- The Rock almost starred as Captain Marvel, then Black Adam in a Shazam movie for New Line Cinema, but it wasn't meant to be...
In 2006, New Line Cinema enlisted the help of director Peter Segal to direct a Shazam vs Black Adam movie, but it ultimately never came to pass. Despite having major talent onboard the project, from writer John August to a big name actor in Dwayne The Rock Johnson, the ill-fated movie seemed set up to be a fun blockbuster.
The movie was set to see Billy Batson inheriting the powers of Shazam, in a story very reminiscent of Jerry Ordway's work on the Power of Shazam comic series. As Billy adjusts to his double life as a superhero and kid, an ancient threat emerges from the past that threatens everything.

Honesty, reworking this script, I can see this story, being used for Gunn's new universe, to make it more distinct from the past Shazam movies and have stylized animation like mutant mayhem and spider verse

A pretty neat script, one that could’ve been reworked and used for a great DCEU Shazam film had the Rock been willing to play ball
Getting The Rock to play ball was definitely a problem.
You ever notice how Billy Bastion is more responsible as a kid & immature in the adult form.. with the wisdom of Solomon 🤷🏾♂️
I don’t know. I feel like if Rock played Black Adam back in the day he’d feel better about costarring and playing a fallible villain. I like the “Shazam” we got, it’s just too bad it was….lightning in a bottle.

I am still looking for Affleck's The Batman. I heard it's like Jinchu arc in Rurounin Kenshin. For Summary:
Bruce Wayne and Slade Wilson were 'brothers' in League of Assassin, but they choose different path. Sometime later, Batman was responsible for the death of Joseph Wilson, son of Slade Wilson. Slade had learnt that Batman is Bruce Wayne, he started a Warpath. First he made Wayne enterprise Bankrupt, then he killed everyone that close to Bruce Wayne, and last he unleashed all Arkham Asylum patients to Gotham. All he did to make Bruce suffer. The only one who support Bruce is Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl

Arrow pretty much had Slade do the same thing to Oliver, and releasing everyone from Arkham should always be saved for Bane.

Josh trank, fantastic 4 director, once said something like "in Hollywood, if a studio rep approaches you and asks you if youre a fan of a franchise, you tell them it's your favourite of all time". Whenever I hear press releases from actors, writers or directors saying "I'd been wanting to do a (insert franchise title) project for a long time!", it makes me laugh.

I admire the film that we have in 2019’s Shazam!, and it is a very well done adaptation of the new 52 Shazam story. However, I do think this script would’ve made for a very brilliant and unique film

This movie sounds awesome haha. Still so fucking crazy we got 2 Shazam and a black adam movie and they never even interact lol.
I think about that a lot. Even wilder that every time they tried to connect those two characters, there were forces that actively tried to stop it from happening...

the were supposed to use the JSA in Shazam 2 but couldn't so we got the Peacemaker cast instead haha. It's hilarious that we got closer to venom and spidey meeting up then we did here haha. Really dig these videos!

As serviceable as Shazam 2 was, I thought it was a such a strange move to not either follow up on the Mr. Mind stuff or introduce Black Adam...

Augusts Movie is way better than the mess we did get.
I personally adore the first Shazam, but the whole Shazam/Black Adam series at WB has 1000% devolved into a mess
Like the more serious and exciting tone of this version of Cpt Marvel. The one they did release was just too sugary and campy.
No secret, I REALLY love the first Shazam, but I definitely get that its camp isn't for everyone

They’re actually not in a relationship, during the lab partner scene, there is a line where they have Mary say something to the effect of “The other kids think I have a crush on you, but no offense I don’t like you like that.”

Peter Segal had some wild ideas, for sure.
As far as Bleach goes, anime and manga were never really my thing, so I don't know if I'd be able to do it justice. I never like to rule anything out entirely, but it's *very* unlikely, unfortunately.

I wonder if those Hawk creatures are supposed to be a reference to Hawkman and Hawkgirl because I wonder was a movie for them planned back then?
Interesting story but I wonder why they change Dr Sivana’s name because it’s Thaddeus in the comics and I would have gone for maybe Dr Sivana and King Kull the beastman as the villains where Kull was frozen for a hundred years until Sivana industries found him work him and make him be the killer of Billy’s parents.
I also wondered if the Hawk creatures were somehow Thanagarians- but the script goes out of its way to describe them as more grotesque and mutated, so my assumption was that they weren't.
Sivana is mentioned int he script as Thaddeus, but the scene that he and Adam share in Power of Shazam, he's replaced with the original character Dr. Zehuti- who the script heavily implies to be the Egyptian god, Thoth!

I remember when they originally announced it, and double remember when they were making Shazam (2019) when the Rock was saying how he didn’t know if he was going to play Shazam or Black Adam. And I remember thinking back then ‘Wait, hasn’t he been Adam for *years*?’

@@srstriker6420 Yes, you're right. Joel Silver was producing, and he cast Bullock after working with her on Demolition Man. Others considered later on were Catherine Zeta-Jones, Lucy Lawless and Wrestler, Chyna. Whedon said he always envisaged Cobie Smulders.

This would've been so much better. The kid billy is so much more mature than Shazam Billy, it's embarrassing. Djamon was a horrible choice for the wizard, especially when his head is on Wonder Woman's body, that was a goddamned joke. The fact that his name wasn't "Shazam" from the very beginning is idiotic, etc etc. this character has had a shitty existence since he was first out to page, but Shazam 2 and black Adam, are amongst the worst comic movies ever. Like 90s cap America , blade 1 and 2, daredevil (the directors cut is pretty good though) and punisher 84....oh and , ironically enough, cap marvel, my least fav MCU film
