I was in the market for a sedan. The BMW i7 is a total length of 212 inches which is a little too long for me since my garage isn’t that deep, so I went with a 2012 Honda Civic instead
I was also considering the i7, along with the new Ghost. The eventual choice was of course a 2003 Sebring
@@jcartledge303 Smart buy. It can't lose any more value.
You can get a core i9 under 700 dollars
Hahahha top joke!
Very good choice 👍🏼
You know you did good job on front end design when your selling point is "it's not that bad on dark color car"
And he is right, its not that bad on a darker car but it certainly isnt beautiful compared to the previous gen 😅😅
Exactly 👌😂
They stole the front end clip off the 5th gen Jeep Cherokee
@@KniteTime yeah seems like it
It's not beautiful, but it's not ugly.
It's interesting.
I love the features and tech in this car but I can’t imagine this thing after 10 years. So many damn sensors and screens must cost a fortune when one goes out.
As the owner of a loaded 5 series bought new and kept in pristine condition with low mileage, I’d ask you to imagine it after 3 years not 10. While I know some will say, people with the money to buy the i7 don’t worry about it falling apart in short order, I do wonder why those same people will, say, screw employees, tradespeople, lawyers, etc to save a buck or 1 million but happily fork out a king’s ransom for a car that breaks 5 minutes after they drive it off the lot.
@@antipodeanwizard1632 I like BMW but it seems apparent why the resale is so terribly low on them.
Way too over engineered
Imagine if you wreck it and they fix it. I can't imagine it would ever be the same. Seems like you would always have some type of electronic problem.
This will be the norm for everything in 2 years you don’t wanna know what 10 years hold if we ever even see that amount of time
This whole car is next level, and then you see the GUI of the back seat passengers and you wonder why they hired a graphic designer from 2010 to design the menu
Honestly don't see the appeal of the mini smartphones they put onto the side. You know passengers are just going to prefer using their smartphone to control all this stuff.
I like it, 2010 design is a lot more interesting than boring flat design from today
In automotive engineering, things move slow, I would not be surprised if the GUI is 5 years old at this point.
Looked pretty OK. Easy to use touch and still decent resolution. Any time BMW choose simplicity in design they should be credited. It's not like them any more.
What was that criminal climate control UI? Why are the door locks capacitive buttons but the window switches physical buttons? This looks like a half-baked 2005 hot mess of design. Wouldn’t drive it for free.
Can you imagine buying a new 7 series and in the car camera gallery there's Doug DeMuro smiling at you.
I can't imagine buying a new 7-Series and it looks like every paint inspector was on vacation. They completely forgot to polish the paint.

@@bwofficial1776 huh? This one has a matte grey paint. It won't be polished or shiny.

Doug, could you incorporate drive by footage of the vehicles? I love seeing them on the road from an outside perspective. Great video btw, per usual!!
He won't. He never does what subscribers ask.
He actually used to do this quite commonly in his old videos from like 2016 and 2017. I don’t know why he stopped. But that’s when he did his different format prior to the dougscore
@@carycoller3140exactly he never gives the audience what they want and that is why he has such a big audience and why we watch him! Wait
@erik3371 For sure I wasn't criticizing. Just stating a well known fact.
@@carycoller3140 and I agreed with you and stated the same?
I am a big fan of the new 7 series, the technology is insanely impressive. I think it looks much better than the last post LCI model and the interior is gorgeous
Doug's choice of Avril Lavigne - Complicated for displaying the door screen 🤣
The moment the rear movie screen folded down there was a show "wasting money" or something like that!
Glad we caught this 😅
That's quirks and features of his videos :D
Never expected to come to an era where cars look and feel more and more like smartphones.
Normally I hate all the screens in cars, but it sort of makes sense for an EV... When you are stuck charging you can mess around with the car.
Thank Tesla
It was never OK to have pocket phones that can do more than a 6-figure car. About time car makers stepped it up.
And before anyone mentions Tesla, they are LAME in terms of tech use in their cars, so much left on the table there. For instance with the main screen interface. Music players in the 80s had optional skins. Tesla didn't chance in 10 years, often takes steps back.
Smarter cars are the perfect "vehicle" for in car subscriptions and apps. Manufacturers are gonna make so much money off this stuff :(
Yeah…you’ll also want to dump them every 2-3 years like a smart phone too when all the crap starts breaking or becoming outdated and glitchy😂
I think that augmented reality thing is something that’s plausible in the future of cars. Imagine if something like that could project on your windshield like current day HUDs. It would be like a video game
Or you could just look out the windscreen at the real world.
Doug is the type of guy who will carry on a conversation with the BMW voice.
Side profiles, especially the doors, roof and the overall body silhouette takes volumes of inspiration from Rolls Royce.
And that's why I don't get why people say they think the exterior is ugly. Sure the front grill doesn't look as nice as a RR but the silhouette is beautiful. I agree with Doug I think it looks appropriately big and stately.
Yeah I see it 😳
The headlights configuration and big grille look eerily similar to the newly-announced Rolls Royce Spectre too!
7 Series basically is an RR, same platform and engines
Bmw owns RR
Having owned a couple older 7 series cars in the past I cant imagine how fast this will depreciate after warranty and with how niche all these parts are, I cant imagine how expensive and hard to get the parts will be to fix this. Seems like it will just be disposable after 10 years.
Literally a giant disposable camera haha
I hope in tens you have another car instead of the i7 🤣🤣 glad you know the future and things change my friend stop living in the past
That’s part of the flex with these cars - you’d only buy one if you do not care what they cost to operate or what the residual value is.
@@BrettLevin4096 I get but all cars do but at the same time you are using them so it’s ok for I have the s class new on they have a million updates ect and issues and they will depreciate if I where to be worry about that I be looking for car that don’t deprecate I think Bmw for the first time surpass the s class with its tech and we gotta give them there credit look at the Range Rover the worst car to get new deprecates so much but people still want new
Yeah no one will ever touch this thing in 10 years. All of them are headed to the scrapyard.
BMW took it up a level with this car
Finally can compete with S class and maybach. Been asking for this for years.
@@Wicked_RotF30 i7 surpasses them

The oversized BMW grille kind of works on big cars like the 7 series and X5/7… I see it and it reminds me of how Rolls Royces and Bentleys have large grilles, which is most likely the intention.
Definitely. They sell them with 2 tone coach style paint jobs just like the rolls. Looks amazing too. Mercedes is doing the same.
Rolls royce is BMW btw, so Yeah I can see that.

I think power doors that need a suite of sensors to open and take longer than just opening a door with your hands like a normal human are the perfect analogy of what's wrong with the car industry today. And before I get called a boomer I'm only 27 😩.
Edit: i take that back, this whole car is everything I hate about the modern car industry
Couldn't agree more!
It’s a high end executive sedan?, that’s what they’ve always been about. A bunch of features the customer can show off to the neighbors and clientele and then break after it’s out of warranty and owned by a clueless sap
I like the Body Style of this BMW. Everything else about it would piss me off to the point of not wanting to drive it... If I could afford it. Big Money Waster lives up to its name lol.
Absolutely. And considering this is a BMW, all of these will be in the scrap by the time the 2nd owner is done with it. You could at least try and sort out the electronics in the older ones but no one will even come close to touching this lol.
couldn't agree more too..man am really shocked at what am seeing..
Favorite quirk without a doubt is the hazard light indicator on the jagged dash panel. Super sick!
🎉Congrats Gille !
It is absolutely insane that one car company was able to made its entire model lineup unbearable to look at. That's unprecedented. Even SsangYong wasn't able to achieve this. Citroen is trying really hard too nowadays, but they just can't keep up with BMW.
I absolutely love all the new BMW's designs. But they really do split the public in half, you either love it or hate it.
@@raidzor5452 I'm not sure it's "half". I think it's you, the BMW designer then literally everyone else on the planet.
I found all new designs are aggressive and gorgeous. They are making something unique and gorgeous. That's why BMW is always number one.
I think it looks STUNNING!! Very distinctive among the streamlined majority all the companies produce these days. Very smart move on the BMW part. I get that the design is very polarizing, but some would LOVE it instead of just LIKE it.
Thank God they kept the V8 4.4.
Love this great content. I was wondering what camera and lens are you using?
I bought the gas model (760i) about a month ago and I just love it! At first, I wasn't sure about the grill, but it's grown on me. I got the crystal headlamps as well and if you're going to buy one of these, it's a must have (they're so pretty). The exterior is really nice but what sets this car apart is the interior. My previous car was a 2017 750i and this is just light years beyond that. I loved my 750i when I bought it, but BMW has really stepped up their game. I went to the dealership anticipating on purchasing the Mercedes S class, but once I compared both, there was no way I wasn't going to buy the BMW. It's just a beautiful car. The TV in the back is my only real criticism. It's very nice for the passengers in the back but I don't like how it blocks the rear-view mirror. I tend to use that a lot more than my side mirrors and when the TV is down, you can't see anything out of the back. I would like in a software update for the rear camera to enable when the TV is down so the driver can easily see out of the back while driving. One other thing is the vent system. I personally like the air blowing cold right at me during the summer but without the full vents, you really don't get that anymore. It still cools the car, but I really like feeling the air on my face and you don't get that sensation with this design. Still, I give it a solid 9.5/10. Best car I've ever owned!
Completely agree, the crystal headlights are a must have! I work at a BMW dealership, I have a remedy for you that might help. Down on the center console there’s a little “P” button with a camera on it as well, press that while driving & it’ll enable the rear-parking camera even if you’re driving forwards. Now you’ll be able to see out of the back with the TV down.
How are you so Ruch
@@PrankingThat I didn't know. I'll have to try that next time. Still, they should make it automatically enable when the TV is down, but this is good to know. Thanks

I was curious to watch this having just purchased an I4. Little thing likes the extra sensors, heated back seats, extra entertainment in the back, more phone pairing seems like it would be nice. But I'm fine with my I4 EDrive 40. I have to say the new I series from what I am reading and experiencing knocked it out out of the park. The hidden thing I either glossed over or did not catch was the range is higher than I was expecting. I do mostly city only driving and find myself only charging my car at home every once a week or so. That is a pleasant surprise. And that is me using comfort mode and heating the cabin and everything. The algorithms BMW uses are more for you driving since deliver, or last charge, or a trip. So it's smart enough to tailor it to show you what you will get with a full charge based on your habits over all. Seems like electric is the future and BMW's new I series are doing great.
Thanks for the great overview. I can see myself having a date in this beauty 😬
I personally prefer the way the new 7-Series looks compared to the EQS. It definitely looks more stately than the EQS and it kind of reminds me of the 2002-2008 7-Series from the side. Of course, the controversial design queues are subdued if you get the car in a dark color and the example Doug reviewed looks pretty badass.
That’s like giving one sibling a complement on their looks by comparing them to an even uglier sibling 😂
@SYED RIPEJ h. H. H.
EQS 580 is faster, has better ride quality, better fit/finish, better breaking/handling, better infotainment and better sound system, better ambient lighting.. I've driven both of these, no competition.
@@danielmiller9012 You can have your opinion, and I have my opinion. My opinion is that I believe the new 7-Series is far more interesting than the EQS in every way. Besides, the primary intention of both of these sedans is luxury over performance.
How do you think it compares to the last 7 series, the one with the good looking kidney grills?
If you think this one looks better, can you answer me one question and please take no offense by it, it’s not racist!
Are you of Asian, or middle eastern ancestry?
Those are the markets this new look is designed for, especially the Chinese market.
Europeans, Americans and especially Germans absolutely hate this design, even the people working for the manufacturers (often even people from the design departments..)

Provided that they still work.
And imagine the trolling you can do. You can teach the car to, as an example, open the window when you're at a certain location (entrance parking garage or something). The amount of trolling you can build in to it whenever someone else drives it, is endless.. 🙂

how is it the best, is probably the worse car review ever, this guy does not know anything about cars even less about EVs he barely spoke about anything that matters.
@@navsofour2892 Like what for example?
That's the MC12 Doug posted on his Instagram few days ago.
Doug speaking of the quirks and features gets him a org##m for sure 😂😂 … definitely one of the best car reviewers 💪🏼👌🏻
Wasn't sure between and 2022 i7 or phantom.
Already have an older i7 so might try the ryzen 7000 series for my next pc
Nice joke🤯
One thing I am sure of......in my dreams. 😆😆😆😆
Good comedy
I love watching Doug,
does anyone find they can’t stop watching him?
Same
Yes, he's a cutie
I am sensitive to laggy displays, so those door-panels is better if they remove . other than that it looks like a really impressive car.
Strongly agree! Almost all modern cars stuff their interiors full of screens that end up looking like glued 12 year old android tablets.
I wanna say that BMW has really nailed the i7 and 7 series. If you ask me I think this car may have just dethroned the Mercedes S class which used to be the king of the hill for decades. Can't believe I'm saying this but I'd take the 7 series over the S class any day! Although I still have a gripe with automakers not putting frunks in their EVs! I don't know about the focus groups that they have, but for me, the frunk in my model 3 really comes in clutch sometimes!
It did. I went to the dealership to buy the S class but decided to compare it to the new 760i. Once I did that, I drove off in the 7 series. The S class has been my dream car for 20 years. I have always wanted one and have always ended up in a 7 series, oddly enough. But this time I was absolutely determined that I would buy the S class...BMW won me over again.
I’m not a screen hater. With all the new features, you need a multipurpose screen to fit all the options. But climate control, seat adjustment and basic stereo controls should absolutely remain as physical buttons and knobs. I don’t want to have to scroll through 5 menus to turn down the volume because my Pandora went from Smoke On The Water to I Cum Blood.
What would it take to get a 10 in features??
The car has to double as a spaceship.
He's given Rolls Royces and a few other cars 10s for features. Maybe his standard is getting higher because cars in general are packing more features.
Can you still open a glove box when a car is not on? Or do I have to turn the corn just to open the glove box?
You know shit went crazy behind the scenes when Doug had Avril Lavigne - Complicated playing in the background lol 4:35
BMW engineers in the meeting room: "let's pack as many gimmicks that are guaranteed to break as possible!"
they have kids to feed too
You're obviously not the target market for this car, this is a LUXURY car gimmicks are pretty much necessary
@@ikhoonyejelem2967 ah yes because capacitive touch pads and burying the climate controls in a screen is definitely luxurious 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@ikhoonyejelem2967 oooooh LUXURY
This is the kind of car you have to watch Doug review. Other journalists skim over all of the details that make this car interesting.
I never thought I’d say BMW have reinvented the car wow
How many things can break in this car?
BMW Engineers: YES
20 years ago we had the 2003 7 series with the revolutionary bangle butt design. BMW gets frisky from time to time and I think it’s needed to shake up the industry.
Its like a concept car come to real life, tech is totally cool. Love the crystals and triangles, not sure why, but I like them. The fold down screen is inspired and wonderful, and the touch screen rear door controls, fab idea. Totally dig this car
pimp my ride concepts coming to life in the modern age lol
And it will be in a scrapyard within 10 years once it’s out of warranty and everything starts breaking. Plus it’s ugly as shit
the crystals look tachy and this much tech has no place in a car
@@theboogeyman5736 Nah, I bought one and the crystals add so much sophistication to the car. While driving you get these little glisten effects, and it just feels so luxurious. I'm loving it.
@@LordFirestaff are you Chinese?
a poster at the local Lexus dealer stated "if you park your can, and don't look back when you walk away, you're driving the wrong car".
with this front-end I would park the i7 at the darkest spot available and never look back.
as beautiful as this car is, just watching you detail all those “touch bar buttons” just makes me imagine the nightmare of a headache they will cause if one goes out. one thing i love about my 2011 5 series is the button layout and knob that is available. sad to see that manufacturers think the new way is touchscreens and touch bars. think about the mac book with the touch bar lol. after about a year they were basically useless and had a lot of issues not allowing people to use buttons
As somebody who worked intensifely on that car in its engineering process, i am kinda proud, seeing this video. :)
One thing Doug missed about the doors is, that you can choose a setting where the driver door will automatically open if you come near the car and also close it again while leaving your car. It will also close the door for you, when you get in the car and press the brakepedal.
Looks aside, this is an incredible plattform and it was a thrill working on it aswell as driving it for thousands of kilometers already!
What about the new 5 series though?
Can you please have a “M” addon where you can opt in to get the halo lights, these new ones look hideous
@@mrdouche9172 Well, i´ve driven the new 5 series for about 2000km and i can tell you, that it is a great car and an absolute upgrade to the car you can buy right now. Due to compliance and an NDA i signed, i won't and cant tell you any more than that. Be patient though! The wait is almost over! :)
@@SgtAggression What about the X5? Do you know when the X5 with idrive8 will be released? I don't want to order the current one with idrive7.
@@elevul i do know, but i cant tell you, also due to compliance constraints and an NDA i signed. I am sorry! But i can tell you that there are a bunch of spy-shots and videos about X5 prototypes floating around the internet and youtube aswell...sooo...
