    This card reads like a YuGiOh card. I play a lot of YuGiOh and a lot of cards are written in this sort of long-form, roundabout way to work with specific combos.

    Just wanted to add a VERY minor side note about Yannik:
    Even though the partner card is not in your deck, you can still search and fail to find for any card that says partner.
    This can be useful because you are allowed to shuffle your deck.
    All partner cards essentially read "When this enters the battlefield, shuffle your deck".
    This can be useful if you want to manipulate the top of your library at all.

    the reason they made this a single ability, instead of two abilities is because they don't want fiendhunter shenanigan's where your leave the battlefield trigger resolves before the etb, causing the permanents to be exiled forever.

    the way she works is:
    she etb's and you exile up to 4 creatures, one per person. once she leaves play, they all come back, and the one that's your creature gets the 2 counters. it's kind of a group huggy "banishing light" commander (you get slightly more upside with the counters, obviously).
    it kinda sucks a little bit because she doesn't pay off any other exile ability, such as blink/flicker effects and whatnot, only her own. unlike ranar, who for sacrificing green in your deck, pays it off INSANELY well. of course, the entire reason this commander is going to be helpful is because it's cheaper than ranar (2UW vs just UWG) and adds the much needed ramp from green. you can always just stuff him in the 99 and he'll still likely kick major ass in this deck.
    furthermore, it's worded this way because fiend hunter's wording is technically split into two effects, and people found a way to use him to just permanently exile whatever it targets by stopping the second half from resolving, basically machine gunning the opponent's board, and they want to make sure that doesn't happen again with any of these cards printed in the future.
    hopefully this helps some people confused in the comments here :D

    You should probably add Suture Priest to your list. It's in your price range and if you get your commander going as part of that infinite combo it'll straight up kill everyone, and/or give you infinite life (should someone not be killable by damage directly)

      Basically
      1) When it comes into play, for each player you may exile up to one target creature that player controls until she leaves play (basically a Banisher Priest except it hits one creature from each opponent and can do the same for you and/or a teammate)
      2) She can't target herself with her own ability.
      3) When she leaves the battlefield and the creatures return, if any return under your control (likely due to exiling a creature of your own earlier, but I believe if an opponent stole a creature you owned and you exiled it with her, it would come back under your control), you put two +1/+1 counters on it.

    11:34, I don't think it works that way with the packleader. Lagrella says "when that creature enters the battlefield, put 2 +1/+1 counters on it" but if they are 1/1 when they enter, it won't trigger the packleader.

    • @keel1701
      @keel1701 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. Garruk's Packleader triggers if they enter with the counters, but if an ability or spell is putting the counters on after it has entered then it did not have the required power when it entered.

    • @keel1701
      @keel1701 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The wording is very specific - she doesn't allow them to "come into play with the counters". It comes into play first, and then you add the counters. Look at Teferi's Time Twist for the different wording that could lead to the Packleader triggering.

      When Lagrella, the Magpie enters the battlefield, exile any number of other target creatures controlled by different players until Lagrella leaves the battlefield. When an exiled card enters the battlefield under your control this way, put two +1/+1 counters on it.
      "Other," is modifying "creatures" not "players."

      @@TheDawnhero I don't think the infinite blinks works with Lagrella due to the Legendary rule. You don't get to exile anything if the permanent doesn't stay on the battlefield.

    I don’t see whats all the fuss about this card.
    It says that it only gets counters when it etb’s and exile createru you don’t control. Most of the cards shown where about exiling your own creature but that doesn’t synergize’s with Lagrella.
    Am I missing something?
    I get that the deck wants to exile stuff but the commander only work with herself… right?

    • @786Demigod

      Exiling and returning your creatures to the battlefield via Lagrella gives them counters I believe. So works when Lagrella blinks your own creatures.

    I know I'm going to receive heat for this, but I honestly really prefer budget deck idea videos over these clickbaity hot takes. I legit mean no offense at all, I REALLY like this channel, but ANYONE can come up with quick takes on a card. However you, Mitch, EXCELL at creating powerful budget decks.

      This is a budget deck tech in itself if you watched the whole video, because he listed about 20 cards for this commander. You fill in the rest. The commander is an uncommon and most of the cards in this will be very affordable.

      I feel you, there's already so many channels doing this, and they atleast go over a few cards at a time, and they also include a few other cards that go with them so they're also pseudo deck tech vids aswell. Mitch has fallen off and it's kind of annoying at this point. It's always pre release season these days, and I miss the regular budget deck techs at this point.

    They're going with the slang term for Magpie, which is essentially a snitch. A Magpie is a person who gossips or snitches.

    A magpie is a bird, same family as ravens, and crows. It can also refer to a person who talks incessantly, or a person who collects and hoards things, usually indiscriminantly. I'm thinking the last definition is the one they intended for this commander.

      This commander much better for combo, Roon is better for late game value. Roon has summoning sickness and can easily be a dead card with being 5 mana and removal being a huge part in commander.
