I was in the market for a coupe. The Rolls Royce spectre is a total length of 215.5 inches. Which is a little too long for me since my garage isn't that deep, So i went with a 2013 Honda Civic coupe instead.

I love that Rolls have so many physical buttons and dials. Who'd have thought that physical buttons would be considered luxury. Well done car companies, you played yourself.
Luxury is almost always a matter of scarcity; have vs have nots. When touchscreens stopped becoming exotic and started becoming the standard, capitalizing on rich people's nostalgia was a small but powerful play.
@@thebitlot There is probably more to it as Rolls Royce didn’t use more screens when they were less common. For example, screens offer a lot of visual information, but I think they are more laggy than knobs/buttons. And then even if they aren’t I think it’s normal to associate a screen with more lag. This mentally makes a screen seem less luxury feeling as it doesn’t just work and is more complicated. Classic luxury cars weren’t complicated, they were just designed to do what they do well. Also screens lack a tactile experience. I think luxury is mainly about how it makes the customer feel, it’s about quality over quantity. Screens offer quantity more than quality if it comes to using it for driver controls. Also information overload can cause anxiety, maybe that’s a reason they didn’t put temperature numbers on the heating knobs. You don’t need a number to tell you whether you are too warm or too cold, your body would just know.
@@legioner9eh it’s doesn’t bother me that much, RR has always been more about smoothness and torque than having any real connection with the engine. 26:02 one of the main reasons it costs $520,000.00 is not because they used the "best" materials, it is because the people who buy them WANT to pay more than anyone else. It's perceived value. I worked for a cabinet company and they made high end kitchen cabinets. We installed one, $67,000.00. The test cars that RR had of this model were so quiet, that people actually became sick driving them: the interplay between sound/vibration, how our eyes and inner ear perceive movement is a very tricky balancing act and the total absence of a certain level and type of NVH while driving can cause nausea, dizziness etc type issues. RR had to reintroduce certain sounds back into the car (not sure, but believe not all were audible) to fix the issue.

Actually the feature of the radio stations touch panel in 10:40 is a really old one and was used in BMW e90 in 2005. It's a fun little feature in an old car.
When you take a look for all parts of EV story, there are still many challenges like: how will we produce so much electricity, where will mine materials for battery, will people feel comfortable to drive on old car batteries in 10 years, how hard is to recycle or fix old battery. I have feeling gasoline cars will still stay many years in production.
@Ih8GoogleandApple Doug doesn't believe many of us have leather interiors and many of these options in our cars. Doug thinks we drive around in very utilitarian and basic cars.
I like how in the context of so many excellent, high quality videos over the years, his review of one of the most expensive cars in the world has a glitchy mic and dirty camera lens
A 5 year old Wraith in decent condition will set you back a minimum of $200,000. It's highly unlikely you'll find a Spectre for less than that in 2028. EVs are depreciating slower than ICEs.
Basically any other RR Review, but electric and star doors. Identical to Doug's RR reviews. Got me sleepy I know all the lines. To this day they still show us the umbrella and the door 🙌
So many cool things about this car! But I really like the temp-switches! A nice nod to old cars. And the small screen is also really neat! What a cool RR!
Now that automatic climate control has become so common, Rolls-Royce believes that true luxury is not needing to know the exact temperature. Warmer or cooler will suffice.
the thing is: you don't need a gargantuan infotainment screen. I also like the fact that they stuck with buttons instead of putting EVERYTHING in the touch screen with sub menus.
The Power Reserve gauge has been on the Rolls Royce for generations like it's been designed way in advance for this switch to electric powered vehicles. I was drive testing the Dacia Spring the other week (which is one of the cheapest battery powered cars in Europe) and one of the first things I noticed was this same gauge but mirrored, it immediately made me think "well this must be on the opposite side of the spectrum from the RR" 😂 It's a good little car for its purpose though, and it also has "sufficient" power 😅
@@purwantiallan5089 I'm not really in theme with this stuff, the algorithm noticed I was interested in electric cars for a few hours so it gave me this and I watched it for old time sakes :))

Expensive washing machine. More than half a million bucks for an slow, low range car it is just bananas. On the other hand, happy to see an old Doug video style. I have enjoyed very much!
My guess, the people that buy these don't care that much about features, performance, options. They buy it to show people that they can buy it and you can't.
Just like the Rolls Doug delivers on his brand. We are not here for a ultra techy video MKBHD style, but genuinely doug demuro light hearted, spur of the moment video. Brand identity matters.
The sticker price is $500,000. But I would estimate that after the $7,500 tax credit and potential gas savings, its really like a $30,000 Rolls Royce. What a deal!
You gotta have the clock. Even if you don't bother seeing what time it is. It's just such a cool detail. I'd also hire a butler just to to open the door for me all the way.
The rich are the best at hiding/shifting $. If tax is too high here, they'll put their $ elsewhere. And gov gets 0. When u lower tax rates, they come back and there's actually more tax revenue.
Rolls never ever make sense on paper. I had the privilege of driving a 60's era Rolls, and one of the first S-Class's from 89. The S-Class was absolutely beautiful to drive, something which I never thought I would ever top. Until, I drove the Rolls. My God. I have never experienced such a beautiful driving machine. It's just something else, even in a car that was 58 years old at that point, it was just.... next level.
The reason RR chose a coupe as their first E car might be that they didn´t want to hurt the sales of their other models and as a new concept (for RR), if the car turns out to be flawed, the fact that they sell very few of them, won´t hurt the brand or its economy as much as if they had launched halo model that got riddled with issues. That would be my take on it.
Yeah, but it isn't like these will be flying off an assembly line like a Model T. This is basically, say, me walking into an RR dealer, dropping a briefcase with $500K on the counter, and saying, "I wanna buy one of those new electric Spectre coupes." They call the UK and order me one.
Couldn't care less about the V12 being gone. Electric, for better or worse, seems to be the future, and it certainly suits a Rolls-Royce. In my mind the V12 was simply a means to an end, since V12s have always provided supreme torque and unparalleled smoothness, which is exactly what a Rolls-Royce needs. But you know what gives greater torque and even greater smoothness? Electric motors. It's a no-brainer, especially for a Rolls-Royce, where the added weight from a battery pack doesn't matter in the slightest.
Doug is always sporting a new Costco outfit every new episode. It's not about Gucci. It's about basic self-respect and dignity. And why would a nose picker be interested in a Rolls-Royce to begin with? There's a big world in between pretentiously overdressed and a total slob. I think it is called "presentable".
Wow honestly what a wonderful and beautiful piece of machinery built by Rolls-Royce if I had the money, this would definitely be my choice. It is absolutely beautiful and even to see the detail. Even the leather on the dial is just absolutely inspiring
27k views in ONE HOUR. Congrats. I'm one of them. And Doug, thanks for the O'gara rec. When my local dealer was unable to order a certain car, I remembered where you got your review car from, and they were able to order it. It arrives this week!
The amount of price-gouging in this car is insanity. This costs more than my house at BASE PRICE. The fact that people pay just for status despite knowingly being ripped off is wild.
Imagine if they'd used Lucid's platform, how large the frunks of i7 and Spectre would have been. Multiple bug out bags with multiple bespoke suits, workout gear, ski boots just in case, etc, etc. And of course a bag and some refreshments for the driver, we're not evil dictators...yet.
There's something about the piano black trim that I thought was a trend but I'll admit, Rolls-Royce did a fantastic job with the interior design to ensure that the art is crafted with time.

The best part of this video is that it’s not filmed in that awful concrete dungeon.
Doug showing off his nuclear bomb shelter.
Actually the feature of the radio stations touch panel in 10:40 is a really old one and was used in BMW e90 in 2005. It's a fun little feature in an old car.
This vehicle solidifies that electric cars are not purchased for environmental reasons
lol most people buy them to save money, you're being naive if you think you or your neighbour buying electric is saving the earth
The container ships that transport the batteries emits more pollution than my Camry emits in three lifetimes.
At one time that was the reason why people bought them. People have seen its just a better driving and ownership experience.
@@Ethan_Alexandurcontainer ships will be wind aided soon which will reduce their emissions exponentially. Baby steps.
Doug: “That is rich people code. They know what it means..you do Not!”
Best thing I’ve heard all year long.
*Adequate*
That is actually the word Rolls Royce used to describe power. Not 'sufficient.'
Doug: "In YOUR car you'll be lucky enough to have a leather wrapped steering wheel"
When all cars are electric there is nothing left to desire about a brand. I don’t want an all electric lambo or Ferrari!
@Ih8GoogleandApple
Doug doesn't believe many of us have leather interiors and many of these options in our cars. Doug thinks we drive around in very utilitarian and basic cars.

I like how in the context of so many excellent, high quality videos over the years, his review of one of the most expensive cars in the world has a glitchy mic and dirty camera lens
17:36 I was expecting the audible noise to say “Move, peasants.“
Nice car. I'll wait 5 years and buy it used for $60k.
It won't even be worth that.
Nice weed youre on
A 5 year old Wraith in decent condition will set you back a minimum of $200,000. It's highly unlikely you'll find a Spectre for less than that in 2028. EVs are depreciating slower than ICEs.
@@bignosemac1 a 2004 Phantom is still 90,000$
The absolute hilarity of assuming any RR will even remotely deprecate in price to 60,000$ is astounding
It's electric, in a few years it will be worth nothing
The engine sound of 2024 RR SPECTRE is like a Gen 3 Formula E car.😅
@@purwantiallan5089 I'm not really in theme with this stuff, the algorithm noticed I was interested in electric cars for a few hours so it gave me this and I watched it for old time sakes :))
Nice to see you’re still doing your thing Doug. Philly misses you bud
Doug please show us the headlights, rear lights, turn signals and horn of the cars again just like you did in your first videos
I'll never understand why RR elects to use glossy trim as a method of showcasing luxury in their cars. It's so easy to smudge and collect dust. I just dont get it.
The assumption is probably that if you own a RR, you employ people who can keep the interior nice & shiny at all times. Practicality is for the plebs.
You’re awesome man! You got a $520,000 luxury electric car and you’re still yourself. You praise its exterior poetically, but once you get behind the wheel, the real Doug DeMuro, the technical Doug shows up. Great review and great car!
The sound design and music theory behind the forward and reverse sounds are actually brilliant

The rear seats are outfitted with all the possible amenities. However, I reckon that it would be quite challenging to fit comfortably two adults back there
To me it’s for kids. For adults, it’s for very short trips! One thing I noticed is almost zero leg room when he put the drivers seat back!
It's quite beautiful. I was expecting a massive front bay. Are the batteries there? it won't be a good idea in terms of collision safety and cost of repair.
No rolls is really fast. And they all have terrible gas mileage.
@davidfrench5407 indeed I can't :D
Yeah, because all Rolls Royce’s have amazing mileage / MPG figures lol!!!
I love it when Doug talks down to me like a pleb. ❤
so thankful to doug for still making videos you are a gem
@doug they chose the form factor specifically NOT popular. They need representative sample for 1st gen EV, especially warranty/reliability parameters
I was thinking that too. Testing the waters before going all in with a more popular model.
Doug is the type of guy to list all the "free features" on a half a million dollar car.
Just like the Rolls Doug delivers on his brand. We are not here for a ultra techy video MKBHD style, but genuinely doug demuro light hearted, spur of the moment video. Brand identity matters.
This thing should have the Imperial March from Star Wars as the "front sound" when moving slowly, such as under 10mph in a parking lot 😂
Im sure thats an option....for just $10.000.
I wish that the BMW 5 Series would still have the presets 1 to 8 buttons. Unfortunately it is now replaced by the "single" curved screen.
Yep, nasty times we live in. That is why I encourage people to keep their older cars. And to stop buying new crappy ones (most of them are, sadly).
I apreciate how he talks about sound deadening and doesn't mention torque or brakeing distance from 100
Doug is the type of guy to set up an outdoor mic during a hurricane.
The sticker price is $500,000. But I would estimate that after the $7,500 tax credit and potential gas savings, its really like a $30,000 Rolls Royce. What a deal!
lol.
Until you have to replace the batteries 10 years later
@@bananasaur5209 but why would you own the same Rolls-Royce for 10 years?😭

You gotta have the clock. Even if you don't bother seeing what time it is. It's just such a cool detail. I'd also hire a butler just to to open the door for me all the way.
Doug completely skipped over the digital license plate!
Digital license is quite common now. Nothing special
The Starlight Doors extra costs over 13k and there are people out there saying taxing the rich more is morally wrong...
Most of the prices of the options seem to be Rolls Royce just saying "F you" to their customers. Or both of them laughing at us peasants.
Everybody gets a chance to make $. A higher % tax for the rich promotes them to "hide" the money elsewhere. It's counterintuitive.
Huge part of exclusivity was the V12
(Casually drowns in rising sea levels)
Couldn't care less about the V12 being gone. Electric, for better or worse, seems to be the future, and it certainly suits a Rolls-Royce. In my mind the V12 was simply a means to an end, since V12s have always provided supreme torque and unparalleled smoothness, which is exactly what a Rolls-Royce needs. But you know what gives greater torque and even greater smoothness? Electric motors. It's a no-brainer, especially for a Rolls-Royce, where the added weight from a battery pack doesn't matter in the slightest.
Euro 5 emissions regulations put an end to lots of ICE engines, likely the V-12.
@@rapu4 True, it's not like this is a Ferrari.
The 6,75 litre V8 was the exclusive one.
The running of your fingers over the buttons and the buttons being touch sensitive is BMW sourced and I had it on my 2014 3 series.

You'd think they'd have cleaned it inside, knowing it was going to be filmed.
Agreed
Doug is always sporting a new Costco outfit every new episode. It's not about Gucci. It's about basic self-respect and dignity. And why would a nose picker be interested in a Rolls-Royce to begin with? There's a big world in between pretentiously overdressed and a total slob. I think it is called "presentable".
I was about to post this at the top, but I'll do it here. "Doug is the kind of guy who reviews a $525K Rolls wearing $45 worth of clothes."

kind of wild that its all the same stuff from the other models even though this is a new one. You'd think they would have innovated a bit more
It's not really about innovation. They're all about luxury not tech. Besides a lot of the customers are very old, technology would confuse them
