  • This kit features the "small" Midge Servo Motor. Essentially a plug and play kit, with a required firmware flash. Great DD FFB feel!. I really like this kit. Look below for video segment links. Here's an email for Joe he is selling OSW parts and kits, ssmfgx1@gmail.com

    As always, excellent review. I've read hundred of pages regarding the OSW, but this is the only place where I can finally see visualizations of what's being talked about in the forum. Thank you Barry for the efffort. I'm assuming from your carefully worded statement, this small mige has better feel than the Accuforce.

    Hi Barry,
    Just wanted to stop by and say a big thank you for making these videos. These are excellent in depth reviews, which answer all the relevant and important questions and even more. I love that you aren't afraid of opening up things and go into detailed technical stuff. Your channel is one of a kind! Hope you never change the format, cause it's really entertaining and informative.
    If I'm allowed to add, I'm extremely jealous of your beautifully set up workshop. 😀 A true dreamland for any man!

      From what I understand it used to be a really tedious experience, having to do everything yourself, that's entirely not the case any more.
      The absolute easiest route I've come to find out (as of yet at least) is to buy the Sim-plicity SW20, it's a next to complete OSW based on the small MiGe motor (seems to be one of the most popular ones), the only thing you need to buy on top of it is the actual wheel, and you can easily find an old MOMO or Motamec wheel for cheap. That's as far as the wheel goes at least, you still need to supply pedals and a shifter, and a button box if that's what you want. I haven't got one myself yet, but I will probably get the sim-gear.co.uk Big Box. Supposedly has great paddle shifters, and there's plenty of controls so you won't have to nitpick between the most important functions you want to map to your wheel.
      If you buy the Sim-plicity SW20 you get the complete package as far as motor-wise goes, the cables, the control unit, everything AS WELL AS a freaking Skype-session guiding you through the installation, should you need it. How cool is that!? I'm so hyped I just can't contain myself, I won't be getting one myself for at least a few months but eventually when I do, haha oh man I'm giggling like a little school girl thinking about it.

    • @svenwever6211
      @svenwever6211 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh nice! Thanx for the sim gear link... nice affordable shifters indeed.
      Yes i was looking at Sim-plicity site.(thanx) And now i see a new 12Nm motor. Same price as 20 but i guess its more then enough for me.
      When i watch vids of 20Nm nobody put it on full power. So i guess thats a go for me the 12Nm. Im not that of a strong guy and my FFB isnt that high in game.
      And yes HYPED as well overhere... Have fun with your pursage in the future with DD!
      I need to fill my wwallet first... But when it is?! Oh man!!!!!!!

    With the upcoming Argon Firmware 2.0 the Mige motor will feel smoother. I already tested the beta with the bigger Mige. If that is still not smooth enough, you can enable setpoint smoothing. This will add about 6ms input lag but it really feels great.

    Hi Barry, any chance you can do a review of this wheel with other games other than iracing? Some of the current excellent titles like, assetto corsa, project cars and dirt rally. We all know how great this wheel is with iRacing. But is the software currently capable enough to fine tune the settings for these other sims outputting a very different signal to the osw wheel? I already have a d-box and GS-4 motion system which I feel is giving me a lot of the cues of what I need to know the car is doing. The wheel becomes less important of a sim hardware other than to simulate the steering rack forces accurately. Would you also recommend an osw otherwise If I'm already heavily invested in a lifeline Quick release system on all my steering wheels?

      Also wanting to know this because I want to buy my first FFB wheel aka building this OSW, but considering it has a 'controller' calibration through PC/motion joy, it will act as a normal controller so maybe it works with literally every game? If it doesn't you can simulate it using a program called xpadder possibly?

    From what I've read in the iRacing forums that was re-posted elsewhere, David Tuckers take was much different than what Barry thinks in this video. I guess everyone has their own opinion and or take on what correct FFB feels like. I think I'll go off of what David Tucker is saying though when considering my purchase of a DD wheel .

      David, the iRacing FFB guru, seems impressed by the OSW he received. He did mention a few possible "cons" depending on your preferences. Building one from scratch is not for the beginner, the weight of the motor and the forces it produces require a very stable rig, the ffb effects are exciting but perhaps not as realistic as some other direct drive options, and the high torque settings were more than he needs or wants (he mentioned 10-15 nm being perhaps the sweet spot.

    www. reimer-motorsports. de is the system he reviewed. I bought the same setup (IONI controller and small Mige motor) from a guy in VA. His name is Joe Sullivan. I've had mine for not even a week and i am playing with settings, but holy cow it is incredibly good! Very real/natural feeling, like Barry said. I sold my AccuForce to get this wheel and it was well worth it. My only wish is that they develop software with more features, like how the AF has oscillation control and other features.

      +Todd Honczarenko One more question if i may. Did you built it your self (found the parts and software your self) or did you buy the kit from Reimer motor spors 96.
      The price on the kit is "heavy"....
      Maybe i can get all the parts my self and ship it to Norway and save money because of Tax/vat regulations on +25% on the buying price of a kit

    • @thonczarenko
      @thonczarenko 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +majonesn I bought it from Joe Sullivan on the Iracing forums. His prices are cheaper than the one being reviewed on the video. He teamed up with Jason Jordarski who is very active on the forums and is helping to organize the OSW community by sharing data and setup information.

    I am very new to OSW wheels and they have always been a deterrent for me due to the overwhelming DIY part that I just don't have time to put into for a project. I have found on simracingbay.com some turn key solutions completed sets and wanted to ask someone who knows what they are talking about a few questions before just dropping any large amounts of money. Are these setups good ones or are they lacking components you would declare as necessary. which of the completed sets of OSW wheels would you recommend of the batch sold at simracingbay and why? If there is any other site you know of or individual who sells completed sets that are much better please direct the way! Are these some of the best components you can get even when compared to the DIY models (not taking into account the one off like 3000-4000 wheel builds). As a newbie to these wheels I do not know what the term turn key solutions Mean? Is this a term for it's completely assembled, the software is programmed, or the quirks you may have with a DIY model are worked out of it? What software is needed for these packages to be installed to get the wheel working? Lastly a few concerns before I get sucked into all the glamour of these wheels that maybe you would have the time to answer for me. Are they compatible for all the racing titles? I see many people using it for Iracing but I have plenty of other title even older ones like rfactor I want to play with this wheel. If not how do you program the wheel in and are there links for each game? I have also heard of people having to work around the wheel blocking communications for their pedal systems (happened to the youtube channel Jimmy Broadbent). Is this a common problem and honestly what are some of the more common issue you may run into with this wheel? Lastly with the software how well does the software you download allow for FFB adjustments? How in depth is it and does the whole OSW in a nutshell seem like a system that could be expanded on without buying a new wheel? What I mean by this is the wheel itself produces more power than one would need ever and it's the smoothest wheel type you can buy so really the only thing left is the it to be compatible for games and for the software to be upgradable for the wheel so the FFB could gradually get better. Both of those last aspects are my biggest concern since these turn key solutions look like more of a complete package that would produce amazing results and wouldn't be any of the DIY hassle. I almost forgot to mention one last aspect, where do you get wheel hubs that are solid with no play for these wheel bases? Thanks for the help and sorry it was so long!

      Wheels with the 10,000 ppr encoder would show 40,000 cpr at 41:09 and 10,000 ppr at 29:55. Ppr is pulse per revolution. Cpr is count per revolution. These encoders have a 1 Pulse per four count measurement. This wheel that Barry reviewed had the 2500 ppr encoder it appears.
