“Loneliness has followed me my whole life, everywhere. In bars, in cars, sidewalks, stores, everywhere. There's no escape. I'm God's lonely man.” - Travis Bickle
So he's lonely, yet always in the company of loneliness.
th-cam.com/video/J9PCcx7i4xQ/w-d-xo.html 😎
Lord knows what happened to Travis in his past life. Only the music can tell.
me too
goosebumps!
- I hear this music all day long. Anytime, anywhere.
- Even in the bathroom?
- Anytime, anywhere.
Yup, that's me
Now you're probably wondering how I got here.
Me too!
WOAH, LIKE IN THE MOVIE!
This music's real clean. Like my conscience.
This was the last score Bernard Herrmann produced before sadly passing away.....
He left us with a winner.
Hmmm....there another Hermann soundtrack left at the same time for the horror fick Its Alive 2.
... and the first soundtrack album I ever bought, after seeing this film in 1976. If Travis's lonely &raging heartsong could be heard, this is it.
Beautiful. Timeless. Perfect.
wow he really went out with a bang
Yeah he died weeks after finishing the score. Even before the movie released. Scorsese must've gone like "phew"
This piece captures the soul of New York city.
at night
AND THE 70'S WHEN WE AS A CITY WERE STRUGGLING FOR UNNECESSARY APPROVAL
It's usually a jazz sound.
@@thomaspiccirillo6820 Ok boomer
It captures the soul of old 1970s NYC.. Not today's NYC. The city has lost its soul and become gentrified.
This is New York City’s anthem. I can smell the rain, the subway stations, the steam coming out from the streets, the garbage, all the perfumes and colognes from different people, and the pizza. I can hear the sirens, the different languages all around me, the accent, the noises while people are walking, I can see the neon lights, the ads, the never ending buildings, the fire escape ladders, the fog…
Can you feel the underlying racial tension too?
@@purest_evil why do you have to take something so beautiful as this comment and make it about race
@@local_therapist8637 Cause it's ultimately unavoidable and has to be confronted lol plus blks are a big reason why the streets are unsafe just to walk to a liquor store
This comment is a beautiful poem.
NYC lacks the danger, mystery, and allure it had at the time this movie was made. Not to say it’s not still dangerous in some areas, but it’s certainly less mysterious…
2:39 It's heaven when the strings take over
amen
Has to be the best soundtrack of all time
Shaun H you said it so I didn’t have to 😂
@knowledge share please share your knowledge with us then
Ruined the movie imo
Ah now... that's a bit of an exaggeration.
@Randy White Not a chance lol. Simply nowhere near.
My god, I can practically smell the exhaust and garbage of NYC through the screen.
This feels like the most backhanded of compliments.
Try getting out of that adult book store.
Smells like downtown Johannesburg, south africa
Wow! Agreed! x
@WIDLEY1000 but why didn't he clean the movie theatre seats? Listening to this while walking around NYC. No garbage smells in winter.
Still can't believe that Taxi Driver didn't win the Oscar for Best Original Score. Not that The Omen didn't have good music too, but wasn't as deep as Mr. Hermann's work.
mentioning Taxi Driver's score in the same sentence as The Omen's score, I forgot what The Omen sounds like. It can't touch Taxi Driver
@@dead0ntime they, cannot, touch, her.
TOUCHE HE WAS ROBBED
It came out the same year as Rocky
@@idurisu930 _Rocky_ wasn't even nominated. That said, the late Bernard Herrmann, who had won his Oscar 35 years earlier for _The Devil & Daniel Webster,_ probably split votes between his _Taxi Driver_ and _Obsession_ scores, not to mention that _The Omen_ ended up being Jerry Goldsmith's only Oscar.
The score and whole movie has a feeling that I can’t quite put into words. Haunting would be an attempt at describing it
to me the score makes it kind of dream-like
as another commenter said. dream-like would be a good word. and for some reason hazy i feel like is a good word to describe it even tho that makes no sense.
A blend of lonely and nostalgic
There's something about it that while trying to take a positive look at life I feel like I can't connect with other people no matter what.
Hypnotic
I don’t know if the movie would be the same without this iconic music
Nope
The Danish National Symphony Orchestra = tax money spent well.
Public service is a beautiful thing
lol
Eh... Would be better funded voluntarily.
@@KutWrite Really?
@@peterbudtz2763: Morally speaking, yes.
Robert De Niro + Martin Scorsese + Bernard Hermann = The Best of the Best..
“All the animals come out at night”
As soon as I heard the sax, I clicked in the like button.
Hans Ulrik did a superb job on that solo.
Same
lol same here
The king of instruments 🎷
4:18 where the depression and paranoia really kick in is sheer genius! Bernard Herrmann was really something special.
Real
"On every street in every city, there's a nobody who dreams of being a somebody".
This was composer Bernard Herrmanns last score. He died suddenly of heart attack right after the recording RIP genius.
I wish I could learn how to play this particular piece and I'll just walk down the street, with a sax and playing it. It's so melancholic which makes it that... relatable
Im learning it right now its challenging for me due to the high notes.
God’s Lonely Man
You talkin' to me?
The name of this piece is 'I Still Can't Sleep'
I thought was "nice piece for Orchestra"
The conductor is lookin' at the camera like, "are you talkin' to me?"
I saw this movie when I was 17 in a dingy little movie theatre just off Picadilly Square in London in 1979. For a country boy, it was an eye-opener, but then so was London! Forty-two years later, this music brought back a LOT of memories! Thank you!
London sucks, this is New York’s anthem
This took us musically through the entire movie.
*This is better than porn.*
@@OrangeChan No, he isn't mean that. He is porn mean.
Easily the best recreation of the tone and depth of the original score recording. Sublime.
Magnificent version. I love this orchestra and conductor. Beautiful song for a VERY disturbing movie...have a great weekend everyone...
They…cannot…touch…her (the composer, the whole orchestra nailed this)
The saxofon is predominant and the drums subtle. You can practically experience the hypnotic and provocative essence of the city of New York through the eyes of Travis Bickle.
Goosebumps, I receive goosebumps by listening to this classic tune. Martin Scorsese is a genius director and has great taste in music.
I haven’t heard sax this good since, bleeding gums Murphy’s, sax on the beach
R I P bernard herrmann
I watched this orchestra live in Malmo, Sweden and when this song came on I almost became teary eyed.. one of my favorite compositions and I got to see it live.
the collective sound of the violins at 2:39 gets me every time
Robert De Niro at 2:57
46 Touring in “New York, New York”
46 Touring He does look a little like De Niro. 😂
Looks more like Pacino to me
New york new york
Used to listen to this when I called off and drove my taxi home each night. Very special piece of music for me, and they have done it beautifully.
I wish I could attend something like this.....
words cannot describe how beautiful this is.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Thank you.
Pure Song... IMMORTAL MUSIC... PERFECT... Bravo and Bravisimo...
Who says there's too much sax and violins in the movies?
NYC2NV stealing.
There’s not enough!
Family guy reference I guess?
the best comment.
Thats a great line !
i got some bad ideas in my head
" im gods lonely man"
don't we all, we are all taxi drivers, I just try to keep it on the fairway so to speak.
"all I have are negative thoughts" (the connection with )
I wanna do something y'know.
They. Cannot. Touch. Her.
No eh visto Taxi driver! :(
@@weareunder ¿Pues a qué esperas?
Q buenos tiempos. Saludos👉😗
A mis 42 años recién he visto TAXI DRIVER y recién he descubieto esta joya musical.
I sometimes watch this movie just to take in the atmosphere combined with the soundtrack. Some of the best scenery ever captured on film
great movie LA Noires soundtrack always reminded me of this.
Underrated game

New beginnings 1 from La noire is inspired by this score :)
Dear Administrator:THANKS FOR POSTING THIS ❤
I am almost 50. This movie has been an inspiration for me since I was a teenager.
I am in tears. 🇺🇸🇮🇹❤
There's nothing like watching the conductor and orchestra perform a classical piece of music or in this case, a memorable movie score, because a live performance makes one more fully appreciate all of the complexities and orchestrations that go into the creation of the score and the incredible talent of the musicians themselves.
Bravo, Danish National Symphony Orchestra! :)
This is breathtakingly awesome and the sax playing is sooooooo smooth and faultless. Genius player.
Beautiful music. So calming, in a lonely, depressing way
I now have a new place i want to visit before I go. I can listen to this all day. Such amazing renditions. I can only imagine how it must sound live.
Sarah Hicks is a "SUPER STAR" She has a unique understanding of music and how it should be presented. Enjoy
I agree when she is conducting you can sure tell the difference. Hard to describe it but without a doubt I hear it. I know it's impossible but I wish she could tour with these amazing musicians I would go see them for sure.I would love to her her conduct a tribute to The Beach boy's (Brian Wilson's) Pet sounds that would be amazing
Garry Adams she in. A class by. Her self
Boy, I'd forgotten about the "Henry Mancini" jazz saxophone and big-band part that starts just after the 1 minute mark. I remember when I saw the movie thinking about the contrast between that, and the garbage, traffic, street hustlers, hookers and all the rest of it that made up the world where the movie characters spent most of their time. Brilliant music, and this is a brilliant presentation. Can't wait for more of the D.N.O.!
Just appreciate how multitalented Hans Ulrich is - both here playing saxofone and on harmonica playing Morricone. He is a badass
I go all over. Queens, Brooklyn. Makes no difference to me.
Any time, any where
if you’re gonna bust my chops you can take it on the arches
I AM IN HEAVEN!

I love the ending: it's like a cliffhanger... as if something's still going to happen someday. Or if the good outcome for Travis is not approved by some ominous moralic instance...
This is immensely beautiful...that drum roll intro...that soothing saxophone solo...those strings...Herrmann was a pure genius and this rendition is absolutely magnificent!!! Bravo!!! 🙏👏👏👏👏👏
this orchestra is so organizized
Great score for a great movie
It's the soundtrack of a genius. Herrmann was not just about moments or accompanying the film, he soaked them and dressed them with his music
Listen every night
This kinda makes you feel like your in a dream
She appeared like an angel. Out of this filthy mess, she is alone. They... can not ...touch..her...
Thanks for uploading. If for some obscure reason you don't like the movie, you will never forget this righteous saxophone.
Bernard herrmann ❤
Talented No Doubt and I love the orchestrator she's just downright gorgeous
Hans Ulrik is amazing
Conductress Sarah Hicks...Perfection...Or-ELSE~~~***Magnifique***
I've not heard this piece in ages. Luscious. Milk chocolates in hues of silken satins...that sax is sucking the tears out of the ducts of my eyes...
Bernard Herrmann is the best of the best!!!!!
I’m in love with this score
Beautiful.
God when everything cuts out and just the saxophone plays it gave me chills and goosebumps. So fucking good man. And i love how it ends on a explosive ominous sound.
Bernard Hermann the BEST EVER! PERIOD! END OF STORY. Imagine if he would've lived another 20yrs how much more brilliance he would've created.
Man that conductor is GORGEOUS!!!!
i listen to this everyday
I worked for cabify for a while and I used to play this soundtrack. Costumers were thinking I was at the point of shooting them, sure...
Anyway, this orchestrar blows my mind, they play all these soundtracks as they were the original. 10/10
deadly beautiful
Goosebumps...
PERFECT Sound and Film...
what a sax monster
1973 my first time in NYC, a warm night in spring, in Spanish Harlem. Old tenement buildings up on about the 5th floor, someone playing Blues on a Trumpet. I stood on an almost empty street listening in awe.
i wish i can watch Taxi Driver again for the first time
This orchestra NEVER faila to awe me
such an amazing film
Wonderful. I can just visualise the images from the movie.
I see Cybil Sheppard in the back seat of Travis's taxi when I hear this music. The ride is on Travis.
Really love this version
This score reminds me of L.A Noire. I get this same feeling i got when i first wandered through 1940's Los Angeles... So amazing
Masterpiece musical score to a masterpiece of a film. Not many filmmakers living today can say they worked with the great Bernard Herrmann.
When they zoom on to the musicians when they play, i get kinda nervous as if it was me whos playing and MUST do everything right cause u know its live xD
But for real, all these people are incredibly talanted and i looooove their work!!
I rlly wanna visit them live some day!!
I really love this song... 💭
One of the unforgetabble movies and the music...Jody Foster was sparkleing....
