@@Flyboy1953 yeah Waid’s also acknowledged how Billy and the Captain were in World’s Finest when that would’ve been roughly 10 years before the present of the current timeline. He’s hinted at time travel since the Rock of Eternity exists outside of time and space but I hope we get a story that covers it. Looking forward to see more classic stuff restored.
The Shazam/Superman rivalry back in the day was crazy. He almost resembled Superman in someway. I think the later incarnations with the introduction of Tawky Tawny really got me interested in the Captain Marvel mythology. Then the children of Shazam shows the universe was expanding for Captain Marvel. To me the 23 minute short with Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black I always hear Arnold Vosloo's voice when I read Black Adam comics.
I'm 47. And I still calling Captain Mavel.

I have recently been clearing out my parents' attic and I found my old Shazam comics that I put there for safekeeping in around 1977 (including the issue at 32:02). I remember reading them over and over and am glad I can now read them again for the first time in 45 years.

Hercules: Strength
Atlas: Stamina
Zeus: *Power*
Achilles: Bravery
Mercury: Speed
It was originally going to be:
Solomon: Wisdom
Hercules: strength

Zeus: *Lightning*
Achilles: Bravery
Mercury:Speed
But they wanted him to have the ability to fly and be super durable so they replaced the lightning of Zeus with the power of Zeus which is mostly the lightning but also Durability and Flight.
Fun fact: Superman is a rip off of Gladiator by Philip Wylie. Google "superman inspiration gladiator by Philip Wylie" . Exact same powers as superman but gladiator came out 8 years before superman.
Hmmm...where did you get this info? Captain Marvel could not fly, only jump when he furst came out, just like Superman. Though his first actual "flight" came before Superman's, it was not one of his original powers.

@@K1ng1995 Jerry O'Connell played Captain Marvel (Shazam)? That's amazing, because I think as an adult, he looks a lot like Fred MacMurray, the actor upon whom Captain Marvel's physical appearance was originally based.

I've been in love with Captain Marvel since my childhood, reading the oversized Treasury Editions from the 70's and bits and pieces from the underrated "Adventures In The DC Universe" comic by Steve Vance. Would really like to see DC re-release the original comics from Fawcett in those Golden/Silver/Bronze Age Omnibus', but it probably won't ever happen
Some of them have been released in DC Archive Editions.
Another thing about Shazam, aside from inexperience, he has no physical weaknesses.
My all time favourite comic book character.
Still not completely comfortable calling him Shazam. Would have almost preferred if they called him Captain Thunder like in his first trial clash with superman and in Flashpoint.

Hehe you sound like me. I was a HUGE fan of Shazam's live action show as a kid. I watched Shazam twice back to back on its opening night here in Germany. LOVE when Freddy gets to fly and float. Fantastic when the whole family gets shazamed ❤️😊
My 4th favorite DC superhero! He's just so relatable and cool! Can't wait for Shazam Fury of the Gods! Been a fan of Shazam/Captain Marvel since Jeff Smith's Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil!

My top favorite superhero is Superman, but I must say that Captain Marvel is also one of my favorite DC heroes too. He's just so cool and fun.
Absolutely the greatest documentary about the greatest Superhero. Whether you call him Shazam or Captain Marvel, he fulfilled a kids idea of being more than just a kid. He was the first hero I read about as a boy and I read about him today. Amazing.

Shazam's origin story is still one of the best in fiction, because not only is his story (billy batson) interesting but the origin story of his villain (teth-adam) is just as good, and the dynamic works together so well between the 2!!
Not gonna lie, I waited until they were both in the theater at the same time. I watched SHAZAM!, then Captain Marvel and then SHAZAM! 3-D.
And to prove my love for ALL things Captain Marvel I will mention that I noticed there was a crew member on SHAZAM! (and I kid you not) named Rick Jones. He's deep in the credits but he's there. 2nd unit driver I think. What else would Rick be qualified for? Dude's basically a drifter. Wonder if he escaped back to the Marvel Universe?
I NOTICED THAT TOO! i think DC and Marvel keep missing a great opportunity in every cross-over by not having Billy Batson interview Rick Jones about his music career, and then having some crisis pop up, both of them excuse themselves, both of them transform into their respective Captain Marvels, who then have a team-up!

DC should of renamed Billy Batson's alter-ego Captain Marvel's name to "Captain Marvelous" instead of "Shazam". Shazam is the name of the wizard who passed on his powers to Billy Batson. Back when Billy Batson was with Fawcett Comics, Bill Parker and C.C. Beck, Billy's alter-ego was going to be called "Captain Thunder", but there was already a character with that name. So Captain Thunder (Billy Batson) was renamed "Captain Marvelous", but there was no room for the name "Captain Marvelous" anywhere on the covers of the comic books and inside of the comic books so Captain Marvelous was renamed "Captain Marvel". That's how the original Captain Marvel (Billy Batson) got his Captain Marvel name. Fun fact: the name "Captain Marvelous" was never copyrighted and trademarked, so I think it's time for DC to finally rename Billy Batson's alter-ego one last time. I don't agree with "Shazam" being Billy's superhero name because when Billy says Shazam's name, he transforms back and forth. If you ever watched an episode of Teen Titans Go!, Billy Batson/Shazam makes an appearance and when he was going to introduce himself to the Teen Titans, Raven of the Titans asked Billy/Shazam "What was your name again?" and Billy/Shazam said "Billy Batson." and Cyborg of the Titans said "No, the other name. Shizzle-whizzle-what, now?" and Billy/Shazam said "Oh. SHAZAM!". Saying "Shazam" as Billy's superhero name caused Billy to change back to normal Billy and Beast Boy of the Titans got confused and said "Cool! He (Billy Batson/Shazam) can turn back and forth by saying his name!". So, like I said, DC should have renamed Billy's alter-ego from "Captain Marvel" to "Captain Marvelous" because "Captain Marvelous" was the name that Billy Batson (AKA Captain Marvel/Shazam) never got to use back when he used to be with Parker, Beck and Fawcett.
Black Adam was the Sinestro to Cap's GL... or, the other way around... ;-)

Well, that's quite a coincidence. I've spent the past two days reading a lot of Shazam/Captain Marvel comics, and then DC published this video. So, maybe they will post a video about Aquaman if I read a lot of Aquaman comics next weekend.

DC let the trademark lapse in the early sixties when they didn't do anything with it so Marvel Comics jumped on it.

Hmmmm...they left out a lot between the settlement of the Fawcett-DC case and the DC revival. I understand that this is a DC production, but the story of the trademark is a lot more complicated than they made it sound. It involve Myron Fass and the "Captain Marvel" comic book he put out in 1966, the MArvel comics character created in 1967, and a lawsuit brought forth by Fass against Marvel that ultimately secured the trademark for Marvel.
They also did not mention any names regarding who at DC actually came up with the idea of bringing back the Big Red Cheese. Carmine Infantino, publisher of DC at the time, said it was his idea, but Mark Evanier insists that it was part of a plan Jack Kirby had to revive various older characters.
Incidentally, Infantino also claimed that he designed the Silver Age Flash's costume after the original Captain Marvel, which is why the so often get confused for each other.

They changed his name because Marvel has the copyright to it. I don't remember folks thinking his name was Shazam. Personally I hated him taking the name of the wizard. Before he was Captain Marvel they considered Captain Thunder. I believe that name was used in Flashpoint.
Loved Fury of the Gods! These hour-long superhero documentaries are amazing. I pray that one day, in the far future, #WonderWoman will be given "this" much attention, and not just a "pandering-to-females" type of documentary, something that's watchable for the general public, including standard males (like many of the guys in this video).
I'd like to believe there's still some glimmer of hope in the far future of humanity . . . maybe.

I just loved the movie of "SHAZAM". The story and every moment was very unique..
and some very heart touching moments came out.. which is great ..
The story also teaches us about humanity.. to make the harmony ..
The Monster Society of Evil kind of like the Injustice Society for the Shazam Universe. The sequel for sure we will get to see more of that and the other worldly universes of Shazam. It will be nice to see the Shazam and his children take on the Monster society of Evil.

Can someone explain to me how DC is able to use the name "Captain Marvel" on the interior of their books, but somehow can't use the name "Captain Marvel" on the cover of their books?
Wouldn't using the name "Captain Marvel" at all be trademark infringement?
That was a condition of the lawsuit between DC and Marvel back in the 70’s.
Because DC didn't do their due diligence in their settlement with Fawcett over Superman infringement. They got the "character", but neglected to include the name, allowing Marvel to come in and buy it and trademark it. That's the true story behind "The Big Red Cheese".
That is because the Marvel 💩comics took over Shazam's difficult times and claimed the name in relations to their's , and did it completely diceptively
@@rodneyseabrook8222 There was no lawsuit between Marvel and DC. Marvel sent a Cease and Desist letter about DC putting the trademarked name on the cover, and DC stopped doing that.
A trademark is only a trademark when it is used as the branded name of a product, such as the cover of a book, the box of a toy, or the title of a show. When used in dialog between characters or in the text of a story not as the name of a product, it is not being used as a trademark.
