It has been a year now since I bought a Tesla Model 3 and have had quite a few requests to talk about it now that I've had it for a full year. It's been really cool to watch the car get better with software updates, that is one of the greatest things about this car. I've taken it on quite a few road trips over the year and have actually really enjoyed it even with the charging stops!

You need to stop using that extension cord; it could catch fire and burn your place down. Since the extension cord is heating up, that's saying the extension cord is not rated for the power your charger is drawing. It already looks scorched so that further deteriorates the power that can go through that extension cord. You should find a different outlet and plug your charger directly, without an extension cord, into the outlet. If you must have an extension cord, get the shortest one possible, with one that uses 12/3, or ideally 10/3, gauge wire.

      😇Shorter Thicker Cord😇
Buy the extra heavy-duty 110 volt cord at the hardware store off a role, also get professional grade cord ends, then make your custom cord, it's easy. Don't use adapters and try to use a wall outlet instead of the ceiling. This is faster charging and much safer.

      th-cam.com/video/HgeOXulAZC8/w-d-xo.html
Also if you want to do waterless carwash, then you need to get the dust off first with a very soft microfiber cloth or dusting rag first, otherwise you'll be rubbing all that dirt and sand into the paint. I have been using waterless carwash every day for over a year on a 9 y/o Prius and my paint looks better than yours.

The black color is very soft and prone to scratches.
You should wash it yourself with the 'two bucket method'.
First high pressure wash the car, then foam the car with a foam gun. Then spray off the foam of after 5-10 minutes.
Then use the two buckets for soap and cleaning the washmitt. Lots of videos about that.
Then dry with heavy duty, large microfiber towel.
And all in the shade, don't want the car drying up because of the sun.
Any real detailing shop where they do paint corrections, can instruct you on the specifics.
There are a couple of Californian TeslaTubers with affiliations or experiences with various detailing shops.

  • @motonosity

You can 100% get the swirls (micro scratches) out. The car just needs basic paint correction. You can do it yourself with supplies less than $100, or could have it done professionally for a few hundred. A good polish and wax job will do wonders! With the right public charging routine, namely charging near where you would spend time anyway, it's really not a problem to keep an 80 or 90% state of charge (also works out to about 80 or 90% Level 2 and the rest Supercharging, usually before/after trips). Hey, Shelby, enjoyed your video. I'm not surprised you love your Model 3. I love mine, too. Best car ever. Just a word of advice on home charging. An extension cord is fine as long as it and the circuit you plug into can handle the amps your car is drawing which is limited to 12 amps when using the 120V adapter. If your extension cord is the heavier duty 12 gauge wire, you should be fine. The charring of the plug tells me that you are getting arcing in the outlet. I would have that outlet replaced with a higher quality one.

Yeah definitely get a outlet on the wall for the charger or the extension cord might catch on fire.

Hear ya, Shelbs! That’s why I went with white (wouldn’t see the swirls nearly as much) and did the full wrap. That was exactly my concern too. Can’t wait for 🔋 day next week!

I just went over a year and 20k miles on my model 3 and I love it! Yes my car is better now than when I picked it up a year ago with the WiFi updates. I use FSD for most my driving and yes I pay attention but I feel it does well.

Nice video Shelby! Been waiting for a 1 year review. Sucks you don't have level 2 charging. Are you saving for your own place? Maybe a starter condo or town home? Interest rates are super low right now. Just curious

Great video Shelby! Word of advice as a detailer, never go to a car wash for anything! Go to a dedicated detailing company. There are tons in your area. Never too late to get a ceramic coating, I would suggest getting it done. GL!

I discovered this vlog when you first bought your Tesla. I bought my Model 3 shortly before you did, and my one-year review is just as enthusiastic as your review. I have found, on a road trip, that some Superchargers are a little difficult to find. One was way in the back of the parking lot, and another was inside a multi-level parking garage that charged $1 to enter the garage. It seems that most Superchargers in rural areas are along the Interstate highways, so our road trips need to use Interstate highways. Maybe the Supercharger availability is better in California because that is the home of Tesla Corporation and probably the most concentrated location of Tesla owners.

  • @asianx7

Shelby you need to be using TeslaFi, it basically connects to the car to get data. I assume you're not because you can quickly look up how much charging you're doing. It also tracks a bunch of other stuff like tracking miles driven, charging, driving efficiency, and maps of driving activity. Pretty cool.

The supercharger map that was used, it's quite out of date. MT, ND, MN I-94 corridor is up and running for over a month.

The scratches are just in the clearcoat. I would recommend getting an orbital polisher and some good polishing compound and you can get them out. Since your car is black it would anyway be a good idea to polish it every now and then to bring back that new, shiny look.

  • @B0BHW
    @B0BHW 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Love your channel Shelby. And love the way you take responsibility for your own mistakes. Kudos! A good car detailer can sort your paint swirls for you and yeah, I'd get it wrapped in clear PPF if I were you. That's what my wife and I did with our Model 3. We're typically driving 80 to 90 miles per day, so an overnight charge here in the UK costs us around 80p (100 cents US). What's more every couple of weeks (sometimes more often) our provider, Octopus Agile gives us the electricity free or even pays us to fill up the car! No joking. It's great to be living in the UK!

Awesome it's good to know how the Tesla is looks really cool and good to see your happy with it. Okay those scratches are only in the clear coat so they can be buffed out now if some are a little deep just for buffing then a light sand wet say 2000 grit then buffing would fix it. If any of them go through the clear coat to the base coat then that panel would have to be resprayed. if you do get it looked at again I recommend going to a spray shop not a car wash detail place anyway good luck whatever you do and thanks for letting us know all the cool thing about your Tesla.

When you wash a car make sure to only use a wash mit in a straight line (easier to paint correct if scratched) and make sure not to use a towel or mitt when there is dirt/ dust since it will scratch it

The way the extension cord is discolored, I'm not sure if it's the extension cord. Loose and ill fitting outlet would make light contact and heat up the prong end which is what this seem to show. I'd check the outlet to make sure it's rated for 20A to be safe. 20A is T shaped slot on one side of contact instead 15A which is two parallel slots.

I love this video! I've been researching Tesla Model 3s for about a month now. Your videos have completely hooked me into buying one! I completely think that they are the future so might as well save up and buy one while im young. It will take me about 3 years to save up for it to the point where i can comfortably afford monthly payments but i'm excited to eventually get it! Did any of your family have a hard time understanding why you are buying a tesla over a regular gas car? My family has already started to not believe in me, they would just rather me buy a different car. 😔

Congratulations of one year with your Tesla!! You have done well to get a decent extension cord. However it does look like it is about to wear out. I'd replace it if I were you. Its normal for EV charging cords to get warm. If you plan on being in your apartment for a good while longer then maybe step up to a 10 gauge extension cable.

Awesome video as always Shelby. Btw, the car does indeed already stop for stop signs and red lights on its own. You just have to have purchased FSD.
