  • in this video i fix a blown Motorcraft shock on my 2018 Ford Edge Sport. I replace the bad shock with a Duralast shock I got for Autozone. If you are replacing the rear shocks on your Ford Edge replace them in pairs. This job takes probably less than an hour for both shocks BUT things can go wrong. Be prepared with the right tools and parts.
Basic tools you will need are stated in the video.
Thanks for watching and have a blessed day.

Thank you. This video not only helped me replace the shocks and save money but also enable me to prepare for the job so I knew I had everything I would need, including Loctite, before starting. One of my shocks had actually broken up through the aluminium mount and was rattling against the inner wheel arch. I bought genuine shockers from Ford but they didn't even have a new top nut with them even though you should not re-use the old lock nuts ! I had to buy them separately 😤

Sure would be nice if you could just buy everything put together and not have to pick and pull from other parts. Great video!

Hey, I was curious how you knew that your shock had failed? I'm getting a weird rattling from the rear passenger side and from my research it says it could be the shock or stabilizer link. Just wondered your diagnosis.

I could hear it and feel the way the car was driving. In the video did you see all of the gunk on the side of the bad shock? That is from the oil leaking from inside the shock. Once it’s starts leaking out it has gone bad.

Okay, wow. I was in such a hurry to see how you did it I skipped some of the video and now in rewatch I can see your explanation. Thanks.

I know this is old but the rattle is probably your upper shock mount... which is broken.. but you prob fix it by now

@@ThezNutzGarage about to go swap both of mine out for bilstien's in ten minutes. Weird they're compatible but they don't have that little lock ring around the base of the threaded part. Hoping that's not gonna be an issue lmao.

Mines has a squeaking noise as if it needs to be lubed rear passenger side, could it be the shocks as well?

Ford shop manual says to replace the bolts too

Thanks for this video as it will make changing out the shocks super simple. Also, I chuckled when I saw the shock mounting bracket kick out as you went to grab the bolt. This is exactly what can (and most likely will) happen when doing this job. Thanks for keeping it real and not doing some fancy edit so it looks like everything goes perfectly for you (like so many other videos). I'll make sure to show it who's boss if (when?) it happens to me. Cheers!

Definitely would love a video from you doing the front shocks because thats the next project i have to do . I cant find a good video on the front end shock mounts for the 2015-2022 edge

    Thanks for making this video.
My 2016 SEL just had a plastic cap under the dust cover instead of that yellow squishy thing so I was able to completely skip the hammer/screwdriver step.
All in all saved over $600 by ordering from Rock Auto ($100 for 2 shocks and shipping) and following your video to DIY it compared to what the shop/garage quoted me.

@@ThezNutzGarage way better but more importantly the rear passenger shock no long makes noise over every little bump.
The shock didn’t have any external signs of failure but I could press down on the tailgate and hear clunking sounds. After replacing I could only hear the swishing of gas in the tank doing the same test.
The garage had also recommended new shock mounts but they were still completely fine (have only 50K mileage and are supposed to last 150K) in my case although the factory nut looked coated in rust.

I'd think $1100 would be reasonable for a dealership if they were replacing both front and rear. Replacing the front might require an alignment, but I'm not certain of the geometry (just a damper, coil-over, strut, etc.). If they were quoting $1100 for just the rear, which requires NO alignment, then they were trying to steal money from you.
