  • I looked for videos on replacing brakes on my 2016 Ford Edge with All Wheel Drive and the 3.5L engine but didn't see much useful Info. So I thought I'd share my experience of doing the brakes on this vehicle. Hopefully some of my video will help someone save a few bucks on a relatively easy task. However I recommend you perform Automotive Maintenance with in your comfort level, especially when it comes to something as important as brakes. Do not attempt if you feel it is above your mechanical skills.

Thanks Dan! This was perfect for my 2016 Ford Edge Sport...adding a few things! (WARNING: DO NOT REPLACE YOUR CALIPER GUIDE PIN BOOTS)
    1. For my 2016 Edge, I had to put the Emergency Brake in Service Mode (put car in ACC. then, while holding down emergency break button and pushing gas pedal, turn ACC off and then back on. You should get a message on the right side of the dash that says "EMERGENCY BREAK MAINTENANCE MODE"). It retracted the emergency brakes for me, and I didn't have to use the tool (just an F-Clamp to compress the pistons)
    2. I gave the rotors some encouraging tapping with a hammer in a few different angles (front, side, back, etc) and it loosened up!
    3. I coated the rear steel portion of the break pads with anti-squeal paste for good measure
    4. My kit came with guide pin boots, but unless you need to, DO NOT INSTALL THEM. I removed one from the caliper, and it looks like instead of being a fully rubber boot you can just press in, its some sort of metal-inserted bushing that looks impossible to replace with out removing the entire caliper and drilling or pressing them out.. Not sure if I need to replace the caliper or if I can press the factory ones out of the caliper, but for now, i've temporarily installed the old ones and the brakes seem to work just fine.

Thank you for posting this. I was unsure how to collapse the rear piston. This showed me how. 3 local mechanics wanted 400 bucks to do this job. I feel confident in doing it myself now.

Great video, thank you for showing step-by-step and using basic hand tools I'm an old-school mechanic and can relate to exactly how you did things.

Are the pads supposed to come with the spring because 2 sets did not have them

Nice job, Dan. We assume you cleaned the front rotors with brake clean prior to install.

I got an issue with the right side EPB, it's engaged and cannot get released, on the dash it shows service required and when i try to release the parking brake I can only hear the driver side EPB motor releasing not the other side, are you aware of anyway to manually release the EPB?

Great video and you saved the day by using a hex chisel or punch handle. I tried to find a 7/16" allen wrench and I think there is not one in my county. It seems that they are scarce as hens teeth.😀
I have some buddies that are car fanatics with dozens of tool boxes and they did not have one. I finally found a 7/16" hex center punch at Lowes in the tool section for less than 7 bucks. I had to file the paint off the end as it was a tight fit in the pins. I would not have been so specific about the hex drive except I spent more than a half day trying to beg borrow or buy one, so make sure you have one before you start the job.
Many thanks again for the redneck tip on the wrench.

Sorry I don’t have any plans on doing any brake line repairs to this vehicle. I have done those in the past on other vehicles and usually if you open the hydraulic system to replace a line, it is best to bleed the entire system. Hopefully you can find a video for how to bleed the brakes.

I’ve seen some people go through a process on the dash to put the rears into service mode because of the electronic parking brake. No issue for you not doing that?

I’m not aware of a service mode for the rear brake sets on this vehicle.

$193 rotor and pads for front add tax and shipping looking around $220 or so and the pads are power stop and the rotors are the better coating type

Unless I missed it I did not see where you compressed the piston on the front brakes

    • @Italianboy120
      @Italianboy120 ปีที่แล้ว

@kenny hart it was where he pried on the caliper with the screwdriver before removing the caliper. Looks like he was able to compress the pistons in enough that way

Good Video although you don't need to turn the rear parking brake caliper it will just compress.
