- In 2009, Warner Brothers commissioned a script based on the DC comics super villain team, the Suicide Squad, the initial script drew heavy inspiration from the John Ostrander run on the comics from the 1980s, featuring characters like Vixen, Captain Boomerang, and the villainous team known as Onslaught. Harley Quinn, Joker, and Enchantress were nowhere to be found.
Though some of the characters and plot ideas are shared between this version of the movie and the 2016 film released by David Ayer, this film featured an entirely different, smaller scale, plot. Though, the movie eventually evolved into the disaster known as Suicide Squad 2016.

I actually enjoyed SS. Being a Marvel guy i didn't know any of these guys apart from Harley so I wasn't upset about any of the differences to the comics.

This movie would’ve been cool as hell and it sucks it didn’t come to fruition and we got the not so good one in 2016. Well at least we have the new one by James Gunn that I saw yesterday. The new one is definitely way better than the 2016 one. My favorite characters from James’s film were Bloodsport, Polka Dot man, Ratcatcher 2 and King Shark

2016's Suicide Squad is a gritty cash grab studio cut, this year's TSS is a gritty war action comedy, and this Suicide Squad would've been a gritty badass heist movie. Task Force X has so much variety and so much potential and I hope they do more movies with various tones and styles.
At this point, I’d LOVE Suicide Squad to be an anthology series where a different director makes a new one every time and it’s wholly their vision, with the only connecting piece being Amanda Waller

So most of the things Waller does with the Suicide Squad is practically legal and is allowed under her own terms.
Despite the confidentiality of Taskforce X though.

In my honest opinion, a Suicide Squad movie would have been perfect if made in the 90s. A real missed potential.
Just cast literally half of the Expendables cast, like:
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis as either Rick Flag or Peacemaker
Denzel Washington, Keith David, Wesley Snipes, or Giancarlo Esposito as Bronze Tiger
Eric Bana or Guy Pearce as Captain Boomerang
Jenette Goldstein as Plastique
Alan Cumming as Ragdoll
Frank Whaley as Polka-Dot Man
Robin Wright as Karin Grace
Anjelica Huston as Enchantress
Any big WWE actor for Blockbuster
And either have Pam Grier or CCH Pounder as Amanda Waller
And have the film be made by Paul Verhoeven who can made it a comedic, gore, and strong story.

This sounds leagues better then Suicide Squad (2016), but I understand why they felt it wouldn't have worked. Feels more in league with early X-Men movies instead of the new MCU standard. Still, this feels like with a bit of polish and the right director it could have been comparable to some of the best of the early years of superhero movies.

This seems surprisingly good for an early 2010s superhero film.
I like this version of the Suicide Squad more than the original movie from 2016 because it focuses more on material elements from post-crisis Suicide Squad and doesn’t have Harley Quinn just to make Suicide Squad famous just like New 52 series.
Overall imo I would’ve added Suicide Squad as tv series cuz they are underrated before New 52 added different members each time.
Some would say 2009 Arrow movie "Escape from Supermax" was the original Suicide Squad. Bummer WB has the worst of nerd traits the keep everything in box and mint condition mindset. If they did all the movies and shows WB would be in the $$$ who cares if audiences are confused the audiences would be entertained and they[WB] would have a thumb up multiple fandoms not be a hit or miss status.
I don’t think they would’ve hired Will Smith for deadshot for this version and I personally don’t get how vixen would’ve been on the squad since she’s a hero
Vixen is most famous for her run in Suicide Squad, so it makes a lot of sense to have her there. She is also one of the few heroes who have a public known identity, with would make her very easy for Amanda Waller to track down and blackmail.
@@acediadekay3793 I had forgotten Wallace would also play the blackmail game with the heroes too I hadn’t considered that as a possibility but I don’t know how well that would work in a general movie release sense it’s a lot easier for someone to get why a villain is bad than to just have a hero on an all villain team stuff like that usually only works when you have some background on what makes a character a hero so you’d have to show them doing good at some point and have the blackmail be shown which would only be so able if it took up a part of the beginning or if the had this be a sequel to a stand alone vixen movie

What if(and this is just a different perspective and scenario) Ayer actually used this version together with the version of the movie but with different changes.
1) Story and plot
-in the original story we have the suicide squad aka the Task force X arrested by Waller, some of them without being arrested without them being aware and taken to bell rave. which by then are briefed and then sent to stop onslaught from releasing fallout. Deadshot one of the villains in task force X has a daughter he doesn't want to introduce himself to and Rick flag wants his medals back after failing a mission. the other characters including Waller don't have coherent goals.
-In the revised edition, since its connected to the DCEU then the story should go like this, Amanda Waller who is known by the espionage and military community as "the wall" and is the head/director of ARGUS to take out Adam reed an international criminal in control of the organization of the Fist of Cain that has obtained the mythological "Pandora's box" which happens to be the mother box that was found in world war 2 Germany. The one giving the report is Dexter Tolliver a general in the government. Tolliver tells Waller that the job needs to be off the books and if the mission fails the US government would take no responsibility for the repercussions.
-Waller then plans task force X and with help of Argus arrests the suicide squad.
2) characters
-the first one is Rick flag who has trauma over losing his men in the mission in Bialya of obtaining a weapon which rick flag doesn't know is the spear of destiny, that was taken from the neighboring state. He is haunted by the failure and the mistakes he did and decides he wants to atone for his failures and get his medals back. He gets a chance by working in Argus and is giving the lead of being a leader of Task force X.
-The second character is Deadshot. In this version Deadshot's daughter(Zoe Lawton) is actually looking for his father and Deadshot knows his being searched for but doesn't want to meet his daughter. Floyd Lawton doesn't want to be a father because all he knows is pain and death and didn't want to raise a child in that environment. He however protects and watches over his daughter with his excellent marksmanship and is a weapon expert and hand to hand combatant, since she(Lawton's daughter) leaves in the crime ridden slums called the glades in star city. Lawton also pays her daughter's college fund anonymously without leaving any trace.
-The third character is vixen. In this version Mari McCabe is already the vixen but is framed for murdering his foster father Charles "chuck" Mccabe, who was murdered by some mafia goons working for Johnny Viti. Mccabe hand gambling issues and owned a lot of money to Viti. Mari saw to take revenge and took lives of several of Viti"s henchmen with the use of the Tantu totem, a power that is used to enhance and mimic the strength, abilities and behaviors of any animal. she was charged of manslaughter and taken to prison until the "wall" came to recruit her to task force X.
-The fourth would Captain boomerang. George Harkness who was abused as a child by his father, a renowned owner of an Australian toy company becoming a very cunning and ruthless sociopath. His quest was to come to America to search for a better life in crime and chose central city. with insight into the native Australian tool that is the boomerang and is extensive knowledge on the quantum knowledge of teleportation, fitted in his long coat with a device that has link of jumping from one distance to the other by use of his especial energized boomerangs. he also carries other boomerangs that has explosives, sharp blades and other killer uses.
-The fifth character Killer Croc. Waylon Jones who has a very congenital medical condition that makes look like a reptilian crocodile, that used to be a former circus carnival performer that wrestled other Meta humans in Tampa Florida. he left his Aunt who abused him, to persue this kind of career and saves up money to go to Gotham, to look for a cure for his medical condition since he heard that there was a scientist who cures Metahumans. The doctor turns out to be a scam and with money stolen from him, he decides to steal from banks to survive and take work from the mafia families, in Gotham as the muscle who takes care of the dark knight and keep him out of mafia business.
Argus catches all this individuals plus the others in the 2016 theatrical release, tells them to take down Reed and retrieve the box, to Valtho island where the international terrorist organization and religious Cult Fist Of Cain who hired the onslaught and other mercenaries to take care of Task Force X.
The best Suicide Squad: Deadshot, Boomerang, Black Spider, Plastique, King Shark and Rick Flag.

I would go with Rick Flagg jr, boomerang, Capt cold as regular recurring members.
Most of what’s described is very off character, especially deadshot and boomerang, for everyone being kinda nice and learning a lesson at the end, but at least it sounds like a fun film

Frankly Speaking this original script sounds only mildly better if not just as bad as the movie we actually got. I'm sure there's a lot more to the script than what it is able to be covered in a 17 minute video but from what's provided here it seems like the only characters with any character development are Deadshot and Rick Flag.
And the development for those two characters is very surface-level. Beyond that all the rest of the characters seem to just be there for the sake of action sequences and some characters like Vixen or just horribly horribly depicted. But really my bigger problem is that it sounds like a Fast and the Furious or Transformers movie Zero logic, nothing makes any sense things just happen for the sake of explosions and fight sequences which can certainly be fun in its own right but doesn't make a "good" movie. I mean the final scene with Deadshot on the bus and Rick flag giving him his stuff back is probably one of the most a brain dead, not a single ounce of thought put into it ending I've ever heard of for a movie.m Because you know when prisoners are getting on a bus to be transported they let them carry duffle bags with them. WTF? There's very clearly a reason why the majority of this writer's we're never actually produced: because he's a horrible writer. The Suicide Squad definitely deserves better. Thank the Gods for James Gunn.
It really wouldn't have been hard to tie this script into the other movies. Instead of finding Fallout, they find the mango seed that makes Brimstone, all they know is that it's alien technology and, strangely, it was found in a dig (back from the first attack on Earth by Darkseid) so it comes down to stopping 'Onslaught' from activating it and releasing the creature. After all, in the comics, the first mission of the Squad involved Brimstone.

They tried to activate it and it went horribly wrong, creating the town in Justice League.
They mention that town in Suicide Squad, maybe have some action there or show the disaster in flashback, then when it's mentioned in Justice League there is that moment of connection.
Vixen has never been a villain in the comics, so I'm not sure why they wanted to portray her as a supervillain in the original script for the Suicide Squad movie. In the comics, Vixen had joined the Suicide Squad only because she had wanted to get a better handle on her powers after she killed a drug lord who had killed some supermodel friends of hers. I wonder if the writer of the original script saw that Vixen was with the Suicide Squad and just assumed she was a villain.
I mean to be fair. They could rework this into Sucide Squad 3. Seeing as they didn't use any characters besides Rick,Deadshot, Amanda, and Boomerang. Maybe switch Vixen with Bronze Tiger or someone else. Would like to see Vixen have her own movie.

The fact that Harely was not in the SS and that Deadshot's issues with his daughter were downplayed sold me on the script.
They also nailed Boomerang as a character

The use of Fallout is cool, would've really loved that. Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn wouldn't have existed if this had been the final movie, that's gotta be the biggest upside to it

I guess they couldn’t use the villains real name: Jihad. Plus Vixen was a member of justice league Detroit before joining the squad. Why would they say she’s a villain? That’s just dumb
The script frames Vixen more as ‘I made one mistake and now I’m a criminal’ than out and out villain, but I personally figured she’s there because she also appears in that original John Ostrander run.
@@HemmasStudios_ yeah that's exactly the idea of her being the criminal and then later making a solo Film of vixen struggling with family drama of her sister and uncle who killed her biological parents, since it's connected to the DCEU I figured they introduced vixen in this version and then create a black female led character and also connect her with birds of prey solo film without Harley Quinn that is. DC would have one-up marvel before even the introduction of Shuri as Black panther.
I would like to see James gunn use this script as a side story that takes place in between the suicide squad

Though I think parts of this story did make it into the suicide squad comic as a terrorist squad made up of abandoned old suicide squad members attacking America / Amanda Waller does sound familiar. think it was after they put Harley in the book.

Y'all are too hard on suicide squad. It gave us some memeable moments and some of the most perfect casting choices we could've gotten. Yes there was some holes and bad cgi but for a DC movie, it was pretty fun
Certain things about this script seem really dumb like, Zo being held hostage at the end. But regardless of the lil nitpicks it's way way better than the 2016 version we got

it kinda sucks that they killed off some of the most interesting squad members off in the beginning, but other than that, i could actually see them taking this and some of the other unmade superhero movies and make comic adaptations of them

Am I the only one that wants this suicide squad movie made I like the first suicide squad movie even though it isn’t David Ayer’s true version of the movie and I really liked the James Gunn suicide squad movie as well but this suicide squad movie needs to get made half way through the video I honestly said out loud “how did this not get made” because this story is really cool because it’s not too crazy and it’s basically a heist film which are always enjoyable to be honest. Ayer's Suicide Squad barely builds up Snyder's JL. Only the Enchantress being controlled by a mother box. If a JL member should have got a solo movie, it would be Cyborg. A villian could have been controlled by a mother box and we would have seen Cyborg's origins and more info about it. Too bad Snyder wanted a Cyborg film after JL.
You know this would have been rewatchable and good.. the 1st movie was not horrible but not really good.. dead shot was miscasted. The enchantress story line was really off from the comics and ended up making the suicide squad actually the reason for the existence of the threat.
Harley was exactly right as far as the comics and really the joker was an updated version of the joker ..
Ends up the hero was an unknown special forces soldier that committed suicide on command killing the brother of enchantress ..
Anyway.. suicide was a great run in the comics. I feel Gunn made a mistake killing off Flag and to some extent captain boomerang.
Flag always brought something to the stories he was in.
Boomerang? Is kind of a shitty character with an odd skill set but in the comics he brought a lot to the stories and could be depended on as a friendly foil.. you know the fuck up that was fun to mistreat that you never trust..
The next suicide squad movie will miss Flag.. and possibly boomerang ..

While this movie’s script was shelved for something far inferior. With rumors that Dan Lin is one of the nominees to start anew with the DCEU, we might see a similar plot to this restructured, especially since this script of Suicide Squad is based on the first plot of John Ostrander’s Suicide Squad run.

The 2016 was going to be more serious, but according to Ayer the success of Deadpool influenced WB's decision to lighten it up and add more comedy.
This is why Hollywood should be more faithful to the comics. It's a safe bet.
i would've titled this movie (Suicide Squad: The 4th Of July)
I do question Vixen's role on the Squad as She is a hero in the comics and a member of the Justice League
for all these movies that don't make it, they need to come out with comics of the stories so you can at least read the story!! It is a comic book universe and i'd think that before a movie was created i would have a comic done for it so it can be seen physically before you spend 10's or 100's of million's of dollars on it!
