      So people only complain about door handles and other electronic buttons in cars, but never complain about electronic button inside something like elevators or people's houses?

    • @ztpgarage5352
      @ztpgarage5352 ปีที่แล้ว +113

      @@automation7295 honestly, it’s not even the button. It’s the fact you have to grab somewhere else, especially on the rear door on the body. With a door handle I don’t have to worry about prints or scratches. And buttons do fail, where door handles in my experience don’t.

    • @watchreport
      @watchreport ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @@ztpgarage5352 they complicated it just to be different. They could have done push handles where the handle pushes out when you tap on it or when you get close with key fob like so many others, but they did different and complicated to try and stand out and in my opinion they failed miserably.
      If anything they should have removed the handle altogether and just had the doors open with the key fob and then you grab it from the inside and pull it open. Still stupid but better then how they implemented it.

      Same, I don't get how adding an extra step to opening doors or the glove box is considered a luxury. Hopefully it's a trend that dies out or at least stays in the high end market.

  • @karuso58
    @karuso58 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    I just wanted to point out (for those unaware) is that the thinking/reason for an electronic button for the glove box is that when you put your car in "Valet Mode" for valet parking, it prevents valets from rifling through your glove box. I have a 2016 Cadillac ELR (which also does not have a manual button for the globe box). When you put the car in "Valet Mode", it also locks out certain functions of the infotainment as well as the glove box. It also keeps you from opening the trunk.

    • @lamenamethefirst
      @lamenamethefirst ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Here's an idea. We could put a revolutionary new technology on glove boxes called a lock, which when used can only be opened with something called a key. Oh wait. I just find is silly that their idea of safety and privacy for the 10% of the time it'll be used by a valet, is to also make things more difficult for the owner 90% of the time. There's an easier way. Everything doesn't have to be shoved into the infotainment system. The concept of valet keys already exist. Just program the valet key to be able to only start the car and have limited functionality. Just like the doors are radio controlled and unlocked by the presence of the car key, so can the glove box. Problem solved.

      The sales they gain by selling to Californians who think that feature is cool heavily outweigh the very few sales they're losing in Ohio. I'm sorry to say but manufacturers don't care about any state outside of Cali, Oregon, Washington and Texas when it comes to EVs. They lose 90% of their range in the cold weather anyways, I doubt door poppers are your main problem.
      That being said, I agree they're dumb. Tech for the sake of tech is never good for overall design, and I hope this trend doesn't trickle down to cars that aren't flashy flagships

I just feel that with EVs in particular, there's been too much focus on putting technology where it doesn't need to be. A good example of that is an electronic opener for the glovebox. That's just a solution looking for a problem and there's a lot of that going on with cars today. I'm more of a fan of something like the Mercedes EQB. As per my theory, it might be a substitute for the lockable glove box back in the days when keys used to be a thing. Now with more and more cars going keyless, more manufacturers are integrating glove box openers in the screens so they can't be accessed without the key in the car. Just a way to integrate lockable storage inside the car without the use of keys.
