In this video, we’re going to talk about cortisol resistance and insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is a prediabetic state. Any time there is a resistance situation, you have a hormone that’s not going into the cells properly. The receptor that is supposed to receive the hormone is resistive, and it’s blocking the hormone from going in. With this situation, you can have a lot of the hormone in the body, but you’re not getting the effect of the hormone. You can actually have symptoms of too much of the hormone and a deficiency of the hormone at the same time.
Cortisol is a stress hormone. It counters and deals with stress. When you have stress over a long period of time, the receptor that’s supposed to receive that hormone starts to block it.
    Symptoms of high cortisol:
    • Belly fat
    • High blood pressure
    • Poor sleep
    • Loss of protein
    • High cholesterol
    • Low vitamin D levels
    • Acid reflux
    • Ulcers
    Symptoms of low cortisol:
    • Inflammation
    • Immune issues
    • Allergies
    • Asthma
    • Memory problems
    • Stress
With insulin resistance, the cells aren’t getting insulin. Insulin drives nutrition and fuel into the cells. So basically, the cells are starving.
    Symptoms of high insulin:
    • Increased thirst
    • Increased urination
    • Dry mouth
    • Belly fat
    • High blood pressure
    • Inflammation
    • Tiredness
    • Memory problems
    Symptoms of low insulin:
    • Irritability
    • Impatience
    • Lightheadedness
    • Sweet cravings
    • Hunger
    • Headaches
    • Anger
    • Weakness

Proper Sleep, Proper Movement/Exercise/Sports and staying away as much as possible from sugar helped me a lot.

The symptoms definitely cross over but make so much sense to me. Symptoms presented to my GPs before a chronic fatigue diagnosis which I've always believed due to years of stress in trying to be the best mum I could. Instead of relaxing I got a job. Twenty years later and IBS has taken over. I'm borderline diabetic, hbp and the slightest form of stress and I get worse. I have a long way to go but I've lost 6kgs in the last 2 months. It's a dramatic change to the up and down losses and gains that end up being a gain. I'm also walking more which some days is a battle with IBS. So thank you for your educational videos. Without them I'd be an even bigger lump on a log.

*OMGOSH!!! This makes absolute TOTAL sense to what was happening with my health!!! I became cortisol resistant and EVERY single thing that he listed happened to me!!! Then after becoming resistant, EVERY single thing on the second list happened to me!!! I am now OFF of ALL medications with the exception of one, and I am almost off of that one too!! Removing myself from ALL toxic relationships helped to give me the "self-love" that I needed to address other issues in my life, including the food that I was eating!! I was poisoning myself with food that was GMO, processed, chemically altered, etc... I now have a CLEAN diet that helps to heal my body vs. fight against and harm my body!!*

This is all very interesting to me. My endocrinologist and OBGYN both suspected that I have Non-Classic Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia and PCOS (I may have spelled some of it wrong). Sometimes I feel so hopeless...I'm tired a lot and sometimes my family really doesn't get it when I say I need to lay down I really need to lay down...I have also tried losing weight and it's like the weight doesn't budge smh...oh the frustration. I wish I had a normal functioning system like everyone else.

@@GameChanger597 I’m a very learned Christian, and Jesus never promised healing . Sometimes He does and sometimes He does not. Yes we should copiously pray for healing, however to this person Jesus will heal this is very misleading. Jesus does indeed save someone’s eternal souls. Intermittent fasting to the point of autophagy is quite effective.

I have left a comment on the vitamin A video... But again... Yes, yes, yes! You make so much sense, and you look at the whole picture and not just one result. I'm listening nodding my head yes! But unfortunately have no idea what to do with the information. I've searched high and low for a GP who actually cares and who is willing to listen and take the whole picture into consideration. And look at the abnormal results a second time before dismissing them because the next week it comes out 'normal' or 'acceptable' because to us patients it isn't acceptable, it isn't a joke, it's our lives and our quality of life! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and time with us. I'm still confused as to what to do with the information, but at least I feel better knowing that someone out there cares, and knows that sometimes people know how they feel and aren't crazy. I wish there were more of you!!! Please let me know if there's anything I can do to help myself while waiting for Dr's and Specilist.

    Dear Dr. Berg,
Can you please make a video on MODY type of Diabetes. I am desperately trying to understand it but all I can find about it is medical content (targeted to doctor) therefor, too difficult to understand.
I know it is not the most popular type of diabetes but when you have it, it really affects your quality of life. I try to eat the best I can - low fat, whole food, plant based diet - but my blood glucose and hunger often goes out of control and I don't understand why. How to avoid the following situation: Full and content then suddenly Boom! starved, weak, dizzy, confused, impatient, etc.
Looking forward earing from you on the topic.
    Keep the good content coming!

With both my pregnancies i had GD and doctors didn't really explain the cause of the condition. I was told to just manage through diet eating 6 small meals a day and then followed by medication.
In my circle of work/friends more and more women are diagnosed with it, most of us really dont know why it happens or how it can be prevented. Thankyou

Can too much of a cortisteroids injection for SI joint pain be the cause of cortisol resistance or Cushing's symptoms? That's when I got all my issues. I get cramping in my adrenal kidney regions so much I get a hunch back from the tight muscles. It's affected everything.

Dr Berg, I'm confused by Cortisol. I've been told that stress produces Cortisol which can prevent fat burning. Exercise is also a stress on the body and releases Cortisol. In other words, Exercise will prevent your body from burning fat???
