    A coworker of mine has a Mach E and the one big issue he's had was the software messing up. He's taken it in twice for that. The other common issues with his car (and apparently other Mach E's) is the door won't open sometimes due to a software glitch.

    As a Mach-E owner, I was curious to hear your thoughts, so thanks for the video! :-)
    Interesting you said it looks a bit more traditional because, man, people gawk at this car when I drive past like nothing else I've owned.
    I rented a Model 3 for a week, and I disagree about the space. The Model 3 is packed brilliantly as a sedan, but the Mach-E has more passenger space and more cargo capacity in the back (even if not by a ton). It has WAY more storage than a typical gas powered sedan, and beats the tar out of a similarly sized gas powered crossover.

      The Mach E is the top rated EV in consumer reports and I wish I would have waited and got the Mach E because the build quality is much better in the Mach E than the model Y. I get a lot of rattles and squeaks in my Model Y and that's where the traditional automakers have a major advantage because they have been building cars for so long. Overall I like the Model Y and I got a decent deal on it but I'm really worried about it long term.

      Actually there have been very few upgrades. Very few. Trim changes, power trunk, 20” wheels to match the 21” uberturbines on the MYP and light upgrade if you’re lucky. That’s it other than some charge port options.

    • @CL-gq3no
      @CL-gq3no 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TeslaOG, there is a lot more than that. You just aren't aware of them because they aren't "customer facing" items. They are mostly mechanical. For example, the heatpump which improves range quite a bit in colder weather, the li-ion 12v battery, control arms, etc.

    • @TeslaOG
      @TeslaOG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CL-gq3no wow you came up with a couple more👍🏼👏🏼heat pump doesn’t change the range by more than a few miles in the cold already been tested and a lot of them have been craping out - so not much of an upgrade when they are having issues. Control arms aren’t an upgrade at all, just updated to fix a common issue and the 12v battery is a change anyone can make even on their own. You could get better after market control arms too and they would probably be way better than the garbage Tesla would use. I think the suspension on the 3 and Y are horrific and they need air suspension too with the heavy clunky ride they are.

    • @CL-gq3no
      @CL-gq3no 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TeslaOG, other car manufacturers go several years without making ANY changes to their models. Tesla makes changes at least weekly to their production lines. Tesla is applying agile software development practices into the manufacturing space. The vast majority is stuff that customers don't see, but it's still there. A lot of Model Y improvements have been brought into the Model 3 between 2019 and today. The motor controllers for example. The rest of your arguments are either wrong (heatpump efficiency is not trivial in cold weather) or irrational ("customers could have made that change themselves!"). The bottom line is, your original claim that the "Model 3 has changed very little in 3 years" is just obviously wrong.

    My issue with Ford's Mach-E is the charging network. The Tesla network is just so good at the moment, and owning an EV that's critical right now. Based on most reviews, the Mach-E is better than the Model Y, but the charging network is where you could have an issue.

    • @vincenty747
      @vincenty747 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The charging network comes into play if you do a lot of road tripping. That's where Tesla really shines. For the majority of people though charging at home is all you need. I've own a Mach E since July 2021 and I've used public charging twice.

    • @dwayne.891
      @dwayne.891 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn't say it is critical. I weighed the charging network and then thought about how many times a year I would be traveling more than 250 miles at a time (and really its more like how many times a year I will be traveling more than 400 miles at one time as one charge part of the way through I could deal with slower) It would only be times I would need multiple stops that would be a big headache, also in the bay area you often see Tesla's waiting for a charger while the CCS is wide open. Needless to say it would be like 2x a year this would affect me so i went with the Mach E. I may hate those 2 trips a little but the rest of the time I would enjoy the better styling and a peace of mind that when I took delivery the body panels would line up. When i test drove a Y i asked the guy if there is really body issues and he downplayed it while at the same time showing me one of the cars inside where there was an issue. If they can't have their show car put together right I was concerned about the one I would take delivery on. (they said no big deal, when you take delivery on your app you can set up an appointment to get fixed....no thanks!)

    • @vincenty747
      @vincenty747 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@dwayne.891 Pretty much the same reasons why I went with the Mach E: better styling, better ride, and much better build quality.
      On the charging network, it helps to do some homework before heading out. The one piece of advice I got from seasoned EV owners: find charge stations at shopping centers. It's obvious but it makes the world of difference in killing time.

    At the entry level electric car point the Tesla Model 3 is still the best value and with all the options you get as standard, it will still dominate there at that value. The only closest thing that comes close would be the Kia EV6. I’m not sure if the Mustang Mach E is worth the money plus it gets more expensive as you add options to it.
    However the Germans and other car manufacturers are slowly catching up and at Tesla Model S pricing, you have the Mercedes EQS, Porsche Taycan, BMW iX4 and Audi e-tron GT all of which are compelling and better options in terms of driving experience and aesthetic quality so I’d probably lean towards the Taycan if I was after performance but the supercharging network is what also makes Tesla compelling option and the range you can get out of them which is superb in terms of efficiency. Thanks for making this review, hope things are going well with you back in the west coast Shelby and look forward to more videos & vlogs 🙂

The app gives improper data all the time, you can not get accurate trip usage and the car gives only basic info. I am sure there are going to be lots of upgrades but even their promise of OTA Updates has had lots of issues. I've yet to get a single update OTA. I love the Mach-E and chose if over Tesla mostly due to looks and the fit / finish. Also there is an update for the charging slowing down at 80% that is currently dealer only but eventually might be rolled out OTA?

And believe me you can tell from LEDs versus the standard lights that come with stock but not that great. Trust me who somebody drives to work and come home in the dark you notice and a lot of the roads are dry van or no street lights it’s pitch black and you can tell when highlights and taillights have a standard stock lights they’re terrible replace it with LEDs including your turn signals and your fog lights and your parking lights so it’s easy to be spot. Do it for yourself and do it for the people on the road it makes a lot easier to see you from front and behind. Therefore you can tell there’s a vehicle in front of you and behind you and coming onto you.

    To me, the Mach E is in a completely different stratosphere, aesthetically speaking. The Mach E looks like it was designed by a team of car guys who actually care about looks. Just by looking at it, you can see that each line was designed with intention, where they carefully considered the Mustang's heritage and tradition, but also came up with something new and refreshing. And the Model 3.... looks like it was designed by AI lol. But to each their own.

      The Mach E design emphasizes a particular style for the sake of the look (and I think it looks good); the Teslas that it would compete against (both the 3 and the Y) were designed more heavily weighted toward performance (in this case aerodynamic performance). The Mach E has a coefficient of drag of 0.28 while the 3 and y have a coefficient of drag of 0.23. The Mach E may or may not look better as it is subjective, but the Teslas are OBjectively more efficient; in part because of their form and "how they look".

      its a matter of your driving range needed. I have had electric cars only for 4 years (had 2 bolts and then got rid of one and got a Mach E). I have probably in those 4 years had to use a public charger about 5x-6x per year, maybe less. So the hour spent shopping or eating dinner while the car charged is offset by about 52x per year I don't have to spend 10-15 minutes in a gas station, maybe longer if the pumps are full. So in my mind those 40-60 minute session while shopping/eating while charging is offset by not spending 8-10 hours a year at a gas station. I take a couple of longer trips per year I rent a car which is paid for by the fuel cost savings for the rest of the time. Also no oil changes. I hate those because they always try to upsell you. For both of my bolts I had no trips for maintenance other than tires (first scheduled maintenance is at 150,000 miles, but of course that recall is a huge hassle, but my cars worked great). But if there are a lot of 250 mile driving days I do not disagree, also if you live in a cold environment it becomes much less range.
