- In 2004, Warner Bros, director David S. Goyer, and star Ryan Reynolds tried to bring The Flash to the big screen in spectacular fashion.
Goyer was set to write and direct the film, which would introduce the world to Wally West in a story that focused on him living up to the legacy of Barry Allen.

This is a very strong script and if it was done properly could have been one of the greatest superhero movies of all time, being remembered today like a model of the genre like the first 2 Spider Man movies and Nolan's Batman trilogy. Also Ryan Reynolds as Wally West was a PERFECT casting choice at the time, he would have nailed this role. The movie would also have done the "epic superspeed scene" with Wally saving everyone from the plane crash and becames a remarkable scene in movie history way before Fox could have the chance to do that with Quicksilver. But unfortunately WB didn't greenlight this Flash movie and they thought the crap version that we got this year was better for some stupid reason... WB really doesn't give a shit about the iconic DC characters they have in their hands, so much wasted potential.
WB's total mismanagement of their DC characters, when having solid proof that these characters belong on the big screen is insane. Hopefully the new DCU treats them with the respect they deserve!
This should of been Wally's era
Instead they replaced him as though he never existed. 50 years of character development gone in a flash.
Wally was my Flash. When he took over the mantle from Barry in Mike Barons run in Volume 2, it seemed as though DC finally had a character that readers could identify with. With Wally not only growing as a hero but as a person aswell, as he grew from a post adolescent boy into a man.
Wally's also my Flash, I have a ton of love for him, seeing him grow across his time as a hero was wonderful. When Barry came back, it just wasn't the same for me.
Interesting how Reynolds and Levy still found each other working together a decade later on a different superhero IP for the competition. Always interesting great work!
I also thought that was wild. Them teaming up to work on a movie about a quippy, fast talking, red wearing hero- some things are just meant to be, I suppose. (And thank you for the kind words!)

Every time you said "Hunter" I felt quite worried.
This Zoom didn't feel as terrifying as Teddy Sears' Zoom though.

The Flash 2023 is amazing and it’s a financial success. There is no such thing as a “hOt mEsS” and movies don’t bomb. Houses bomb. Just like you and your family’s will if you think of the flash the way you do.

Ryan Reynolds would be a horrible Barry Allen. Barry Allen is the smartest scientist in the room. He is highly competent, not a goof ball. DC heroes are highly competent, not like MARVEL heroes whom are more human than gods.

So WB literally waited 20 years to make a sub-par Flash movie just because they wanted it to spin-off from Justice League? That is seriously the most asinine business logic I have ever heard. Now I see why all their superhero films are bunk except for anything Batman.

What a phenomenal script, such a shame it never got made. I hope James Gunn can atleast check it out and maybe even use it or put some elements from it into a film. This film could also be interesting if it was Jay Garrick and Barry Allen as the main characters.

I have to admit, the story for the most part sounds very engaging. Could’ve made for a really great WW Flash movie
David Goyer's Flash project is the reason Smallville was forced to use Bart Allen instead of Barry Allen, which ended up being a waste due to Goyer's Flash project never being made.
The greatest enemy of proper DC adaptations across movies and TV is Warner Bros. I've never understood the mandate of 'We have this character in an upcoming movie, so they can't be on a show!' and it's ruined so many otherwise cool things.
@@HemmasStudios_ It's also the reason why Smallville couldn't use teenage Bruce Wayne, and why The WB wasn't allowed to make a Gotham-style TV show with teenage Bruce Wayne before he became Batman to run as a companion show to Smallville in a shared universe, which was the original idea long before the Fox Network Gotham series. WB was completely stupid, and only handicapped themselves by not allowing their own intellectual priorities to be seen by the public.
That would have been dope. I think they missed the mark tho on cast. Sean william scott would have been way better choice in that time period. Shit even now. He got hella acting skills
This script could easily be repurposed for James Gunn's DCU. And have Wally West be played by Matt Lintz ("The Walking Dead", "Ms. Marvel").

WB had an easy hit on their hands, yet they decided to scrap everything just because they thought they could do better. And surprise surprise, it ended up becoming a disaster of epic proportions lol.

A couple of requests if you don’t mind: The cancelled Metroid movie that John Woo was supposed to make in the early 2000s and the Johnny Bravo movie that was supposed to star The Rock. The latter in particular, I’ve always been fascinated about.

Yeah really is a shame that this hit the cutting room floor but the flash (2023) made it. This script showed how to do speedster conflict right. When you have someone so overpowered the conflict has to be more internal, and so Wally's hesitancy to do anything plays into that a lot. I also like that fight scenes are sparse and it puts more emphasis on his rescue capabilities.
I really dig the rescue aspect, too. So many superhero movies now don't do a great job at showing the heroes actually rescuing people, so reading this script was very refreshing.
this was better than the entire flash movie. and i didn’t even watch the video just listened to it while driving. i knew hunter xoloman was zoom and it was still a surprise. ten times better than the flash movie. sad.
The movie sets up the Hunter twist so well!
I’d rather see this as an animated film where they wouldn’t be held back by anything and could go all out, but as a DCUA film it would be amazing! Also, back then the effects would have been awful, so I’m glad they didn’t try to make this.

The flash cancelled moviie script is peak and wild!
This (the original origin story) is what D.C. fans have been waiting for. I know I wanted to see the Turtle and Flash in the first Flash Film though I wouldn't want the Turtle to die after one film!!!
Turtle is such a cool pick for a Flash movie villain that I don't think I personally would have considered, but after reading this script, I'm a big believer in the idea!

I never understood one of brothers obsession with making one giant ensemble film first and then doing the spit off individual movie second. If there is one thing that everyone should learn from the phase 1 through 3 Marvel films is that you need to sit up the characters individually first before you put them in an ensemble. Because the problem with making adjustice League movie, the first or third film as it ended up being is that we don't know most of these characters. You didn't film's going to have to be super long in order to get everything and screen time or is going to be characters that are so cut out in the move that the whole thing will ultimately in inevitably be and feel rushed. Exactly what happened with the Justice League and the only reason why Zack Snyder's works is because it's a four-part mini series that literally gives it. It's easily an hour run time in order to do a proper ensemble film with no previous character introductions. They need to make an individual flash rule individual Batman movie, individual Superman movie and makes sequels to them before they put them all together. So that way people are already used to this version of Superman and Batman and The flash and the Wonder woman. So then they can focus on the actual plot character development and action instead of trying to keep re-establishing stuff that we should already know. But we don't know because none of these movies communicated it to us. So incredibly dumb by a logistics standpoint and you really shows the type of chimps with harmonicas that is running Warner Brothers.

The Flash is the comic series that got me into collecting. I bought my first Flash comic after falling in love with the show in 91. I collected The Flash for the next 6 years and came back to it after college. My Flash is Wally West. I am pretty sure I have his full run. This would have been great.
Crazy to think the the Flashpoint movie we are getting in 2023 is fair game for its own episode with how many versions and continuities went through. Fingers crossed those scripts leak.
I'd love to see the script for that original Flash movie they announced in 2014, the first script when they decided it was going to be flashpoint, and everything in between. The number of unmade movies/alternate versions of movies and scripts of the DCEU is bonkers.

The most insane part is that if WB didn't panic and try to make sweeping changes after the release of literally every DCEU movie, the Snyderverse would have ended in, like, 2019 and they could have rebooted after that instead of having to wait until 2025 to reboot.
(But more importantly, we would have gotten to see Justice League 2 and 3, which would have been incredible ! :P)

Flashpoint would have been an awesome third or fourth movie, in the style of Civil War where it's very clearly a Flash movie, but heavily features the rest of the Justice League!
They Need to make Wally the DCU Flash since Gunn Is taking inspirations from the Justice League cartoon.
Nothing would make me happier (outside of WB actually making movies with Superman in them) than having Wally as Flash!

He's not taking inspiration from the Justice League Cartoon. If he were, both Hal and John wouldn't be the main Green Lanterns. He's also having Damian Wayne as the Main Robin, whereas in the DCAU it was Tim Drake.

This film sounds like it would have been great, but I think it would have worked best as a third or fourth film in a franchise, since I think we'd need time to get to know Barry before Wally takes over, especially since I'd want to see Wally as Kid Flash first.
This movie wouldn't have existed if you opted for him to be Kid Flash in a previous movie. So much of it is clearly centered around him not being used to his powers and not wanting to be the heroic Flash Barry was.

So CW just more or less stole Goyer’s script, reworked it slightly, and turned it into season 1 of Flash. I never knew this script existed but I too thought Ryan Reynolds would have been a great choice for Wally West/The Flash; far better than Hal Jordan/Green Lantern.
If you could believe it, there's actually a 2011 script that Greg Berlanti of all people helped with the story for, that very much got repurposed into the Flash CW show.

I agree, I thought the Ezra version was very inconsistent. Some awesome ideas and some very bad execution. I feel that this script is very consistent, which is nice for an introductory movie!
You must read the script Ezra miller and Grant morrison made which was also better than what we got. Ezra's version of the script was dark and more mature which included Iris dying and barry losing one of his legs.
The Rogues were the villains and the members were Captain cold, Golden glider and Mirror master. Jay Garrick was also there as a mentor for barry.

i had read 3 unproduced The Flash movie script. the first's penned by Goyer like in this video. second's penned by Berlanti and Gugenheim, it's intended to be a movie but they developed it as TV Series in CW (starred by Grant Gustin) the third's penned by Chris Brancato, in this script The Flash is Wally West, he fought against The Immortal tyrant known as Vandal Savage and his mercenary squad known as The Rogue (Pipe Piper, Heatwave, Rainbow Raider, Weather Wizard)
Of those three scripts, I think that this one is head over heels the strongest. Which one do you like best?

That was pretty good. I don't know if Ryan could pull it off, but I could see the potential.
I wish this film became a reality because I would prefer this than what we got because it really wasn’t a Flash movie it’s a flashpoint because it has other heroes instead of Flash doing things on his own and the villain is General Zod again instead of any of the Flash rouges gallery except for this evil version of him who is not Eobard or Zolomon.
I would also make this perfectly to connected to the Nolanverse
I really like Turtle and Hunter Zolomon which I mean the comics version of Zolomon not the tv series version where he wears black and is not sympathetic as he is in the comics which I don’t why isn’t he yellow here?
Can you do David Hayter’s Hulk movie or Michael France’s Hulk movie because they seem very much the same plot and the same villains that they use and the Universal cancelled Captain America movie in the 80’s and have them both at the same time before Captain America 4 comes out because the Leader from the MCU Incredible Hulk movie is returning.
Superman 3 original script, Superman Lives and Superman Returns sequel what do they have in common, the villain that has never been on the silver screen “Brainiac”
I thought it was such a weird move to never give Zoom the Yellow suit. The script goes out of its way to stress that the first costume is near identical to Wally's and the final costume is black, for some reason. I think even a muted yellow could have looked really slick!
Michael France's Hulk movie is very interesting, I really dig that script, but I didn't know that Hayter did a pass at Hulk, I'll have to take a look at that!
As for Superman- he's my favorite hero of all time, and I adore Brainiac as a villain (I think he was also set to be the villain of MoS 2 in one of it's MANY incarnations). I'd love to do any of those scripts :)

Also I forgot wouldn’t it be perfect if Goyer’s Flash movie was in the Dark knight trilogy where it could be Batman vs Flash movie and also the early rumours that would be later become the Dark knight rises like where one being that the movie would be based on Batman: Prey where Hugo Strange is the main villain, others being Riddler and Penguin where they would be played by Johnny Depp and Philip Seymour Hoffman and the other being the Mad Hatter and the return of the Joker before Heath Ledger died which could have Harley Quinn.

Well that's the original script for Superman 3, where Brainiac was gonna be Supergirl's Father. That's also lazy writing if you ask me. Hey I know you might not do this request but this is one cancelled movie that I don’t see many people talk about and that is the cancelled live action Scooby Doo movie from 1996 no one has talked about it much and I feel needs more attention drawn to it, there was a video talking about it by Bedhead Bernie but has since been removed. The entire script is available online in a Google Drive link I remember reading it while I was at school and from what I remember is was pretty good. If you want the link to the script I can send the link if you want to read it.

Goyer's version would've been much better than what we ended up with, because it was actually ABOUT THE FLASH! (And it wouldn't've starred a criminal.) Why did these idiots want to do a team up movie before the individual characters had been established?
While I agree with the first half of what you said, I do think that it's possible to start a universe with a team up movie *if* it's done right! I think Justice League Mortal had a shot at being that. (I personally do think it's much easier to start with individual character movies, though)

Biggest issue with the script is that it makes Wally to much of a selfish asshole. Wally's story is about trying to living up to and forging your own legacy. It be like if Spider-Verse made Miles an unlikable tool. Also not using Linda Park who's one of the few non white love interest in comics just feels wrong.
Linda actually does cameo! The script specifically calls her out when Wally is mobbed by reporters- she's one of them.
On one hand I understand Goyer going 'Wally dated Tina first, so we'll do Tina in the first movie' but on the other hand, Linda is SO much more prominent/important (especially when the script was written) that I thought it was strange that she wasn't the love interest. One of the scripts during either the Sean Levy or David Dobbin version actually did have her as the love interest, though!
The return of Barry alien would work as a movie wally is the flash we set up rouges as main badguy, then Barry returns secretly processor zoom. Zoom being a flash fan knows everything about flash so would give lore.
I would rather gotten this film instead.

This would be my movie Barry dies wally kids flash retirees. Wally just wants to have fun and party with his powers, and the rouges and planing a big hist without the flash they think nobody will stop them. Wally interfers rouges teleport away. Cold is happy that now being a criminal is hard again and the city is happy it has a protector. You could do a megamind and have the villians actually miss the hero.
It would’ve been a lot better than the Flash Movie we got.

Fun fact: The script is only 117 pages long, so the movie would actually probably wind up being right around 2 hours!
So all of these gems of a movie were canned coz of the Writers Strike...got ya. We need to start a law suit against writers robbing us from amazing movies never being made!
Nononono, no writer has ever *not* wanted their movie to be made. They're the ones bringing us the movie. Strikes typically start because studios are grossly underpaying writers- (like, much less than a livable wage), among other issues. The studio is the issue in these situations
