The Original Plans for the Uncharted Movie: Drake's Fortune - Canned Goods

- In 2008, Uncharted almost became a movie. The plot was set to follow the events of Drake's Fortune, following Nathan Drake, Elena Fisher, and Victor "Sully" Sullivan in their quest to find El Dorado.
This is the first in many attempts of Uncharted coming to the big screen. Future attempts are a tangled web involving the likes of David O. Russell, Nathan Fillion, and Joe Carnahan. This first draft is the only version of the script to directly adapt one of the games.
So today, we'll walk through the development, plot and evolution of the original plans for the Uncharted movie.

It amazes me how they can’t find a way to make a game that’s basically an interactive summer blockbuster into an actual summer blockbuster.
They could’ve just slap a lost city with a supernatural twist and put Nathan and the gang in there

Is it me or does Sony Pictures have a tendency to shoot themselves in the foot?
They either have absolutely tremendous ideas or totally shoot themselves in the foot.
This movie sounds miles better than what we got.

Really appreciate the coverages for these unrealized movies. Anyway, I hope I don't come across as rude, as I am new here, but I have some requests:
• Tarantino's Medieval film, which would've star Helen Mirren as a foul-mouthed monarch.
• Tim Burton's adaptation of 'The Hawkline Monster', which would've star Jack Nicholson and Clint Eastwood.
• Adaptation of 'The Cardinal of the Kremlin', which would've had Harrison Ford, James Earl Jones, and Sean Connery returning as Jack Ryan, Jim Greer, and Ramius. Also would've star William Shatner.
• Edgar Wright's 'Ant-Man.

With the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie on it's way, I recently found out about a cancelled Super Mario Bros. Movie from 1991. It was going to be better than the Super Mario Bros. movie we got in 1993 and would be 87% faithful to the source material. Can you please do a video about it.
That version of the Mario movie has long piqued my interest. The idea of Mario Luigi and Toad on a quest like that is really appealing imo. I can definitely look into it :)
I’m kinda with you on this script. It does sound closer to the games, but I would have hated Sully in this and I always got nervous Sully was going to die in the next installment and I’m so glad he didn’t cause Sully is one of my favorite characters from the game. Nate sounds like a jerk in this one, but not as much as Sully.
As much as I don’t like what they did with Sully and certain things I think I would have rather had this movie. If this was the script Wahlberg was attached to as Drake, Wahlberg would have been the perfect Drake for this script.
Mark Wahlberg came into the picture soon after this script died- but I gotta agree regardless. As lukewarm as I am on Nate here, the way he’s written definitely plays to Marky Mark’s strengths as an actor.
This doens't sound that bad tbh, this movie could've been huge and very enjoyable
speaking of Video Game Adaptation, i had read unproduced Castlevania screenplay written by Paul W.S Anderson. and also right now I'm reading unproduced Devil May Cry live action screenplay

@@HemmasStudios_ I thought it was fine not great, but perfectly serviceable. I thought it similar to 2018’s Tomb Raider where for that film it’s a lot grounded with tone compared to the Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies and Alicia Vikander is more of a perfect choice to play Lara Croft than Angelina Jolie, but not even those good quirks could save a pretty run of the mill plot even the Sonic movie fell into that trap.
As a fan of the games I thoroughly enjoyed it. The casting was odd and the prequel aspect makes no sense in the game’s timeline considering that we already saw how Nate and Sully met in the games.
I never felt I wasn’t watching a Uncharted movie which was good. This definitely felt like an Uncharted movie. My only complaints were that I wished it had been funnier and that Antonio Banderas wasn’t wasted. I got excited when I heard he was in this cause I knew he’d make a great villain for Uncharted, but they didn’t do anything remotely interesting with him.
All in all I really enjoyed it. Would I have liked a movie with better casting and a movie that didn’t cherry pick things from the games? Sure. Unfortunately also I really can’t see Holland growing into the Nathan from the games. Heck even in some parts of this I was waiting for him to shoot a web or something. I think Holland is a good actor, but I won’t be able to see him as anything else than Peter Parker.

idk, the story of this seems a lot stronger then what we got, like yeah Nathan and sully are kinda jerks, but they are also kinda jerks in the game, plus i feel like the set pieces were a lot better. I also feel like its different enough from the source material, but incorporates enough from it so you could build it into a franchise and and basically pull from the other games.
I have a few suggestions for future videos you could make

David Hayters cancelled Black Widow movie script,
Channing Tatums Gambit movie (which I hope happens someday since Channing Tatums love for the character is so genuine I hope marvel studios let's them make the movie independently from the mcu marvel movies maybe set it in the X-Men universe Ryan Reynolds Deadpool movies are in
I could definitely look into all of those, and speaking of Gambit, I wouldn’t be opposed to him playing Gambit in the main MCU when they bring the X-Men in. The dude’s clear love for the character is totally infectious

That is 100% true. If I remember right the idea was kicked around during the period between X-3 and First Class. That’s a movie I’d LOVE to cover if I ever got to read the script

I 100% agree. I was shocked how similar the post credit scene from the released movie was to the scene with Navarro at the bar in the beginning of this! I think that some version of this script will be the basis of Uncharted 2.

I definitely do have some more on the list. I like to keep them a surprise though. I will say though, one of the next ones is one of my most requested videos ever. (It’s not Batman Vs Superman, but I still haven’t forgotten about it, Brian :P)
I think this script could still be made, with a couple of changes of course, but this could be the sequel for the first movie. Although it would never be as great as the first game, but it could be at least a good popcorn flick.
My big theory is that this script, like you said with some tweaks, is 100% the basis for Uncharted Movie 2. Especially since the post credit scene has the whole scene with the map, which isn’t in the games. Once that happened I was convinced this is basically the sequel’s script.
