While many people leaned towards the Rolls, I always loved the Maybachs. Something about being somewhat understated and sleeker compared to the upright Rolls.
Well, the Maybach demolished the Rolls-Royce in every way possible, except the design in the sense that both are beautiful in their own way. But in terms of engine power, speed, features, the Maybach was ahead of Rolls-Royce, I think the 57S beats even the newer models from RR, at least in the department of speed and design (for me at least).
From what I get from some reviews, the Maybach was better than Rolls-Royce at being a driver's car but also at being a passenger's car, the maybach 62's rear seats were better than even the ewb phantom, and both of the maybach's had better head room for the back
@@Fifthcell these luxury cars have deprecated in value super fast. Look at some of the Japanese cars from the 90’s like the Supra’s and Mazda’s going for what this maybach is going for. They keep going up in value. Crazy.
You can get the 57 version without the separate Fond for around 40k€, but the cheapest 62 with the fond wall etc in Germany is 100k. And that one doesn’t have all the options Dougies version has, it lacks the amazing sunroof and the shades for the fond windows. If you want all that you still pay around 150k€ (which is around 180k$ or so I think), which is still stupid money for such an old car. But if you want that much privacy, I guess that’s what you need to pay. If you can get one with all that options for under 50k$ in the US, I want one! I’ll let my wife drive me around every day, haha.
For that price, it should have ballistic panels and glass all the way around. In the front cabin where the old phone popped out, now a pop out with a Glock 19.
Yeah, I agree. More than that, Doug says Maybach was a failure due to be too similar to MB. Which is ironic with todays market, as any MB-Maybach now looks just like another S class. Cannot tell, unless you see an MM emblem on it. To be honest, I think only MB S600 Pullman can compete with this 62 Maybach. Let's not forget 57, 62, 57s, 62s, Zeppelin, Landaulet and two door Xenatec. (edit: I also forgot the mighty Exelero)
@WheresPaul#1981 and losing a shitload amount of money even at full price, there was a report stating mercedes was losing 400k on each maybach they sold, multiply that by the 3000 made and that's a loss of 1.2 BILLION dollars
They'll get away with it if they just simply create a Mercedes 600 successor instead of reviving the brand that no one born after world war 2 ever heard of it
The 2000's Maybach [especially the 57, which is somewhat better proportioned than the 62] is one of the best looking ultra luxury cars ever, I reckon. It gave a lot of design cues to the contemporary Merc S class and various other car makers.
If I purchased this specific example, the cheesy license plate with the incorrect pronunciation would be the first thing to go. Bach like the musician, not bok like a chicken.
It truly does. I can't understand why is it so hard for them to pronounce german words since they have simple rules and you can only read german one way
Imagine this being used as a getaway car, heist crew runs out the bank doors, jumps into back seat, pulls door switch, 3 minutes pass, door still not fully closed, police bust, the end.
Doug- “this car is extremely quiet and you can’t hear the engine being turned on” Also Doug - talk throughout the entire demonstration of its quietness
It's a subtle way of telling the driver that he failed at anticipating your needs and he needs to be more observant and close the sunshade in advance next time.

But in terms of engine power, speed, features, the Maybach was ahead of Rolls-Royce, I think the 57S beats even the newer models from RR, at least in the department of speed and design (for me at least).
Sadly, the brand didn't survive.
From what I get from some reviews, the Maybach was better than Rolls-Royce at being a driver's car but also at being a passenger's car, the maybach 62's rear seats were better than even the ewb phantom, and both of the maybach's had better head room for the back
Yes.... but too similar to the S-class...
I love that Doug has remained faithful to his original content as well as not doing Ad reads throughout the video... or any 3rd party ad reads at all.

The sunroof was a 50k option??? You can buy this car for less than that option now lol
Crazy that a 500k car is worth under 50k now lol
@@rolux4853 There is one with that cool sunroof for 45k in the UK

I like the way Doug is always excited when he's reviewing these cars
For that price, it should have ballistic panels and glass all the way around. In the front cabin where the old phone popped out, now a pop out with a Glock 19.
This Maybach is 1000% more better than today's Maybachs, with way more luxury features and an original design!
It looks shitty from the outside. Like an old s class.
Is only an brand over an mercedes
@WheresPaul#1981 and losing a shitload amount of money even at full price, there was a report stating mercedes was losing 400k on each maybach they sold, multiply that by the 3000 made and that's a loss of 1.2 BILLION dollars
Yeah you're making an apples to oranges comparison here. These newer cars aren't a short limo. Big differences here.
*For 2020-21 Mercedes needs to bring back the 57 & 62 S Maybach models.* 😀👍
Yeah, and they'll come with masks with the Maybach logo embroidered into them. Cuz of Covid.
Since W222 S-class, Maybach becomes a luxury trim level instead of separate brand, as explained by doug himself in terms of styling
they might have got away with the styling if the had have called it a merc 600 grosser
They'll get away with it if they just simply create a Mercedes 600 successor instead of reviving the brand that no one born after world war 2 ever heard of it
Why do I see you everywhere?
Don’t let Hoovie see this or he’ll start asking for parts...

Hoovie would take the steering wheel for his old S class
@@nikoanton8533 pffff imagine using a maybach steering wheel on a maybach🥴
The 2000's Maybach [especially the 57, which is somewhat better proportioned than the 62] is one of the best looking ultra luxury cars ever, I reckon. It gave a lot of design cues to the contemporary Merc S class and various other car makers.
Me as a a German hearing him pronounce every version of maybach wrong hurts me on a deep level
He was so sure about the "right" pronunciation and I was like... Nope, that's still not it
How is it pronounced then?
If I purchased this specific example, the cheesy license plate with the incorrect pronunciation would be the first thing to go. Bach like the musician, not bok like a chicken.
It truly does. I can't understand why is it so hard for them to pronounce german words since they have simple rules and you can only read german one way

Doug- “this car is extremely quiet and you can’t hear the engine being turned on”
Also Doug - talk throughout the entire demonstration of its quietness
i feel like ringing up your driver to tell them to close the sunshade is a lot more work than just pushing a button next to you
It's a subtle way of telling the driver that he failed at anticipating your needs and he needs to be more observant and close the sunshade in advance next time.
