Shelby, just a quick note around 1:40 you mentioned they took LiDAR and then took showed the article about radar. Tesla has never used LiDAR controversially, but radar was in fact removed moving to the camera only system.
I’m a similar age demographic as yourself and own a Tesla standard Range Y. I have radar and don’t experience phantom braking. Agreed with a lot of the points here. Love the car but have a lot of gripes with it. Enough to question what my next car will be.

    • @jpq21

The Teslas that don’t have radar (not specific to Y’s) are no different from older cars with radar that now use the vision based AP/FSD. Shelby was lying when she said she’s only had it happen twice, and the other girl was exaggerating like crazy.

I have a 2019 model 3. glad we have radar. would not buy a car that has any of these features that relies solely on cameras. Cameras dont see through fog but radar does.
We love how the car drives, its comfy, roomy, handles well, accelerates well. All in all a great car. BUT we hate the infotainment system, lack of physical HVAC systems, we bought it when the data plan was included but they took that away so now it is just a dumb bluetooth speaker bc im not paying $10 a month just to have the car use spotify, etc. Suffice it to say, we dont regret it because in 2019 there werent many options for EVs. But moving forward, my money will go elsewhere.
Also, we have a mercedes sprinter van (turning it into a camper van) that has adaptive cruise control that frankly does a better job with accelerating and decelerating than the Tesla. The tesla is so jerky

If she’s having constant problems with phantom-breaking it would probably solve it if she recalibrated the cameras. Go to Controls > Service > Camera Calibration > Clear Calibration. I’ve never had an issue with it in my car even once! That should definitely help if not eliminate the problem all together.

The first thing I do when I get a car is tint-all windows including sunroof even windshield (not legal California). Aberrant behaviors Braking, signaling usually happen in the same spots. Even with these issues I would not consider other makes-Tesla safety, engineering, software, charging, etc. My model S has 175k miles. Very reliable (replaced 12v battery, Front suspension parts). You have so many issues you've never bothered to call them to have them check the AC unit and key card connectivity❓ So basically your cabin is 100° driving and clearly your AC isn't working. Most normal people would call for a service appointment❗ So, instead of suffering through wouldn't it make sense to make an appointment❓ My & my father's 2022 Model Y Performance's neither vehicle have these issues. Which leads me to believe that it's a defective model and needs a technician to go over it.

Sorry Shelby, the Model 3 and Model Y are NOT luxury cars. They are "basic transport" that have lots of tech functions to help you (when they work). I agree, the Model S and Model X are luxury cars. There are BIG differences/attention to detail on the factory line when building, then again, the Model 3 costs $45-65k and the Model S costs $85-135k. Big difference. Lots of folks who've never owned a luxury vehicle before believe that Tesla is luxury. When it, in fact, is not. it has leather and wood, but when you've experienced TRUE luxury, you really realize how much Tesla lacks. Even the S and X, while nicer than the 3 & Y, aren't luxurious, ESPECIALLY in comparison to its competition. I wish more people would get over Tesla and recognize they're the Apple of the car industry. I traded in my Tesla M3P for a BMW i4 M50 and will NEVER look back.

For the phantom breaking, my vision only model 3 has had no major issues. It used to be common for it to phantom break on normal roads when a large truck or semi was coming in the opposite direction. It happened EVERY time. So I’d just press on the accelerator as the truck got close and it would be no issue. They have fixed that in the last several months and I haven’t had any issues. The only time I’ve had it break on the highway is when a car in front or beside you crosses over their lane line. If you are not paying complete attention you would probably not even notice, but the car does and will slow down to avoid an accident. And in any of these situations I’ve never had it completely slam on the breaks, just slow down fairly quick. I’m sure some people have it worse and in different situations but it has been significantly improved since the vision only was released. And there is no doubt they will continue to improve it. I think Tesla has absolutely proven that pure vision is totally capable with their FSD beta.

It is great advice that it is a tech car, not a luxury car. The quality of the exterior and interior are that of low-end vehicles. They are nowhere close to the luxury cars of today. I hope she's able to resolve her issues. Two are tech problems, and one is just biting the bullet and getting a shade, but they seem like they could be resolved.

1:35 - Replace "LIDAR" with "RADAR". Lidar uses spinning Lasers. Even if your Tesla has the radar unit, it doesn't mean that it is actually being used. The software decides whether or not to use the data from the radar, and every indication is that it is NOT being used on any Teslas at this time... which is why they stopped putting radar units in the cars.

This Erin girl is really just exaggerating her issues. The phantom braking is just her being overly sensitive when the car is being cautious, and there’s no way the A/C does a worse job than opening the windows, unless hers is just broken (in which case it would still be under warranty).

She can get a 17% ceramic tint on the glass roof, and still keep the views. 17% rear doors and hatch, 30% on the front doors. depending on your states laws you can tint the front window. one thing that drives me crazy about tesla's is the regenerative braking as a passenger. My friend has a model 3 and it literally drives me bonkers anytime we go for a cruise. He has it set to sport mode so the braking is harder. It's so annoying being jerked from the front to the back so often. TESLA DRIVERS STOP DOING THIS TO YOUR PASSENGERS haha.

    • @TritonTv69420

@@ShelbyChurchwell it takes a different type of pedal smoothness that only electric cars have. I also drive a stick shift car so I focus on smooth transitions from speeding up to slowing down because I have to shift. So it's very noticeable to me. What Tesla drivers need to do is focus really hard on not switching from accelerating and decelerating more than say once per 10 seconds. When it's like 5 times in that time period it makes you want to yell at the driver. Like I said though it's the more intense braking mode that is worse because anytime you even let up on the pedal, not off, as you know, it starts slowing down with the brakes. Fun video Shelby keep it up guuurl.

I have a 22 Tesla, drive it on the highway a lot, and have had zero phantom braking in almost a year of ownership. Im pretty sure there is something wrong with Erin's camera calibration, based on how often she says its occurring (she said almost every time she is on the hiway). Thats not even typical for the Tesla phantom braking. Im also thinking she probably doesnt know how to set up the A/C controls, or again, perhaps the A/C just happens to be broken on her car. Yes she should be able to get those things fixed, or perhaps just get a little training from the Tesla staff. If she wants a luxury Tesla, she needs to go with an S or an X - I'm wondering where she got the idea that the Y was a luxury car. Was it the price? Well, a Lamborghini isnt a luxury car either. The 3 and Y are nice, but not plush. But then neither is a comparable priced BMW. Lastly, before I even heard that Erin had her own channel, I figured she did. I got suspicious from her story, suspecting that's why she'd rather not get her car issues resolved (so she complain about them on her channel). Most people I think would have long since taken the car in for support - but seem like she's got alternate motives for letting those issue continue.

*I took delivery of my 2022 Model Y in late May and have put 4,500 miles on it since then without any of these issues. I've spent most of the summer in near 100 degree weather in south Georgia with many trips back and forth from Florida using Autopilot. No issues to report with mine. A big issue with Tesla is their consistency. One Model Y can experience excessive phantom braking & weak AC while another hasn't experienced either. Also, going in with the right expectations will set you up for a more satisfied owner experience. Tesla is essentially a beta car manufacturer and I agree with Erin that it is not a "luxury" car. I would call it a performance vehicle before I would call it luxury. Especially with the extra firm suspension to accompany that instant torque. I've loved having the Model Y so far and it has far exceeded my expectations. I think I went in with the right expectations and I got lucky with build quality. That was a risk that I was willing to take and I'm thrilled every day that I did.*

Anyone one who even consider sh..tron over Tesla is losing me there.
Then to the problems: Phantom braking do not exist, only phantom brain loss of people who think that way. Car have 8 eyes while u have only 2 looking forward only, so if u don't see something, doesn't mean it's not there. Car is just careful and patient, not like most of people.
2 issue is definitely faulty air condition, should just service it, i had similar with mine, after switching new compressor, worked next years just as it should.
3 issue is not using app, even app itself says, keep it running on background for better performance, i noticed it myself, if u close the app, sometimes auto door open function wire blootooth doesn't work, but never it didn't worked if u run the app before u leave home or place u heading to the car. User fault, as 99% of the issues in life are.
PS! and people who think some high price = quality are just fools.

I would suggest getting ceramic tinting for the roof and windows including the windshield. You won’t have to go as dark and can still enjoy the view. Additionally for those hot desert days you can buy the sunshade which will make a world of difference I use it here in Florida only during the summer months to offset the heat. As for the phone key. Please make sure the app stays open all the time and you have background refresh turned on your iPhone and the Tesla app enabled with background refresh. You can enable those background refresh in the settings of your phone. Also please note If you have an iPhone 13 the Bluetooth on that version of the phone is faulty sometimes which contributes to the phone key not working sometimes. Finally also note the driver side pillar is the only one that has the key scanner the other pillar does not have a key scanner so you won’t be able to open the door from the passenger side.
