40K has to offer.

    I like the 'Glyph' mechanic you encountered when exploring tombs. Your on an alien planet and your present with 2 or 3 choices of glyphs but you don't know what they do because they are in 'necron code', if you will. It might be to rng for others but I found the risk/reward fair enough for the rng.

    I jumped in to the highest difficulty on my first playthrough. I tend to do a single playthrough on most TRPG's these days so figured I'd give myself a challenge right from the start. Mechanicus wasn't that hard once I figured out the systems, I just had to think very hard about each move. Found out early it's not a good idea to rush mission objectives as half the time the objective then changes and now you gotta fight all the enemies you left alone along with a bunch of reinforcements.

    I don't know how I've managed to miss out on the Warhammer 40k universe these past view decades. Recently wanted Angel's of Death on TH-cam, and was hooked. Then found this gem of a game. It's really awesome from a gameplay, tactical, team building perspective. And if you like 40k at all, it makes it even better.

    I haven’t played this game in 3 years but I recall that, by the end, your characters had equipment and canticles that could generate so many cognitive points (CP) that you could clear the entire map in one turn. There were also weapons that were weak but required no CP to use, which were good at mopping up weakened foes.
    I heard that the game has gone through some balance patches since, but it sounds like the challenge in the latter half is still trivial. Nevertheless, I have a fondness for the game, as it belongs to one of my favourite genres (tactical turn based RPG/strategy) and, being the only 40K title (to date) to focus on the cogboys, is a unique entry in the 40K oeuvre. It was refreshing to have all the exotic energy weapons and equipment of the Mechanicus at your disposal, rather than the same old Astartes or Imperial Guard gear.

    • @ataridc
      @ataridc ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a big fan of the game, and I thought it was super hard at first, but as soon as you know what skill tree to go down to get tons of CP (why is this abbrevation in every game?) it does kind of trivialize the game.

    • @mrTannu666
      @mrTannu666 ปีที่แล้ว

      The CP problem is like a double edged sword. If you nerf it too much then you can't use all the cool toys and fun combos but the Necrons are just not equipped to deal with that much power.

    I play this game pretty much daily and have beat it numerous times and at this point I just play for fun and cause I am a mechanicus :fanboi: I will say some of the my favorites about it are the soundtrack and the overall sounds are some of the best I have ever heard, especially the intro. I would say it's also pretty immersive and easy to get into and if it gets too easy which eventually it will you can tweak the difficulty alot. I do wish that they built on the story some more, they dropped a DLC for it where you fight some renegade mechanicus who have taken over parts of the ship which is pretty fun but yea it's immersive but short. I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes 40k especially mechanicus.

    I splurged and bought a few games on the sales, Circus Electrique, roguebook, wrath of the righteous season pass, stranger of paradise final fantasy origin (awesome combat, really just scratches a class grind and loot system), shenmue 1&2 bundle and finally the stanley parable ultra deluxe which I am greatly enjoying. Had me in stitches when the narrator was mocking me for staying in the employee lounge. Time to watch this video!

    • @grey_wulf

      @c14dude In your opinion, is Stranger of Paradise fun playing solo?

    • @rofflesvanwagon
      @rofflesvanwagon ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @greywolf2927 I've been playing mainly solo (only 1 coop session) and I've been enjoying it greatly. It's very much one of those games where you beat a level, then raise the difficulty and beat it again to get better loot. And there is a TON of loot and like 27 or 28 job classes so you're constantly leveling and putting points in to skill trees. The clashing serious themes with the main character ranting about finding chaos is also very unintentionally funny. Though I am interested in the story as all 4 characters don't even know who they are (I'm in the first 15 hours of the game). There's also talk of The world in which you're playing being called dimension 14 and how it's pieces of another world recreated so I am intrigued with the story as I said. But it's the combat that keeps me coming back. Team ninja made a pretty darn tight combat system and you can switch between two classes on the fly in combat. You can also absorb spells and fling them back at enemies. Overall it's much better than I expected but it's also less story focused than past final fantasy games.

    • @Magusman27
      @Magusman27 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The other dimensions are references to other FF games, for example, dimension 10 is Final Fantasy X etc, all the dimensions are based off the settings of the other games.

    • @rofflesvanwagon
      @rofflesvanwagon ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Magusman27 nice. I'm still on the journey begins quest lol. I had to beat the mission to free neon on hard to get better loot drops and that fight took me like 2 hours to beat until I realized I was putting in to much work and could take a breather and let my ai team mates be focused on. The difficulty is just right

    The game made me wish it had more level depth and mission variety. The enemy variety was enough for me but its like playing vanilla xcom2 on flat maps only, gets dull real quick when every mission plays out exactly the same

      I still do not understand why Games workshop have not made a good X-com (2) copy, for a inquisitor game.

    • @Lilybun
      @Lilybun ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@haraldbredsdorff2699 The trpg genre in general is pretty underexplored i feel, every iteration adds like one new thing but sheds half a dozen features off in the process. Even xcom2 which I'd consider a feature rich game of this genre has barebones base building and its rpg elements like equipment management and linear skill trees are laughably shallow.
      For a genre that can accommodate any theming from high fantasy to modern military combat and all the way up to scifi its a shame its all so barebones.

    About the difficulty, I tend to lose interest when I feel I'm no longer challenged. That's exactly what happened in this game in fact. I think it comes down to the fact that the more power my in-game character possess, the less I have to make smart choices as the player (and feel smart, which is addictive).

    i am getting into those kind of games at the moment and i kind of wanted to try out warhammer aswell so this game so far is a perfect fit to me. Some issues i have with finding games in the trpg genre is that i prefer fantasy over scifi or more realistic stuff and thats where warhammer really makes me interested, its like half scifi but its also kind of fantasy and... its such an interesting concept somehow. and right now you can buy a key for mechanicus for just 67 cents, its not even one Euro. at that price id go as far and say: the game is basicly free and for a almost free game, i m really enjoying it, the atmosphere alone is worth it. When the character talk to each other and the bassnote in their voice pressures you and then the music starts kicking... its awesome

    I can honestly say, I just wanted a x2 speed on the game, cause the mechanics took soooooo long to take actions, I mean when you're mid-late game you're just playing to top your opponents, with your skills, and there's at least 2 per mechanics, you waste a lot of time just doing the same things over and over, cause its op. But it does get tedious to watch that, even if its short.

    The hard difficulty just doesn't cut it. you can fairly build a CP-generating build from the start and then nothing really is a treath anymore, the static HP buff or more Necrons doesn't change much. more Necrons even mean you can farm more balckstone to upgrade the Tech Priests and spiral out of control even faster than before the new difficulties. I don't want the game to be extra-hard, just still challenging. There is just no fun in entering a level knowing you will steamroll on any ennemy you face, so after completing it just to see the final boss, i'd say I don't recommend as a TRPG since it just gets boring after the 10 first missions. The only way to prevent that is nerfing yourself by refusing to use some combos or classes, but then it's sad because you basically have to cut yourself out of 30-50% of the class tree and supporting units. Preventing yourself from playing a chunck of the game just to be able to enjoy the game leaves a bitter-sweet taste so bitter you just drop the game.
