  • The 2023 BMW i7 xDrive60 ($194,200 as specced in Canada, $151,600 in the US) is the fully electric variant of the brand new 7 series lineup. Aiming to be a supremely luxurious and tech’d out experience, the new 7 series is available with a massive 31 inch entertainment screen for the rear passengers. Coupled with the optional Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, the i7 could be mistaken for a portable movie theater.
    It also boasts a commendable 536 horsepower and 549 lb ft of torque from a dual motor setup, and has rear-wheel steering to boot. But does the level of luxury and tech match the hefty price tag? And how does it compare to its competition? Thomas and James share their thoughts! We hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for watching. SUBSCRIBE!

    As a BMW technician who did the PDI for an ICE version of this car, I can attest to the automatic doors being highly unpredictable. I messed with them for 5 minutes and couldn't figure it out. The inside buttons work fine, but I never even got the outside buttons to open the door all the way. Wasn't able to read the manual, though. That's in a sealed bag for the customer to open, but I wouldn't be surprised if it just said, "see dealer."

    I was a big-time critic of this vehicle a few months ago, but then I went to buy a new S class and the dealership happened to have a new 760i in stock. I compared the two and fell in love with the 760i. It made the S class feel like a little old ladies' car. The exterior looks mean and sporty which I just love. The interior though is so plush, well thought out and superbly designed. I bought the 760i. My only real complaints are:
    1. The dropdown TV. Though I love it, I hate not seeing out of the review while it's down. I feel like when the TV is being used, the rear camera needs to come on so that the driver can easily see what's going on behind him/her.
    2. The air vents. Though I like the clean lines on the dash, I miss not feeling the intense blowing of the air vents. Living in South Texas, it gets quite hot during the summer. Sometimes you really want to feel the air blowing on you and hard. It does still cool the car but personally, I would prefer bigger air vents.
    All in all, this is the best car I've ever owned.

    Your discussion on perception of EV drivetrains and luxury cars, with traditional association of ICE engines was very insightful. With such a drastic change in powertrains, we have to reexamine our preconceived notions and pay attention to previous biases. Additionally, I fully agree with your definition of luxury, but I also understand others may define luxury as access to a lot of technology above all. Others want the smell of rich mahogany and bourbon. But for me, it's ease of use with quite and comfort. Literally relaxes me when I get in. Thanks for the nuanced and insightful review

    Love the review as always. I'll never be cross-shopping this car, but my God it has to be the best example of the worst elements of modern car design. It's all style and tech over substance, designed to fail, designed to be obsolete in 2 years, designed by a committee of blind computer engineers, altogether waiting to end up in a junkyard when the first owner's lease is up.

    • @LanguagesWithAndrew
      @LanguagesWithAndrew ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I couldn't have said it better. Also, it's actually dangerous in some ways (emergency buttons that are haptic, stupid pop-out door handles that *will* break and prevent the owner from being able to enter their vehicle).

    • @tbh1444
      @tbh1444 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LanguagesWithAndrew Right? Where I live in the north, self opening and self closing doors would be an absolute hazard. Imagine having to not only clear your windows to drive after a snowstorm, but also having to chip out your doors because the self openers are too weak to break the ice. I swear, every EV is designed only for people living south of the 42nd parallel.

    • @Fc-cb3tn
      @Fc-cb3tn ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Too true. As far as I'm concerned, the only piece of tech that properly serves a purpose is that driver display (uglier than the last generation but more practical and more customization) and that rear television, everything else is just a gimmick and possibly dangerous (auto doors, touch climate controls). It gives me the impression that people who do car interiors these days have never actually driven a car before, so they throw all kinds of tech in hopes that something would suit the customer's needs.

    About that hazard lights spot (?) - Is it always visible or only when you wave your hand or wand over it?
    I completely agree that the hazard should be a button you can feel. I live in a more northern climate in western Canada (aka we get snow) and I have been stuck behind slow vehicles on iffy roads and/or limited visibility. The last thing I want to do is take my eyes off the road to find my hazards so I can let following traffic know it's slow going (especially transport trucks or people being overconfident with their trucks 😑)
    Pebbles belong on a beach, not in a paint job. For this kind of money it should have been sent back. IMHO the two-tone on the Toyota Crown you reviewed looked better than on this Beemer and I'm glad you showed the matte black.
    Yes, it is otherwise a pretty nice vehicle with pretty cool toys, but as someone further down commented, a Lucid Air would be my choice (if I won the lottery).
    BTW - I have trained myself to not be eating or drinking anything when watching your intros 😅 And then you guys did the theme section! And the out-tro! Dammit!!! 🤣🤣🤣

    To Thomas's complaint about the hazard lights button, I'll throw mine on if I go over standing water on the highway, there's an animal near the road, etc to hopefully alert drivers behind me there's something to watch out for. The touch screen button would drive me nuts.
    Edit: not that I'll ever own it, don't know that I'd want to own it if I could, but I love that this car doesn't have a gigantic screen at the front of the console like a tesla and other new cars.

This method you won't hate and you won't fall in love, it's just normal design...
      BMW trying to give every car unique personality in design than sharing the design across the lineup, just look how vastly different 2 series to 3 series to 5 series to 7 series, not one looks close to other, XM have design so unique you can spot that it's XM miles away..... This method very risky + costly but gives owner more attraction to the car.....
      Now these designs can be hit or miss, some will love it some will hate it but the ones who love will fall in love with cause it's Unique, hence why since big grill G platform started BMW beat Mercedes in US for first time in sales.......
