Nicely done. Bernard Herrmann was a musical genius. He wrote many movie scores, but this one, written for Scorsese's Taxi Driver is, IMHO, his masterpiece, and my favorite. He died on Christmas Eve 1975 just as he finished this score.
Wonderful contribution to those he left behind.
Vertigo,Psycho and Taxi Driver are his best scores and also the rest are excellent too
its so sad he never got to see how iconic it was and how perfect it matched with the movie. Even not seeing the movie is missing out on something pretty special ill never forget the first time I watched this movie, I was going through heavy benzo/opioid withdrawals and this sound track plus the initial feelings of being an outcast/loner like Travis rlly just helped me forget about the physical and mental torture I was going through
May I humbly ask what is the genre of this music. I fucking love it

Idk, I think clarinet sounds more badass on average. Trumpet and flugelhorn are also great sounding when handled properly.

Division of Police. The city at night..breathtaking. I still argue that no instrument captures the pulse of a big city at night as does an Alto sax.

Bernard Herrmann will always be one of the best composers in film history. The score of Taxi Driver is my personal favorite of his, with Vertigo right behind it.

Great camerawork! I could really see all the work Hermann put into the orchestration. I love the drums and vibes. The 'chaos' with the snare drums and the vibes and harp arpeggios! Wow! Hermann used his life's skills to compose this, his last movie score.
I guess Hermann was trying to paint with sound the craziness in Travis Bickle's (?) mind. So chaotic and energetic.

Carlos Rosales yo la aprendi hace 1 año despues de ver la pelicula. Esta facil porque la parte del sax hace repeticion casi toda la cancion excepto una pequeñas partes.

It's good enough. I've played this score album for 40 years, and this still gave me chills. Yeah, I prefer Scott's solo on side 1 of the Arista album, but this has wings.

It's an ok version. I don't like the added parts. The original is great
I think the soloist tries to one-up the original too much, which is what a lot of people tend to do whenever they try to cover or otherwise emulate/recreate anything that has gained legendary status. What makes the thing in question legendary is lost, usually, when someone tries to go beyond it.
No, it's easily right up there with the original rendition. This guy's tone and technique is exceptionally good. Also "added parts". It's a jazz piece composed for orchestra, mate. It's called "improvisation". Maybe you've heard of it? Kind of a hallmark of the genre.

I have a book about the composers life at home,written by a Steven Smith and last year picked up a box( 7CD ,s) almost the whole whack on his various scores etc. but strange oh strange nothing from the movie,Taxi Driver....
One whole CD though with the score of the old black n white movie Obsession
kind of makes up for the Lasse.. and the book written in the 90,s is a must...he was a genius and a complex guy.
He was frustrated that he could not secure a conducting post..as brilliant a composer as he was his thirst in life was getting that elusive conducting post (New York Phil, Philadelphia Phil, Boston Symp) thats what he wanted.
