I was glad to see you posting a how to on this profile tubing. I have been curious about this stuff. I built a PVC rig after seeing your PVC build. It was a lot of fun to build. I am now thinking about replacing it with the metal tubing. Thanks a ton Shaun.
Yes! I was looking forward to one of these. My favorite videos from ISR when you were there was the rig builds. I already have a rig, but its cool to see new ones built and how they were constructed.
Man I’m sooo glad to find you again. I bought my Granstand because of you in 2013. I always wondered where you went. Following you now. You look great!!!
Thank you so much for this Shaun, I'm planning to use 80/20 tubing for some time now, I was looking for a nice tutorial like this. Very helpfull, thanks!!!
I use to work with 8020 and Bosch rexroth aluminum profile tubing. I like the Bosch accessory's list and I get the company discount! The 45 mm 80/20 and Bosch match up! We used it for material handling at a Large NW Aircraft company. We cut it with a 12"miter saw and a Freud 12' 96 tooth carbide Thin Kerf Non-Ferrous Metal Saw Blade. About $100 blade. I used an table saw with a similar 10" carbide high tooth count blade at home. Allow the blade to cut and do not rush it. You can make a second spring pass to make the cut pretty. The Bosch Swivel Bracket kit allows my wheel deck to rotate 180 degrees and move up and down in a T-Slot to allow my friends to adjust to their liking. My seat and wheel deck platform sit on 45mm T-Slot tubing allowing both to move in and out in relation to my pedal box that also have 30 degrees of rotation. Fanatec Turbo-S and Clubsport V1 pedals.
What a great job, yes I'm going to give this a shoot. Shaun like you there's no one else. Excellent presentation. Looking forward to do this with your help . thumbs up. Edwin F.
A NICE build show for this Highly Recommended material. I don't personally have this 80/20 rig. But, I know it is a Great Quality type of a rig. Good Job, Shaun.
I wonder if its cheaper to just buy a double wide T-slot rail rather than joining two. I guess it depends on where you get it from? Very cool video though! been thinking of building a sim like this for a while and am looking up videos for inspiration.
Good video, you have inspired me to finally build a rig later this year when I can afford to. It looks solid and I actually might buy the GranStand rig that u did review on years ago and add to it to fix the slight flexing problem. But this video gave me more ideas to help me. Later.
+The Simpit Shaun!! Great video again! I'm looking for the tubing, but I'm wondering how big is the ones you're using. 20x20mm or 40x40mm?? Thanks!!!! :)
You forgot to mention the "thickness" of it it. Because there are many. 15x15mm 20x20mm 30x30mm 40x40mm. Wich one did you use?! That seems To Be everyones doubt! Thank you for your time!
What were the extrusions width diameter? I can't see it on the forum page with all the info, only the required length. would 40mmx40mm be sufficient enough? Or would you go thicker for more support?
where did you get the brackets from, the ones on 8020 site are way too much over $150 alone. I noticed yours are different and would like to know where you bought them from.
Hi thanks for putting up these videos. Really a great help. I'm looking to get started into some racing and I'd like to go off kind of design that you have using him Julie are using. But I'm looking at it I noticed as variation to different strengths what do you recommend is the smallest strength you would go?
I'm very surprised that you are using a G27 wheel. Could you please tell us more about the modifications you did on this rather old wheel (because I also still got an old G27 somewhere). Thanks a lot.
+Jimothy Bigginsworth i deleted my comment i think they dont want us to do unrelated discussions here in this video... they want to stay to the video's topic which is rig building. they mentioned going to their site . sorry if i started this g27 thing..
It's an old video so it probably been asked, it there a plan we can download? You know us complete noobsvto diy rigs? Secondly does this, can this save you money?
How does the rigitity/solidness of such a build compare to say, and Obutto revolution? Especially when in use with very strong steering wheels and like 90kg load cell pedals? That is really the only point that I'm still sceptical about, and which is holding me back from building my own rig.
Which specific type of 80/20 is being used here? It seems there's 20*20mm, 40*40mm and 45*45mm. Also, there's different sizes of slot gaps - either 8mm or 10mm.
+J-Duvel I used motedis.co.uk recently for some 40mm section stuff to build a triple monitor mount. Way over engineered but rock solid. It was my first time using this stuff but I will be going back for more to build a full rig. They offer a rig kit as it happens. Motedis are based in Germany and that is where the stuff will ship from. They also cut lengths to order so don't expect delivery tomorrow. They are a small outfit of engineers I think (not salesmen) so comms is brief and to the point but perfectly adequate. Lead time to shipping when I ordered was about 7 working days.
+Rory McCrossan I built my rig out of the 30mm profile, its plenty strong enough. Also a good point to note is that the 30mm profile uses M6 nuts & bolts, so you can use M6 square nuts. They fit the groove perfectly, and although they are kinda awkward to position until you tighten them up, they're far less expensive than the spring loaded ones that run to about £1 for 5. I bought a bag of 100 for £2 from a family run hardware store.
+Matt Smith So M6 nuts and bolts are what I need to get if I use the 10 series 1in x1in 8020? I have spent more time trying to figure out what size and length bolts I need to use than I have anything else because he did not mention these details in his guide.
As many have mentioned, I am also curious to hear your opinions on the modified G27 and also looking forward to hear about the TV stand. Great video and very interesting to see how you did it. I would suggest to make more DYI videos. Also, it might be useful to hear how much all the material have cost you, as a reference. I missed that part in the video
good build, I'm going to base mine off of this, just wish you would have covered the mount for a shifter and handbrake. Oh well I guess I just have to get creative
I would like to build a rig rather than buy one. I like original things and i can add or remove things to suit me. If i buy one, I wouldn't want to alter it.
05:38 dont you americans never question your measurement system? The ENTIRE world is using a system where everything is multiplied or divided by 10. Why? Why america?

you make it easy to follow good stuff brudda

how much would you (rough) estimate this would cost to build?
What a great job, yes I'm going to give this a shoot. Shaun like you there's no one else. Excellent presentation. Looking forward to do this with your help . thumbs up.
Edwin F.
this is what I love to see...you're the best when it comes to hands on and review stuff....well done
Hmm.....Thanks man! Looking to build my own that is rugged and can be moded! Thanks again Sean!
I assume you still have the parts list at the simpit site?
A NICE build show for this Highly Recommended material. I don't personally have this 80/20 rig. But, I know it is a Great Quality type of a rig. Good Job, Shaun.
Looking to upgrade the rig soon and this is still very relevant info.
You have inspired me, to give this a try someday.
I am seriously co sidering doing something like this for my flight sim setup....
Thanks I give your rig a 10 out 10
Hey thanks for the Video actually going build a rig based on this with a few added things to fit me.
Thank you for this I think I asked you what you made your rig out of 10 years ago haha Thank you!!!
Nice modularity in the design.
I wonder if its cheaper to just buy a double wide T-slot rail rather than joining two. I guess it depends on where you get it from?
Very cool video though! been thinking of building a sim like this for a while and am looking up videos for inspiration.
If I had time I'd love to build 2 new rigs then I can have all my wheels ready to go for 3 player local action
Good video, you have inspired me to finally build a rig later this year when I can afford to. It looks solid and I actually might buy the GranStand rig that u did review on years ago and add to it to fix the slight flexing problem. But this video gave me more ideas to help me. Later.
Thanks for this. I may have to look into doing this soon.
Inspired! Thanks!!
He has all this nice gear and runs a G27? I suppose everyone has their preferences
+The Simpit Shaun!! Great video again! I'm looking for the tubing, but I'm wondering how big is the ones you're using. 20x20mm or 40x40mm?? Thanks!!!! :)
He was definitely using 40mmx40mm

i did some calculation and seems 30x30
By chance. Does anyone have the list of cuts parts etc. Link not working

Your website is not longer working. Where can I find the list for the materials?

+Rory McCrossan i think shaun used 1" stuff, so roughly 25mm (30mm maybe?). Anyone used these guys in the UK? www.aluminium-profile.co.uk/
+Rory McCrossan
It is the one inch tubing, it is the least expensive and elast fancy style I have ever seen.
+J-Duvel I used motedis.co.uk recently for some 40mm section stuff to build a triple monitor mount. Way over engineered but rock solid. Really good job on the build Shawn. Next up....the monitor stands ;o)

Thank you for this. I am going to be using 8020 10 series. Do you know where I can find those brackets?
Do you feel that this design is too narrow? Would it be improved if 24" crass bracing was used instead of the 18" you used?
good job!
The only videos ive seen with you are sim rig building. Is that your main thing?
thx a lot mate :)
I know this is off topic but how did you mount the profile tubing to the pvc rig from the other show?
First off I just wanna say thanks for creating this video. I am curious as to how much your rig weights?
looking at other videos, the flexing seems significant
Haven't watched it all, I know it's old, but it surety can be reinforced in the right places?
What would you sell your old rig for and is it going to be a turnkey operation
In terms of stiffness of the rig (I want to use an OSW), what would you recommend regarding thickness of the 8020?
nicce buinnlt btw how much its cost for the alm...
One could use plastic end caps for a nicer look.
How much $ to build this rig in 2020?
You can get all this stuff at Amazon
Nice rig. How much would you say it cost? I've always wanted a 80/20 rig, but I've been put off by the assumption that it's really expensive.
+Manny_NotTheStig If you're in the US. A lot.
I know it's 2 years but eBay is the best place to buy. The extrusion is pretty cheap. It's the fasteners and brackets that end up costing alot.
What the sizes pl
Thanks for the video. I'm so jealous I can't get extrusions in my country. Currently building my wood DM version. Hope it comes out alright.
sad link is broken
Shaun "Lego" Cole
What is the average cost to build one of these ???
@ 20:22 i see enough wheel deck wobble.
Lol you can't see shit.
is this gona be strong enough for OSW?
Please get a osw! You can't use a g29 with those pedals.....
Anyone knows how is this tubing called in Australia??
Cheers :)
just google 80 20 mate, it comes up, there is a few places here selling it. Profilium is work a look, they sell the better angle brackets
What is the total cost?
"no wheel wobble" ?? it's on tape, we can see it wobble for the second and a half clip of you driving on a straight line at 20:20 ....
New drinking game :
Take a shot when he says rig !
*sent from Heaven, via smartphone , died from alcohol poisoning
where did you order your materials from?
r0mulyni2 mcmaster-carr has some
8020.net what he has isn’t 80/20, 80/20 inc. materials are arguably better.
lOVE THE sIM pIT AND YOU DUDE.NOT SURE ABOUT THE BACKGROUND MUSIC THOUGH,DISTRACTING.
Sadly I agree with this comment
you da men !!
I would like to build a rig rather than buy one. I like original things and i can add or remove things to suit me. If i buy one, I wouldn't want to alter it.
You can multitask with your accelerator pedal and sell shoes
so spend more money with diy than buying a rig ready to go??? Am i missing something? Or is it the customization that everyone's after?
I think even now the companies out there aint getting it monster tech is to dear nlr rigs are not configurable enough for flight and racing.
Common name is T-Slot
Cue, 70’s porn background music, great video!
$1500 pedels.. $200 wheel
Pedals are what matters. Also, the wheel is modded heavily.
Those pedals cost like four or five times what a stock G27 costs, LOL.
I work for 80/20 and that is definitely not 80/20 profiles.
I really do not understand why everyone calls it 8020 when it clearly never is
I'm assuming because 80/20 is the leader in the profile business.
While this is a great idea, the amount of 80/20 aluminum needed would cost about the same as a used car! lol
Go look at the prices of the high end 80/20 cockpits. This is cheaper.
@@Kreation530 I don't doubt it...but the 80/20 stuff to this day is still very high. I wish I could find some reasonably-priced 80/20.
Incredible how the US STILL use the prehistoric and outdated inches.
That's a lot of money to spend on a couple pieces of metal
80/20 is the size. That's not 80/20.
It's also not TUBE!!! FFS
This isn’t 80/20 material it’s just a knock off
500th like!!
No Jessica ? no like...... kkkkk
Franken build... looks terrible and flimsy
05:38 dont you americans never question your measurement system? The ENTIRE world is using a system where everything is multiplied or divided by 10. Why? Why america?
.
No flex ? I smell shite
Way over designed, the seat hang off too far might til the front up,
all that for a G27?
