A few things to keep in mind for any Tesla owners considering this but are concerned they'd never get renters at a good rate: 1. Shelby lives in CA, the epicenter of Teslas where Model 3s are like Honda Accords, making it hard for any single one to stand out and reducing the cachet. Anywhere else, Teslas are harder to find, thus increasing the likelihood someone rents yours. 2. You are wonderful! These vids are right up my alley and they seriously bring me so much joy to watch them. I had only discovered your channel yesterday btw!
If I had a Tesla I wouldn't let it out of my sight and I certainly would never let a stranger anywhere near it. In the time of Coronavirus I would need to fully decontaminate it before and after and have insurance to prevent being sued. My insurance company would anyway probably raise my premium to the stratosphere before I could rent it out. Also in the UK I am pretty sure I would never see the car again.
I would never lend my car to a complete stranger. My car is one of my babies. She is beautiful and saves alot of gas. She also get me to work and back. Really reliable, and never failed me once. 11,950km on the dash.
Great video Shelby. I just purchase a Porsche Macan S and the idea was for Turo as I live in Vegas. This video answered so many of my questions thank you. I am hesitant about immediately putting it on Turo only because I literally just got it and there is that anxiety that you talked about that I definitely have so for now nope. Thank you for the profit breakdown at the end that was helpful I swear you are the best at breaking things down in plain terms, I always feel like we are just having a conversation
Great idea for many people, especially those who can’t afford their car, but I would never rent my Model 3. I’m sure renters would “enjoy” it too much. LOL
Great video Shelby and thank you for answering the question on if you would do it again along with the great point of if the stress is worth it for the income.
I was nervous for you too, Shelby. I didn't know renting one's car out was a thing now. Wow. The Air BnB model has really paved the way for individuals to overthrow the established, name-brand chain hotels and car rental places. Interesting concept. I think I'd be a wreck if I rented my car out like this.
I knew someone who rented their Tesla Model X. They thought everything was fine until the battery started mucking up. Turns out, the renter drove over a speed bump too fast and damaged the battery underneath the car. I personally wouldn’t rent my car, but at the same time it is a 2018 Metallic Silver Subaru XV (Crosstrek for Americans), and not a Tesla. But I do love my car.
@@renjit9044 We found out how brutal the car washes we're years ago when we put our van through one. It immediately ruined the clear coat. 😬 Our TESLA is handled with kid gloves. 😃
Teslas have notoriously thin and soft, water based paint on them. What this means is that scratches can buff out more easily, but they also scratch very easily and thin aluminum panels also dent with little provocation. Best to get it vinyl wrapped ASAP when you first get one new.
No way that Tesla are that cheap. You wouldn’t understand how badly I want a Tesla S. It’s 400K usd in Singapore, plus I need a landed house to be able to charge it, that would be 3million USD in total. You guys are lucky cars are so cheap.

As a trader I have been able to understand that there are two sides when it comes to crypto and everyone has there opinions when it comes to choosing sides, though I am not kicking against hodl , but I see it as an odd and old strategy to make profit of the market
you can take advantage of the market involving yourself in day trading or copying trade alert from a professional trader that understand the market and use strategy to generate signals daily to make profit to grow your portfolio as I have been doing with Mr Marcos Romero
the past 5 weeks and I have been able to day trade to grow my initial 0.8btc to 6.8btc which you would rethink and see that trading is better/profitable Mr Marcos Romero daily signals is very accurate and always yeilds a positive return on investment
I agree it sounds like we should be taking some meticulous notes on their financial Savvy and there 8 figure portfolio That's because most people can't see to freedom from their face and think their own expense on a car is there payment and insurance Nobody factors in depreciation maintenance increased intervals for all that I would probably have to rent my car out a dozen times before would even cover a set of tires for my car But I guess if you want to pretend to be a big shot and have a nice car If you make 60 grand a year you shouldn't by over $25000 car That means if you buy a $75000 Tesla you should make hotter than 180 to 200 grand a year minimum And of someone made that kind of money they wouldn't be renting their car out Unless they had some sort of serious addiction And just think how many hours you have to spend sorting stuff out if something does happen if u make 60k a year 40hrs wk u earn just under 40 an hour So you spend 15 to 20 hours sorting that stuff out that's another 1000 In unaccounted for expense Unless you don't value your time
I can imagine that the self-driving feature is a TH-cam vlogger’s dream. Finally no vlogs giving us viewers anxiety from watching a vlogger talk to the camera while driving!
The night mare scenario with Turo is more than the potential damage to the car. It's very hard to get full payment from a Turo insurance claim. Shelby did not factor in the depreciation/wear&tear to the car value.
That car detailing was pretty expensive if someone was to actually do this they probably would want to go to a subscription service car wash that would be a lot cheaper in the long run. Also I don’t know if you would make a lot of money if it wasn’t wasnt a semi luxury car because the couple seemed to care more about the experience itself than the actual car
My husband and I have two Chrysler 300c (2016) and we Turo out one of them. We just started doing this last month and have had our first rental for 3 weeks. We will see how it goes when we get it back this weekend.
Wow! Just went to Turo to look at prices for renting a Tesla in Philly...for the 12 Teslas listed, prices range from $149-$325!! My guess is this is because there are way fewer people renting their Teslas around here, as opposed to the LA area. Great video and awesome topic!
You can definetly rent cars for a cheaper price. A Tesla though, I'm not sure- truthfully, I dont know much about the brand. When you get into renting nicer cars or luxury brands, I would say $150-$300 is a normal rental fee. Crazy, isnt it?!
Do not forget to deduct some cash for wear. Tires, components etc. It all needs to be taken into account as well. Just a tip from old O/O of tractor/trailer trucks. If you expect to rent lots and do not think about wear and tear of the vehicle it will bite you in the butt later on. Good luck and stay safe.
I love Turo I usually rent sports cars I’ve been wanting to drive you can even rent exotics I drove a Ferrari 458 last year! I listed my car as well, had about 3 rentals and it went smoothly.
Rented my Model 3 and it was wrecked and full of trash, gave back with low battery, and went 113mph as I checked the app. Turo didn’t even reimburse me for the damage.
Exactly what was wrecked? What damage occurred? Body damage (dents, scratches), tire rash, upholstery damage, or just usage, dirt, and trash? How much did it cost you to repair?

@@simeasy43 Yeah not cool at all. It seems like at least they should've covered the broken front lip and rim rash. I bought my M3P largely based on my Truro experience (Boston area) back in 2018. 3 blocks away from pickup a teen crossed in front of the M3 and said “nice car!” (a first time for me).
My wife won't let me put our sr+ on turo for fear that the driver gets into an accident. Turo has 750k insurance but they are worried sent Turo not you. I think it's worth the risk. Teslas are perfect for this because they cost less per mile to operate.

The first time(and only time) I used Turo was a couple weeks back actually and it was as a client. Around the end of September for a weekend. Anyway, I booked a trip from Dallas to Seattle. And when I arrived to the Tacoma airport, the destination to where the car was located was a little over 30 minutes(That uber ride was pricy lol). So, once I arrived to the destination to where the car was, the owner had actually left the vehicle's keys inside for me since he was out of town which I thought was weird since I am a stranger to him, but whatever. Once I put the cars in the ignition, the car wouldn't start!!! I was so mad, I called him to notify him and he said "Well, I just had the car fixed by the mechanic yesterday", HE COULDN'T HAVE LET ME KNOW THIS BEFORE I FLEW TO THE OTHER HALF OF THE COUNTRY!?. However, I calmly told him "Oh ok, well shit happens, I guess I'll just take another uber from here to my hotel then. Just keep me posted then". He then said "Well, go ahead and do that, I'll try to find someone to come take a look at it tonight". I paid, another hefty sum of money to be ubered from the Turo destination to downtown Seattle to where my hotel was. (30+ minute trip and expensive) And guess what that dang-on pos did? HE CANCELLED my booking once I arrived to the hotel and I couldn't find a car or do anything I wanted since I was left without a vehicle. After being on the phone with Turo for 3 hours (no exaggeration), they found me a last-minute car, (yay! So i thought). I in turn had to repay $250+ dollars AND an uber to drive me 40+ minutes the new Turo location. Turo said they would reimburse my uber rides but they never did. I spent my first day in Seattle crying in frustration and nervously laughing at every major obstacle I encountered. Y'all, Turo is great, if everything goes according to plan. It's horrible if you have to deal with customer service.
In the UK at least, the insurance for this would be astronomical. Basically you would be running a car hire company with everything that entails - tax returns, book-keeping, as well as the company grade insurance. If you don't declare to your insurer or tax man that you are hiring out, and the customer crashed it, you would be in for a _very_ high high jump.
Hahaha I can totally see where Shelby is coming from in terms of letting a stranger drive her own car for days..I have the exact same concern but I've always wanted to give it a try. Maybe it's my time to rent my model 3 out! Thanks for another great content!
Question about renting your car out, how does Turo remove the liability of you being the owner and someone else running over someone and killing them? How would you not be sued as well as the driver? Ae we know lawyers will go after everyone with money in a case like this. Just seems very dangerous to let strangers take your property while you are still ultimately responsible the car?
We rented our Toyota Highlander on Turo for a long time starting in 2011. It returned with body damage three times. Since then Turo has stopped providing insurance for people who rent their cars out - you now have to specifically pay for additional insurance. This cut into my profits enough it was no longer worth it to me. Also I rented out my Nissan LEAF. Some good experiences but one woman absolutely trashed my car and it had to be repaired - it was awful. Plus at that time people had no idea how to deal with electric cars.
Thank you for your really helpful review of Turo. I was thinking about listing my Cybertruck when it arrives, because I do have two cars, and early on it should bring a very high price to rent. Still on the fence, but at lest I have an idea of what's involved. Great video!
Don't do it! If it gets damaged, their claims process is a nightmare. My car was damaged and not useable for 2 months (half of that time was because I was waiting on their adjusters)

I've used it as a renter for about a year and a half with only one bad apple out of all my guests which is about fifteen. The car is a bmw convertible and is rented mostly from memorial day to leaf peaking fall. Yes you can set your prices for each and any day.
Never heard of Turo before so each time she mentioned it prior to this video, I kept wondering why Arturo was such a big deal. I couldn’t wait to see who Arturo was.....
I worked at a car rental counter. Just FYI lots of the people who rent using turo are those who CANT rent a car from a real rental company. That means they don't have a credit card or can't pass a credit check. Meaning more at risk renters who may damage or steal a car.

@Shelby Church ... you forgot depreciation based on millage which is about 0.30$ per mile... therefore once someone make 210 miles the value of your car has drop by 63.00$. Therefore it does not make sense to rent a fairly new car because you will always loose money.
Honestly, I Got afraid for her 😂 and I dont even own a car
turo has a one million dollar insurance policy for each car you rent out to people
Nah, you're overreacting
I would never lend my car to a complete stranger. My car is one of my babies. She is beautiful and saves alot of gas. She also get me to work and back. Really reliable, and never failed me once. 11,950km on the dash.
Matthew Carley btw they just lowered it to $750000
Great video Shelby.
'I dont know what that scratch is... I could've done that!' lol had me laughing out loud.
Thank you for making videos for us Shelby🧸💝
Great idea for many people, especially those who can’t afford their car, but I would never rent my Model 3. I’m sure renters would “enjoy” it too much. LOL
😂😂 true that! Btw, I also have have a channel myself if you want to check it out
Keep in mind that with Teslas you can lock the speed limit on the app so anyone borrowing can't go above.
I really love these type of videos! Love shelby’s channel!
Remember you can use the miles they put on the car as a tax deduction!
They totally scratched your car and created swirl marks at the car wash.. can just tell from their wash technique..
Hoxzle Wan those were there long before that car wash haha
ahh, a fellow OGer!
That’s why I like metallic paints.....they don’t show swirl marks.
I’ve been wait for this video!!! Hope your surgery went well👍
I just bought a $65k Model 3 and I was like “Mine! It’s all mine! No one else can drive it!” Lol
They really 65k? Lmao 😂
No way that Tesla are that cheap. You wouldn’t understand how badly I want a Tesla S. It’s 400K usd in Singapore, plus I need a landed house to be able to charge it, that would be 3million USD in total. You guys are lucky cars are so cheap.
ping pong in the uk it’s 50k
@@Pong_ping95 what in the 400k usd?
Base Model 3 in the U.S. goes for $38k, autopilot included.
You need to take an extra car and use the money as a deposit to fix up your vehicles, especially because Turo/other car sharing platforms' insurance can deny your claim, even if you're on an expensive protection plan(60/40%)! You can also go to a used car dealer and buy the car, those cars won't need as much repair work. You want to go to a pay here buy now lot. Certified used lots charge too much, but the cars are in good condition, however. We are experiencing great success as hosts, because RAC centers are charging too much. Once RACs lower their prices- we will feel it. Now is the time!
Nothing more wholesome than using a Tesla stock to afford a Tesla i'm doing the same😊😊
I still see Cryptocurrency as one of the best digital investment and I totally love the technology when it comes to the largest Crypto asset Bitcoin.
As a trader I have been able to understand that there are two sides when it comes to crypto and everyone has there opinions when it comes to choosing sides, though I am not kicking against hodl , but I see it as an odd and old strategy to make profit of the market
when the market goes bearish investors/traders looses there investment which is very painful
you can take advantage of the market involving yourself in day trading or copying trade alert from a professional trader that understand the market and use strategy to generate signals daily to make profit to grow your portfolio as I have been doing with Mr Marcos Romero
the past 5 weeks and I have been able to day trade to grow my initial 0.8btc to 6.8btc which you would rethink and see that trading is better/profitable Mr Marcos Romero daily signals is very accurate and always yeilds a positive return on investment

I love the dedication to educate us on how to make money, you had to rent out your car. This is some good information.
Shelby did not factor in the depreciation/wear&tear to the car value.
i rented my ford edge on turo once. The girl was shady about returning it. never again

Not to mention the how the utilization rate per month and mileage will cause further effect.
You can also do a clear wrap on the front of the car so you don't have to worry about little things like rock chips or minor nicks and scrapes.
Great video and awesome topic!
is it just me or this a high price for renting a car?
You can definetly rent cars for a cheaper price. A Tesla though, I'm not sure- truthfully, I dont know much about the brand. When you get into renting nicer cars or luxury brands, I would say $150-$300 is a normal rental fee. Crazy, isnt it?!
Caitlin Schaefer wow brb, driving my car to Philly and leaving it there 😂

I wouldn’t rent my car out, but it’s a cool option to be the “rentor”.

What an interesting video that you have shown us today. Thanks for sharing your life and times with us that watch your channel. Outstanding job young lady. Well done.
I'm thinking of buying a new car and renting it out on turo.but I haven't decided on what type!
So interesting! I feel like I’d be too anxious to do this with my own car, but now I really want to rent a Tesla for a few days myself. 🤣
Nice I'm totally gonna rent some fun cars on turo after this. Never thought of doing that :)
LMAO “Please take care if it” 😂😂😂. I use the Tesla app when one of my three sons take my wife’s Tesla ! Would I rent my Porsche 911....Hell no !
Hahaha I can totally see where Shelby is coming from in terms of letting a stranger drive her own car for days..I have the exact same concern but I've always wanted to give it a try. Maybe it's my time to rent my model 3 out! Thanks for another great content!
Especially a stranger that most likely despises white people 😮😮😮
Question about renting your car out, how does Turo remove the liability of you being the owner and someone else running over someone and killing them? How would you not be sued as well as the driver? Ae we know lawyers will go after everyone with money in a case like this. Just seems very dangerous to let strangers take your property while you are still ultimately responsible the car?
Im not a lawyer buy from experience ...registered owner of a vehicle can get legally sued even if they have nothing to do
@@yochikasexy exactly, this is why I would never do Turo and put myself at that kind of risk.
If anything, outside of earning some extra spending money, you end up with a very clean car.

Imagine what happened to the world recently, with COVID-19 shutting down several industries, and yet people are still making cool cash from investment platforms
I think this pandemic has taught people the importance of multiple streams of income unfortunately having a job doesn't mean security. So I really appreciate the transparency that's giving people a fighting chance during these troubling times
This pandemic it's unlike a receison, you know where you stand, no business is full of proof at the moment it's all down to spending and how much money a person has available to them at this current time moving forward I feel online business is the way forward and that's where you find most local businesses from now on
Yet most people ignore that they automatically think they have last part all figured out, and it's a mistake
This is 100%true self made millionaire like Warren Buffett and Bill gates, never made it depending on paycheck neither were they salary onwer. I think investment should be on any wise one's list and currently all of it is online.in a month or two you'd be ecstatic about the decision you've made
Another massive income idea should be trading to be more precise, the forex market or Gold(ETF). I have been investing in this avenues for a while now and my investment has been great with profits coming in constantly

I worked at a car rental counter. Just FYI lots of the people who rent using turo are those who CANT rent a car from a real rental company. That means they don't have a credit card or can't pass a credit check. Meaning more at risk renters who may damage or steal a car.
Shelby paid $28 to get her car washed and I, on the other hand, complain when I have to pay $5 to get it washed...
When you getting money in you’re not too worried about money out... it all depends on how you manage your money though

$28 for a car wash?! That’s so expensive! 😭😭😭
Even in NYC it's $10 for an exterior wash, never heard of anywhere near that high.
@Shelby Church ... you forgot depreciation based on millage which is about 0.30$ per mile... therefore once someone make 210 miles the value of your car has drop by 63.00$. Therefore it does not make sense to rent a fairly new car because you will always loose money. But once your car has more than 120,000 miles, it could make sense to lease your car 8 to 10 years from now.
Shelby knows the cops could pull over and ticket the car driving without a front license plate but rents it anyway, nice!
Depends on the state
Arizona not required so I assume same in Cali..
