2018 Ford Edge Rear Brake Replacement // Wheel Hub Assembly Gone Bad // Thez Nutz Garage Episode #77

  • I this video I try to eliminate a roaring noise coming from the rear end of my 2018 Ford Edge Sport. My first thought was a wheel hub assembly but I figured I would go through all of the components that could also cause this noise.
I just put new tires on this Ford Edge and maybe the tires were not mounted correctly? I carried it back to Walmart Tire and Lube where they were originally mounted. After they were rebalanced and rotated the noise continued.
Next step was to look at the rear brakes. Maybe one was sticking?
I purchased new rear pads and had the old rotors turn but to no avail the noise continued.
Now the noise was 10 times as loud. Maybe my rotors are bent after all? I then ordered two new rotors from Autozone and reworked the brake system for the second time. Still the noise continued to deafen me well driving the Ford Edge.
The last option was to take it back to the dealership where I purchased the Ford Edge. Being the Edge was out of its bumper to bumper warranty I wanted to make sure the I knew what was broken before I carried it into the dealership's service department. The Edge still has it powertrain warranty and the wheel hubs should be covered, should be?
After the dealership looked at the Edge they came to the same conclusion I did, the passenger side rear wheel hub assembly was bad. The repair was covered under warranty! YAY!
The service department was wonderful and very curious. Thank you Rebecca for taking care of me and Lucylle!

For future reference. Putting your brakes in service mode electronically drives the pistons back in.

Also, for future reference! I lost my wrench for the caliper sleeves/ behind the dust caps! Luckily a t45 torx bit works great!

My 2017 Edge awd has the wheels off twice a year for snow tires swapping. I agree that those Ford lug nuts deform quickly . Bad design. Mine need replacing also. 🇨🇦👍

The bad lug nuts affect many different vehicle brands.

Do you know how much the repair would have been if not under warranty? I have a 2015 doing the same thing. Mine you can feel it in the car. Feels like a tire out of balance. Please let me know. Thanks and great video!

If you do it yourself maybe a few hundred bucks. Buy the hub assembly at a local auto parts store and get the warranty. ALSO make sure if you do the job that you look up how to dis engage the emergency brake.

Did you say this was covered under your powertrain warranty? We have 2018 Edge SEL and are having a similar issue. We are over the bumper-to-bumper warranty mileage but still within the powertrain warranty mileage.
