      Yea! The thing is that every generation has their own trials and tribulations. Some people (not all) like to hold their struggles and experiences and use them by themselves as a measure of maturity. It's a very selfish thing to do and is not mature of them. Just because they emerged triumphant on the other side, doesn't necessarily mean they were steadfast in making the right choices. They may have done hurtful things to themselves and others to push their way up and over. If you understand that and you can be happy by being proud of yourself and staying humble simultaneously, you're more mature than them. ❤

      Anger isn't inherently bad, it's just expressing it in healthy and safe way and trying to minimize contact with persons who don't respect your boundaries. It doesn't matter what others think, especially strangers. The last time i got angry in public setting was about 2.5 years ago so that doesn't happen often (came home to discover that my partner had moved out while i was at work, after telling me she loved me that morning - i regrettably stopped by her job). I'll admit i did react immaturely to that which triggered past trauma for me. No one is perfect but when i fall short i try to take accountability and make amends to those persons i may have harmed. Do you mind sharing what made you angry in public?

    • @Shaman1
      @Shaman1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@SoulDelSol i dont really mean in public, i mean your being angry can be observed by other people who might not even be involved and jump to the conclusion that youre immature altho youre wisely letting it flow.
      the last time i was angry in a public setting was when i saw the issues of a work place and calmly pointed them out in a big team meeting. neither the team nor supervisors acknowledged the cause of the problems i mentioned. the company ended up losing billions over this. i got angry a little bit and then decided i had to leave that place and be self employed so noone can stand between my clear sight and the action that needs to be taken. i was hurt that nobody believed me but now im happy and i see it as one of the greatest learnings of my life not to waste energy on making people understand things they dont want to believe. everybody looked down on me as crazy but they all came to the same conclusion as me... just a few years and many sicknesses later. its kinda sad im the only one who learned sth from it...

      yes it's sooo upsetting that when a person gets mad at someone, other people just assume that's their "true colors". anger is part of everyone, but not all people are angry all the time and hot-tempered, it just so happens that a person just snapped and cant hold their anger any longer. and you can tell a person is mature becuz even when they're angry they use words and not violence, and their words have good points and their choice of words aren't as degrading as "you dumbass mother effer". they actually have a good reason to be angry. ppl just can't see the difference between being mean and being angry.

    For what it's worth, I hate that word. I was deceived into believing being mature was a goal I had to achieve, and it ended up becoming an insidious mindset.
    This video has showed me I am not fully matured, but I've changed. More importantly, changed without trying to be what I am not.

    • @danielapardo9776
      @danielapardo9776 2 ปีที่แล้ว +71

      Same to everything. And having taken this "be mature" thing through my life has kinda ruined things (?), but maybe is because I skipped the part where I must be assertive; and the video kinda skips it too. Being mature or emotionally mature is to accept all emotions and to feel the pain, sadness, anger or joy that any situation brings. And that is where things like patience, empathy, no need for attention, humility and etc roots. I kinda hate this word too now, something that had so much meaning has turned into a label and a weapon for somebody else to control you by telling you: oh, truth is you are no very mature.

      @Jay T I was like your cousin when I was 13 lol, but with music, and met plenty during my teen years. Is part of forming an identity I think. He will snap out of it, hopefully. In the meantime, teasing him every once in a while won't hurt.
      What you said about being critized by false staples of maturity can be very true, like you said: drinking, adult tv, maybe partying, being like cold and serious and "deep" (those people can be very annoying) etc are seing as adult stuff. What I meant in that sense is that, in my opinion, another false staple of maturity is repressing your emotions and avoiding conflict. That causes that false image of a pacient kind "mature" person, but is not, is just someone who is letting everyone damage them. And all thanks to wanting to appear more adult than other people. "Mature" can be a weapon in many ways, damn. But maturity is more than that for me now that I am older, and I def do not consider mayself mature anyomre lol. It takes a lot of responsability to be an actual adult, and lot and lots of empathy and compassion, but it has to come from within. I think a way of doing that is knowing yourself and meeting more people, constant learning about living will get us there. And of course, the circumstances help to shape us. Don't worry about the rant, I love writing them and reading them too. Greetings (?).

      I'm told that I'm mature for my age. The position and role I had and have made others see me this way. It's hard to try to "live" up to these expectations. I don't know if I'm mature. Maybe I am, or maybe I'm not. I don't know. I have a problem thinking though about how I should act and what I should do and say to give the impression to others that I am mature. It feels like I'm not mature because of the way I think is childish. I seek the recognition of others, so my peers and those around me can be confident that I am who they say I am. I can relate to some of these in the video, but then I think maybe I'm not wise/mature. At my age, there's no way someone can be wise. There's not enough experience. But then again, it goes into the meaning of wise and what it means to an individual, so who's to say who's wise or not?

    Calling myself mature would never be a sign of maturity. I feel we often learn from our past and present and we all have a lot to learn. To listen to others, to feel them, and to understand things, ourselves, and the world around us. To act with our minds and our true personalities rather than to wear a mask and project ourselves to be something we are not. Often it's never an easy life as such life, but then again nothing comes off as easy. To let our feelings dictate our life is to push our lives to ruination. I am still immature and I still let my feelings get the best of me at times, but I am certainly learning and creating a better me for the future.

    I can describe myself as patient, I do actively listen more and talk less, I can describe myself as open-minded, and the optimal self-development I am currently aiming at incorporates the remaining four guides/teachings.
    I still struggle often, no mistake. No matter what progress you make or how much of it you manifest, regression is ALWAYS possible. It never becomes impossible, no matter how confident you are in your growth. 💙

Such as this video.

I look but don’t act my age. All of my friends are much older than me and I have a hard time making friends with my classmates who are the same age as me. Not sure if this is mature or not, but I always attempt to find a way to do something productive with my negative emotions. And if I can't do something productive with them, I detach myself from them and let them go. It's helped me to stop holding grudges against anyone, and also helps me quell emotions like greed or envy. But things like anger and frustration can be channeled productively into finding solutions, or if I can't do that, at the very least a really good gym session.

      Yep. Be empathetic with yourself. Also, the matter of maturity is pretty subjective. With some of these things I could disagree with. Just because a person listens well doesn't mean they're mature. Also, I think people need to work on self awareness first. Realize what causes you to experinece certain emotions, why you get angry at some things others may think are nothing to be angry about, why you befriend and attract certain people, and why you're attracted to them. Things like these are much more important than maturity to me. I don't believe someone can always be mature, or in a healthy mental state all the time, but if you have self awareness, when you're at the lowest of the low, you'll be able to tell those around you your needs which will help you get back to a better state. Sometimes you may go back to a bad habit of the past, but you know that you can still go back to being healthy again, and that shall be your inspiration to move on. Being mature and healthy goes hand in hand with being immature and toxic, you'll constantly experinece all of them depending what you're going through, so i think it's important to learn what causes you to shift from one side to another. Never too late to learn, good luck. I believe you can make it :)

    A lot of times, I feel like I am mature, but a part of my mind thinks that I shouldn't think that way or that I'm feeding into my ego and being boastful...
    I do feel like maturity shines in the way we act towards our circumstances and how we get to that action, but I dislike it when people around me (that I know) say that they're "mature" when they don't act like it. We may have our moments where we act out, but I don't want people to see _that moment_ as our natural behavior.
    What I mean is that everyone views emotional maturity differently. 🤷🏾

  • @vishnuvijai6718
    @vishnuvijai6718 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I believe every one must take time (atleast 10-15 minutes) of a day to introspect on
    1) How their day was- what is their emotion(happy , sad, angry , tired , guilty -- is it because of themselves or because of others) and why you are feeling like that and how can you improve
    2) what is your wish/desire/ambition
    3) what progress they made towards their goal in real/concrete world
    4) Did you do or say anything that might have hurt yourself or others
    5) Did you respect those who deserve respect or were you blinded by anger/jealousy/hatred/insecurities
    6) plan on what all events you want to do in your life(at the same time don't over plan or read out your plans to others for sake of validation)
    7) what mistakes you made and how can you correct them
    8) introspect on how to make a growth mindset
    9) We all must know that every relationship(romantic, platonic, family...) require management and sacrifice from our part- do introspect on are we making the ends meet
    10) And most important - understand yourself , who you are as a person
    Do SWOT analysis
    Figure out your MBTI personality and understand the weakness
    Understand your likes and dislikes
    TRY to build a strong character or identity and have strong ideals and values
    Because remember "logic when focused for a short time does not differentiate between good and bad "
    It is our ideals and values that provides us reason to be good and kind and efficient in life

Maintaining a calm composure and assessing my feelings and my values is becoming something I remember to do just a little more with each misstep. Here’s the thing with “promises”, I like to not say “promise” simply because sometimes promises were meant to be broken and I’m not saying it for negative situations , but more like positive decisions. I often use the phrase ‘I’ll try’ just so I won’t get that person’s hope up and including myself for holding on to that promise. I think the word “Promise” is simply overused to the point where to the point nowadays just is meaningless. All I’m saying is for myself and others just say the phrase “I’ll try” so no hopes don’t get broken between each of you.

      I disagree with this because as it was said "Their choices are based on their character, not feelings". The promises that you said were meant to be broken are the ones people do based on feelings, biggest example: love promises. If someone is mature enough they won't do those bc they know feelings come and go.
      Ofc nobody knows what the future holds so making promises is always a risk, but if they are true to your character they are less likely to be broken. That's what I believe.

    I've been told I'm wise by family, friends and even people that have passed in my life for only 16 hours and I truly believe them. Particularly on the self-awareness point, it's very hard to deal with difficult matters when you're emotionally self-aware of what you're reactions and emotions can bring to others, plus being conscious that every action has its consequence. No, in fact it's more easy to deal with the issue for a self-aware person but it becomes more difficult to do it with a non self-aware person because they'll, most of the time, decide of what's best for them and them only, not thinking of the consequences their decisions might bring on to others.
    I suggest Psych2Go to do a video on the subject by the way ! I think there is a lot to say about non self-aware people (emotionally as well as in general) and how we can better live with them (if that topic hasn't been adressed yet of course).

I feel like i have a more artistic free flowing side of me that i just turn on sometimes randomly. Sometimes i don’t do what creative thing i was thinking of saying/doing though due to fear of being jugded. Don’t fall into this trap that easily can become habit. For me this has to do with expectations, especially if you ”fill” a certain role in a social setting/group. There’s a time for being playful, creative or the goof of the room, no matter age or life situation etc.

    I've been pretty wise my whole life I'd say. Even in elementary school I overheard kids on the bus say things like
    kid A: "Who do you think is the most mature person in school"
    kid B: "Probably Drew"
    I grew up with Amygdaloid based anxiety and a brain tumor. Detaching myself from emotions has always come extremely easy to me. Actually, most of my struggles are with what I'd call physiological alexithymia (as opposed to the more common form of alexithymia which I'd call psychosematic alexithymia. There are a lot of concepts I used right there, so look them up. I'm not sure if I have the time to explain it in depth). For that reason, my struggle has been much more about getting back in touch with my emotions. BTW, the whole physiological alexithymia thing is because I literally had a surgical procedure to remove my epilepsy stunted Amygdala. As I say, I've been everywhere on the normal mental health range of issues from extreme anxiety to an Amygdalectomy patient. From brain cancer patient, to brain cancer (remission) patient (I still have it it's just a very benign tumor). From my days being overly anxious in adolescence, I am an extremely philosophical person, and could run circles around most people. I'd say that even with how stunted my amygdaloid based development is I'm in the upper tenth percentile of wisdom (partially because I'm only now going through that Amygdaloid development in my twenties instead of in my adolescence).

    Yeah, feeling like I was “so mature” at a young age (around 14) turned out badly for me. I presented myself as mature and truly believed I was mature, but on the inside I really wasn’t. I didn’t listen to my elders and didn’t evaluate my decisions. Ended up hurting people and myself, and now I have to work through this in therapy to try to be a better person. I’ve been in therapy for about 9 months now and I am just getting started, just BARELY realizing how immature I am. Even when I started therapy, I didn’t start it for this reason, it was for an immature reason. Now I am 23 and I have to work on maturing while dwelling on past bad decisions I have made. If you’re a teenager reading this, please talk to a mature adult before making decisions and listen to them. Try to REALLY look in the mirror and don’t make adult decisions when you are not an adult.

And I tend to get emotional hurt and damaged with people's words, thoughts or opinions when portrayed to me. Thus I get defensive and quick to anger as a result.

    It has been a while since I've watched one of these videos. Made me a little calm from stressful days.

    Also, a criterion of maturity is the ability and willingness to stand up for one's rights, however disconcerting that action may be, when they are violated. It's possible to have all of the characteristics listed in the video, but be not fully developed emotionally thereby being vulnerable to abusers.

    I think im mature then, I do things even if it bores me, since I promised to do it.
    Even when I am better than others I don't go brag about it, I give respect to every person.
    Additionally I am open minded and don't let opinions get the better of me, meaning, I don't discriminate others. I often listen to others, especially a good friend of mine who is a chatter box, and I know I can learn so much more, even when I don't have knowledge yet, I will obtain it one at a time, I have no limits!
