@@mx3ky41 BS it is worth it. Besides just turn it into the insurance company with footage & they should pay for the damage. Then they go after the car that hit her's insurance company. In Michigan it is no fault & insurance has to pay for damage if you have proof it was not your fault. If no proof anywhere from $250-$1000 deductable.
money vs time..... For $350. t's not worth it.. Most car insurance has a $500 deductible. She probably could i've spent those hours of time making youtube videos and earn waaay more $$$$. Just put the incident's expense in the "shit happens in life" category and move on.

My son backed into a car a few months ago and broke their back light. He left a note even though I never really discussed that with him (he’s a newer driver). The person was so appreciative of the note she told him not to worry about it. A month ago! young boy came to my door to tell me he ran into my son’s car with his scooter the night before. He gave me his information if I needed it for insurance. He did cause some damage, but I told him not to worry about it and how happy I was that he was honest enough to to tell me.

The thing is even if it's a small scratch that no one else will notice, every time you get in your car that little scratch will drive you crazy! Good thing you are going to have it fixed.

Shelby Church is my biggest TH-cam crush. The problem is that I am 10 years older than her and I still drive my Honda Civic that was purchased new in 2006. I am waiting for Tesla to offer a 0 money down 12 month lease for 299/month on a new Model 3.
My VW got side swiped while parked, and the person didn’t leave a note. The car was parked next to mine with some of my car paint on theirs. After some digging of the license plate through my insurance, turns out the owner didn’t have insurance. Today I’m still stuck with a dent in my door that I don’t think is worth fixing, as the cost to fix it is more than the car is worth.

My dad backed into a car coming out of our driveway, and the first thing he did after moving his car back into the driveway was going to tell the owner who lives across the street from us. He was so nice about it and not upset - and happy that he even told him at all. Cause there really wasn't much damage to either car, so he could have just let it go and not tell him, but he didn't, and the guy said he would have been more upset if he didn't tell him. So like, it pays off to be honest about it.
This is most probably someone DUI and the fact that the police doesn’t care is honestly so bad! The whole thing about (we don’t have his face nor him admitting he did it)!!! Now he dod a scratch God knows what he will do next

Cool to see this feature actually work.
But it's not like Sentry Mode detected the event and saved the footage...Shelby was in the car and she manually clicked "save" on camera icon, that's why she still have the footage :D In case of such event Tesla should activate the alarm right away and save the footage as a potential proof and it didn't :D When I leave my Model 3 at a parking garage I have 10 "Sentry events" - people walking nearby my car, but when I did a little experiment and I came close to the car and gave it couple of pushes, it recorded nothing :D So it's not perfect, but when you're in the car and you remember to click "save" when something happens, you have a footage and that's useful. You can also set 'save footage on honk' in settings, so that's nice too.

Lol, you typed in headlight/taillight when you requested service. Yeah, that’s a pretty cool feature on your car. And, even if it was cracked like that your paint would have chipped, eventually. You had to get that fixed. Not a bad price either. 👍🏼

It probably won't help. There is hundreds of videos of keying a Tesla on the internet, police says they can't find the person, sometimes even licence plates won't help. With the keyed car there is really almost nothing you can do, if you don't know that person.

A scratch is STILL a scratch no matter how small! Glad you caught it and also caught the plate in the footage. That's a golden feature for teslas.
I think the sentry mode is certainly useful especially for people that might want to vandalize your car down the side like keying it. But honestly the video quality leaves a lot to be desired.
You can pick up a front rear and inside dash cam setup for $250 bucks and put it in any car. Just have to make sure it has a constant power source so it's on even when the vehicle is turned off.
what surprises me is the low quality on the Tesla cameras and It's also a very narrow field of view.
Most actual dash cams have much higher resolution and have a much wider field of view.
Cool car though. certainly better to have the feature than not. But I definitely recommend adding a decent dash cam set up to any vehicle especially if you live in an area that has a lot of problems like this
Sentry mode is honestly one of the best features on my SR+! I love it!

Now with software update 2020.12.5, you can watch your recorded footage on the big screen in your car! Since your car was parked when it happened, this would fall under "comprehensive" insurance...not collision. Most policies that I've seen have a zero deductible for comprehensive, so it may be worth checking with your insurance to see if you can get reimbursed for the full amount. I just went through something similar with my Tesla, and insurance reimbursed my full amount.

I currently have multiple damages on my Model 3 including paint scratches and dent from hitting the really high curb when turning right. I really don't want to repair through Tesla as it can be costly, but I'm considering using 3rd party method like Bumper Buddies (it was recommended by other Tesla owner), which I may look into after this quarantine stuff is over. I still don't know how much it will cost though, but hopefully it will be much cheaper.

This is a perfect video to show off how important security features like sentry mode are. It also allows you to hold people who are reckless accountable for their hit and runs or whatever stupidity possesses them at that time.
Omg I had a similar experience but I don’t have a dash cam. A teen ran his bike into my car while it was parked and feel on it, there was a lot of damage. I saw it from my bed room window but ran out to talk to him.Two huge dents and two scratches from his handle bars. I contacted the parents they came by and said they’d fix it..... but never did. I contacted them asking them politely to fix it and even gave them a lower amount because my boyfriend works at a body shop. They ignored me, so I called my insurance and they said since it was a “cyclist” they don’t have insurance so I was on my own. I ended up paying my boyfriend to fix it, but it’s the whole principle of it! People suck sometimes, like I’ve personally hit someone else by accident. But I learned my lesson and paid for their car to be fix. Definitely gonna look into getting a Tesla once I graduate uni

For future reference, you can replace those things pretty easily and cheap. Aftermarket side mirrors are around $50 on ebay & amazon. And you could look up a youtube video on how to replace it for your car.

Great video and I totally agree with Sentry Mode being one of the top features of a Tesla right after Autopilot. Glad it wasn't anything terrible, but please tell us more about your 2014 crash. That's crazy :O
Paint on a car isn’t just aesthetic, it’s protective (stopping rust etc). My car is an investment and I intend to make it last. Fixing scratches and minor damage is a total pain but it’s definitely important. I’m glad you’re getting yours fixed!
Doesn’t matter how minimal the damage is....if you hit the car you’re paying for the scratch ANY damages

This would be great for the student parking lot at my school. With all the new drivers and tight spots everyone constantly gets scratches, dents, and bumps
I was hit twice on campus and no one left a note. The first time I was moving in to my dorm, and the car in front of me (that was a parent) backed up INTO my front fender because he had a tow ball, then he just drove away. There's no way he didn't feel that or hear that. The second time I parked my car at midnight in the covered parking garage by my dorm, and the next morning there was a long scratch at rear fender. I knew it's the car parked next to me because there's similar scratch marks. I reported to police department at my university, and they said there's nothing they could do because there's no cameras in garage. Pretty disappointed at my university's parking facility. After those two incidents I installed dash cams in my car.

Good job on knowing which cars have sentry mode. When I knew you were about to explain it i was like oh god she's probably going to botch this and nope you had it all figured out.
With the latest update, with Sentry mode you can review your video footage in the vehicle. I haven’t tried this feature yet, but another youtuber posted how to do it. From what I remember, while you are parked, press the camera icon at the top right area and you can review the Sentry mode footage on the car’s screen. It’s up to you but your insurance will not charge you the deductible since you got the license number of the person that hit you, also the footage. But like you say, you didn’t really want to bother with that, I can understand.

Shelby I know what you mean. My dad and I were involved in a t bone crash last year in July in Pennsylvania. We were there for a carshow and a person told me and my dad and a officer that he didn't see us I don't know how you can miss a red convertible. We had to stay in Pennsylvania for 2 or 3 extra days. My dad had to go back the next month to pick it up. It coasted i think around 4 thousand or 5 to repair it.

My dad bought a brand new car and not even a month later some person came up to it and literally smashed the window and just left didn’t take anything and ironically 2 days before this happened my dads camera stopped working 🙃

Best story ever, if you're from Boston, you know, someone I know sideswiped Whitey's car, stopped and told him, Whitey was very appreciative, told him not to worry, was glad he did the right thing, and said he would have it taken care of himself.
Shelby you should pursue this. My daughter's car was hit & ended up being a hit & run, but my daughter got a picture of the plate, car & driver. The police weren't much help to us either when we made a report BUT our car insurance company was able to track down what insurance the person that hit her car had. Ended up that it was an ex boyfriend of the car owner that was driving but the car owner was still legally responsible. Our insurance company made sure the person at fault had to pay for the repairs via their insurance company. It took a little while but was worth it. Make sure though to always get that police report made. Love your videos Shelby! I want a Tesla so much but was injured in a work accident so can't work anymore to earn enough to buy one so 🤞 crossing my fingers for luck on winning one.💜

Notice the tweet that said good luck getting it fixed also said “I’ve heard”. Some people go to amazing lengths to trash Tesla, some of them have never touched a Tesla never mind ridden in one.
That's a crack in the mirror enclosure and so water will get into it and cause a failure in the wiring. Even worse if there is a camera mounted inside with wires, too. At worse, it could confuse the car software program and shut the whole car down, because programmers don't improve the program until a known failure occurs. You should get it replaced.

Shelby, which usb card do you use for sentry mode on your Model 3? Does sentry mode work well? Whenever this virus is over I wanted to pick up a model y.
U can DIY fix it 4 a lot cheaper. Get a replacement cap off eBay or from a dismantler. Pop off the broken one, snap the new one on and viola!
If they are too close to the line then so are you parked there. But YES Sentry mode and Tesla are AMAZING!
Shelby, make sure that if there is a camera within the rear view housing that it did not sustain any damage, that might be really expensive. It looks like his right rear view hit your left rear view, if karma's a thing and there is justice, his rear view was destroyed! The best part of the video was the calm manner you had in dealing with one of life's little annoyances, you've got better things to be focused on.
Good think is wasn't something more damaging. The cover is easy to replace.
You can get a new mirror cap relatively inexpensive if you search eBay
Shelby, even though you have a Tesla and it has cameras in it. Which cameras would you recommend for cars? I have a 13’ Toyota Corolla and I always get paranoid if someone does a hit and run, but with so many cameras on the market AND if you’re bored, maybe you can do a video on dashboard cameras worth buying? Maybe a set one for the dashboard one for the rear window? Bluetooth? Night vision?I’m asking for too much maybe lmao
