Installation video is out! th-cam.com/video/kc45z8a8hHw/w-d-xo.html. Got one more in the works showing all the features, should be out later this week.
I have a 2015 ForesterXT that came with the Harmon Kardon amp and speakers. about 3 years ago I think, I had the head unit replaced with a Pioneer 4400NEX head unit. the sound improvement was unbelievable with the new Pioneer head unit without touching the Harmon Kardon amp and speakers. The new head unit was driving the HK speakers and amp to its fullest capacity. the way the OEM head unit could not. no need to do anything else. thanks for listening !
This is just a discussion for those who own the STI or WRX and are not very car audio savvy. These are the reasons to upgrade and the choices you have. I just installed the iDoing android head unit and those videos will be out soon as well. Thanks for dropping by!

I did OEM audio+ upgrade for my WRX three years ago, and it IMMENSELY improved the audio, and the primary reason I went with it was because it comes with a fiberglass sub enclosure for the trunk so the sub sit in one of the cavities behind the wheel (so there's nothing bolted to the back of a seat and you don't greatly compromising carrying capacity), the kit also comes with a DPS and sub amp so it's basically plug and play.
@@akqjtn Eh, for a complete noob, it's not that bad, as the installation is actually pretty easy (remove seat, remove enough of the passenger's side to easily hide wire, remove the bottom part of the dash to run wire, remove one of the trunk interior walls, install). If you're doing it along with a bunch of sound deadening treatment, makes it a lot easier because you've already got the car apart so running a bit of wiring in that state is a breeze. And on a related note, only thing I'd really change from your prior guide is to remove the backseats... those are easy enough to get out and make working with the body panels in that area infinitely easier that (after having swapped the WRX ones for the STI ones) it's like "Why didn't you that then?" Only part that's sketch is running the lines out to the battery through the A pillar because you've got to go through the plastic tunnel that the door wiring uses, and the (on mine) exit through the drainage spout for the sunroof. Dunno if there's a better way for that or not.
How is the sub with the OEM audio plus? It’s only an 8 so I was wondering low loud and low it gets? I’m not going for crazy bass just skeptical if it’s worth it?
I replaced everything in my 15 wrx with navigation and harmon kardon. Headunit looked outdated with no apple car play or nothing. Changed it to a high end double din, replaced speakers with morels and a jl amp. With a 12in and omg it's so good even tho harmon kardon system ain't bad at all.
Came for the wiring video (using trailer harness instead of audio cables) and subbed after this. I agree 100% with all the complaints about the stock head unit.
I really hope you get more subscribers and views and likes. Your videos are always helpful, especially the AOS install video. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
I went with Idoing as well and compared to stock it's actually the first mod you need to do. I would like to add a subwoofer to my system. The Idoing sound with kicker speakers is about mainstream car average quality. Stock Subarus actually should be ashamed of how bad their sound is lol.
The stock HU is just a barebones unit just so you have something to play music. Not really their focus but I agree that it should come with a better stock HU instead of bargain bin HU.
Great overview tutorial. I have the idoing head unit as well in my 16 WRX. It has performed great for me but has a couple quirks and needs rebooting every once and a while, only take 20-30 seconds. Idoing probably has fixes I can download for it but I haven’t looked into it since it’s not often an issue.
I have the base audio in my '19 WRX. The 6.5" screen isn't big, but it seems to be large enough for my needs. My current audio settings, w/speed vol set at "Low", are: Bass: -7, Mid: 0, Treb +2. Also, Balance is 0/middle and Fade is full front. [note: I have no sound deadener in the doors...yet, but it's on my list] While driving (
The stock HU does not recognize all bluetooth devices. In my case, I bought a new sony walkman last year, tried to stream music through the HU, no luck. The stock HU is very limited when it comes to connectivity. If this was no a name mp3 player, I can see that, but you would expect a sony walkman to work with it out of the box. Also, I haven't found a way to contact subaru/starlink to report the bug. With that said, I would replace the stock HU as soon as I have the money and the time to do so. It will be very interesting to see how the idoing HU compares to the JVC one. Great content as always!
Awesome video. I recently change my head unit and everything works great;however , now my car wont unlock or lock with my key fob. I have a sti 2020. Any suggestions???
9:50 Wrong...No SiriusXM ready. Sucks...Question is, can I give up satellite radio and move past it so I can pull the trigger on the Idoing? Just not sure yet!
IM SO READY for those next videos! Stoked about this audio setup! I currently have the Hk system in my 2020 STI and I hate it. I'm hoping this will spruce it up
Is the idoing bezel's opening the proper dimensions to place a 9" floating HU display in, such as the Pioneer DMH-WT3800NEX? I love the idoing's look, but I don't want a Chinese product, esp electronics in my car. It looks like the idoing's opening is slightly trapezoidal, is that the case?
@@akqjtn That is understandable. As cool as it looks, it does seem overkill for the WRX. The Idoing is very interesting. You also can not beat that price.
I have a 2017 wrx without the harmon kardon package. I cant even get a smartphone to mirror on the head unit display any type of mapping app. Doesnt work via Bluetooth or the center console usb port.
Does the IDoing head unit have SiriusXM satellite radio? Also, does the bass roll off using the stock head unit with the factory subwoofer/amplifier option? Thanks.
I'm going to get the Idooing for my 2016 Impreza hatchback, but need to keep my stock speakers for the time being. Will the stock speakers be ok, or does the unit put out too much power?
Did you have any trouble with the reverse camera? I got mine a while ago but I was never able to get the reverse camera to work. I spoke to people at idoing but they couldn’t help either. I don’t know if I missed a step or something but I’m hoping your install video actually shows where the cables plug into
hey I installed kicker speakers on a 2018 forester base. Went from 4 speakers to 6 (have tweeters in the dash now). Will the idoing headunit be sufficient for powering those alone compared to the oem? is there any particular need for an amp of any kind when using the idoing head unit with the kicker speakers?
Do you know if they make a model for a 2015 base sti? I have the ugly no screen model that look 20 years old. Because my vents are not like on the 2016 models with the screen and i dont want to risk buying something that wont fit... thank you!
I'm here looking to upgrade mine because my screen has started to delaminate and is unusable. It's honestly ridiculous, I don't expose my car to extreme heat, always put the cover up for my wind shield, and my windows are tinted, but yet it is still delaminated. It's not like it's old, it's a 2019. . .
I really want one for my 2020 STI. But I have Harmon package. Is there any way that you can show what's needed for the Idoing head unit to work with STI's that have the H K package?
I have a 2016 WRX with HK package and use this head unit. Idoing will sell you a canbus unit that plugs into the head unit to decode for HK. It’s cheap and works. Just ask idoing and they will let you know what you exactly need.
@@akqjtn How do you get in touch with them? I've seen it done, and it includes a canbus decoder. But it's mainly videos on 15 - 17 WRX'S. Which some videos came with everything in one box and others had a few separate items... Now I don't know if or what the difference between the years and model of cars are ( other than the HK package that seemed like it would do the job at the time of purchase). Looking back on it now, I'd would rather have got the regular radio and just replace my speakers and and a 10" sub. I'm not a fan of aliexpess type of sites.
Yes you missed one problem with the stock radio I have a 2019 Subaru WRX the stereo is going crazy it thinks someone's touching it when no one is switching between FM AM CD player etc it won't stop beeping the volume will go all the way up OEM is garbage
Yes, I have the idoing head unit in my 16 WRX w/Harmon Kardon “upgrade”. Apple CarPlay works wired and wireless. My only gripe is on occasion it takes a while for it to connect to my phone wirelessly and on the rare occasion I need to reboot the unit which takes 20 seconds. Other than that it works great and sounds way better than stock head unit.
@@akqjtn thanks bro! I actually followed your build to a T, KW1000, alpine R series speakers and the kicker sub. It was a massive upgrade. Then I discovered focal. Got the flax series components in the front 2 ways in the back with a focal k series sub. It literally takes my breath away.
@@cade_44 No because I don't want to spend any more on the car and the issue doesn't happen as much anymore. It's not a daily driver either, I only take it out about once a week. It sits under a car cover mostly.
Man this video is so great how you explain all details. I like the last unit a lot how it already has the Plug-and-play features. Going to look into that one. As far as navigation goes once the unit is installed does the radio has it's own navigation built-in to it or you have to pair your phone to it. TY
Thanks. The stock Subaru wrx system is without a doubt the absolute worst factory Soundsystem I have ever heard. My phone speaker sounds better. Not only do the stock speakers don’t only sound horriblle, the speakers also cut in and out over bumps.
