If your having trouble clipping the unit to your car, start at the top clips then move to the upper middle clips and force those down until the latch then you’ll have to put a little force into the bottom clips but just take your time and don’t break them, clipping the head unit in took me longer than taking out the old unit and setting up the new one
Just installed a kenwood head unit along with new door panel speakers and subwoofer. It was definitely more complicated with the wiring and probably more expensive than this thing. This android head unit looks very nice!
With the research I've done, brands like kenwood are for sure better for audio and reliability. These android head units may be cool and more plug and play but the customer support and everything isn't as good. Would be awesome if kenwood and other US brands could make Android units but it's because they technically aren't legal. Great choice though I bet your audio is super crisp!
@@slowsubie6386 ok so you're right about the audio, though this sounds really good, but not up to par with a 1K dollar kenwood. Now on the support front... Have you ever tried to get on chat with Kenwood or Sony, or Pioneer. I've spent the last week basically in live chat with IDoing working through small issues. I post and I get answers in minutes(not days). I had a kenwood wireless AA unit in my old car. I spent days wiring in, and AA wireless is still the most flaky finicky thing there is. I opted to spend the 400 dollars on this instead of the 250 dollars just to get the cabling and maestro needed to move my existing kenwood over.
@@slowsubie6386 it is not that they are not legal, is that these companies are all about maximizing profit and they don't have to worry about adding the extra stuff as long as the bare minimum is done
Two Q's: 1. Can you still use the stock USB ports for Carplay/Android Auto? Guessing you may need anther 3rd party adapter? 2. Do you get beeps/warning sounds from the backup camera w/ this one? Wife will need those! :)
Great video, I just got an AP so I have to start saving up for one of these! Haha it sucks how bad the stock setup is and Idk why Subaru thought the stock stereo was ok to release this car with! I’m definitely looking forward to having Waze and better sounding speakers! Thanks for doing this install/review video!
To be honest, I didn't know until after installing that Android Auto is NOT wireless on this head unit. I'm a little disappointed, but still happy I now have it at least.
The iPhone has always used a capacitive touchscreen since the original. Many units from big name headunit companies still use resistive touch for their non flagship units but most Android units have capacitive.
Looks incredible great but i hate when radios are all touch screen at least the volume button must be physical. So this radios is not Android and carplay?...
Great video mate! I wish it was this simple on my car... I have the premium Australian version with the harman kardon speakers and amp... made it so much harder. I also made a video, but explained how I got around the factory amp!
Man!!! I’ve been following you since day one… all upgrades all. VIdeos have helped me upgrade my WRX, you should make a video with all the options you can change on the head unit .
nice unit. and thanks for the "what not to do" PSA. to me, car audio should be easy, especially for the manufacturer; however, Subaru goes out of their way to make theirs as low rent as possible, even with the high-end HK system. I know part of it has to do with anti-theft and part has to do with vehicle integration; but with all of the R&D money put into other area of the car, the car audio//infotainment side should be an easy no-brainer. That iDoing unit looks surprisingly good for Chinese unkowns. Hopefully it works for you.
From the research I did I think Idoing is the best option for the chinese brand ones. Would be awesome if US brands could make android head units but i think its because they technically aren't legal.
Mine lasted around 3-4 ish years. Then it stopped turning on. However, I was having usb connection issues within that time frame. I got use to it. Bought the newer version hoping this one turns out better
Pretty nice. I also use Android and would love to install this in my 2018. I saw Bren tuning in a NASIOC thread and people were suggesting them for an etune. Connecticut native here too. Born in New Britain and raised in Bristol. Represent!
Just installed today in my 2018, pretty simple however reverse function and wifi are not working... Update: I realized the 10 pin connector fits into 2 places and I switched them. 100% working and flawless!
Loved the video and used it myself for my install! I only got a problem. How did you get sound on the speakers & tweeters inside the cab. I only get audio from the subwoofer? Connection might be wrong?
Hey man I love your videos they're super informative and great for people just getting into Subarus! I just got my first wrx a couple months ago and I'm dying to upgrade the radio. The wrx has the worst factory audio of any car I've owned surprisingly as it's the best car I've owned since my rx7. Looking at purchasing this idoing head unit but, I want to know the pre-amp output voltage for the front, rear, and Sub outputs. I've looked on their website for the spec sheet but it doesn't have this info. When setting gains for amplifiers it's important to know what this is (most head units range from 2v-5v some cheap units even less). I know I can check this with a multimeter from the rca jacks while the unit is installed and on and I always verify the voltage before setting my gains but I prefer to know these things before I buy a head unit. Audio is always a big part of all my cars and I typically use Kenwood or Pioneer (who always have these specs on their website) but the plug and play ability to retain steering wheel controls without having to purchase additional devices and do extra wiring with the idoing is very appealing. Any chance you know what the preamp output voltage is?
Sicane has a flush screen but it's outdated in performance compared to idoing... I installed Sicane in my 15wrx a few years ago then just today installed an idoing in my 18 forester xt with HK; idoing has better Amp, screen, processor, sub features... install is plug n play but a few connections have no mate but all features function... the only issue I can apon with the idoing is that my front HK tweeters don't seem to function; if I can't remedy this I'll install aftermarket speaker Focals
So i bought mine a few months ago, and its horrible if u have issues. Theres no support, my wifi connection doesnt detect my phones, reset to factory leaves shit behind. DAB+ just gets stuck on connecting. Some Apps arent supported with android 10 and you cant update it, and you really have to force it into your dash to get it in smooth. FYI exact same model idoing
Installed this radio... it's great, but about six months down the line, the radio doesn't work. Been fiddling with it. Only works now and then when I reset it... it's really annoying
Tell me why I am watching this after realizing that I rubbed my radio the wrong way, literally. Giving my car a detail and realized there was a very small smudge on my head unit. Rubbed it pretty good and when I went to turn on my car my screen was freezing and acting a fool. Needless to say, I will be replacing the head unit with the idoing! Sold

Love the unit. Have a question. Hope you can assist. I bought a 2021 STI sport-tech with Nav & the Harman Kardon speakers. Will this unit work on my car including the steering wheel functions? Any intel would be appreciated. Thx
Hey man, just wondering on how you had Bluetooth showing instead of radio on the R top side of the home screen? thanks! ALSO bonus question, would you happen to know why my radio is not picking up any signals? thanks!
Hey man, I did this install but my radio don’t work I plugged the one wire into it the one plug and am left with a blue wire with a cap on the radio side and the car side I’m left with a 4 pin plug with aluminum and plastic shaped like a upside down L
I have a 2014 wrx and saw that most of these head units are easier to get for the newer models that have the silver aircon vents. Would I just be able to get the silver aircon vents from a newer model rexy getting wrecked and use them and it all still work normally on my older Rex?
Great video man! I have two questions before I decide to pull the trigger on it. Is their a way I can get the HD radio? As I sometimes like to use the radio so I just wanna make sure it’ll work! My other question is to use the usb do we have to use the ones in the back of the unit instead of the one in center console? Thanks for a great in depth video keep it up!
You have to use the ones on the side of unit. I have mine on IG from the passenger. You can still retain your middle USB’s for charging but won’t work for controlling the unit.
I'm waiting for my unit to arrive. My main confusion is the USB connection for center console. Does that not work and if not is there no extra harness to make it work ?
Hey, great video! I just installed mine and I’m having trouble with the back up camera. It says “no signal”. Im also getting the check engine light which wasn’t there before 🤦🏽♀️ Any suggestions ?
You were showing how the unit came with external GPS antenna and a microphone. Does this unit work with the existing ones as well? I'm also wondering if there is a function for programming preset text messages. Stock head unit has a few preset messages you can send while driving, but you can't customize them. Is the unit fully operational while driving or does it still lock you out and you can't enter an address manually?
you can decide if you want it to limit you when driving(settings), otherwise completely operational. No it will not work with built in gps and mic(at least not without cutting).
There was a couple of wires that I couldn't figure it out where to connect them, specially one thin blue one, I didn't plugged it, and everything works fine so far 🤷🏻♂️
Got this installed a couple days ago . Any way to change the theme like other Idoing models ? Can’t seem to find the setting as easily as the other ones
Does the backlighting auto-dim when your headlights come on? Also if you adjust the brightness of the dash backlighting, does it also adjust the head unit backlighting?
Hi…Installed my head unit..The few issues I ran into was the Wi-Fi kept turning off until I plugged the 4G antenna in. Now the issue I came across was the clarity is not very good for the reverse camera I can’t find any settings to adjust it assume it’s in the passcoded section. Any insight?
Yeah! Just have to be in range of my home wifi and used Google play to download new apps. Already downloaded a screen brightness control app to lower the screen at night. Works perfectly
@@WRXGarage I tryed... but the problem in mine, after downloading the app my zlink display disappears... as in blank but it seems to be connected music playing but no display on the head unit... wireless and plugged in...
Hmmm.. I turn the wifi function off as soon as Im done downloading apps so it's not constantly searching for new wifi. Maybe yours is using a different connection type? Also, try redownloading zlink from the app store. If nothing else works you can factory reset the headunit in the settings.
I just bought the same unit and connected everything but I can't get the whole unit to clip in properly. when I clip in the top first, the bottom pops out and vice-versa. Did you have any issues like that?

Are you able to use Waze (via carplay) while the radio is on (or even have a thumb drive in). I just swapped my 2019 factory with one and that is the only thing I can't figure out how to set up. Would really like to figure that out! I always ride with waze up.
What may be the problem with this Idoing product is that the USB connection is not working, I have tried it many times, the Android phone is not compatible through the cable, everything else is working fine. Thanks!
it works, but reception on all of these units is bad. If you live off you FM radio and don't live real close to your tower, I suggest getting a standard head unit. That said these things offer so much more than a normal double din.
what voltage does the headunit put out? consensus that android headunits are garbage for sound quality... anybody that upgrades the stock headunit is going to "sound better" because it sends more voltage to the speakers. but how much? trying to compare to the well known headunit manufactures in sound.
hi Do your speakers have hissing white noise when the music is paused? I have 2015 Subaru forester xt radio w/ Harman Kardon speakers without Nav. I have experiencing this issue with the installation.
question: do you need to ground the wire that is labeled as “park” or something close to that. I heard that you have to ground it in order to be able to type when driving or something
Im waiting on my unit should be here soon, did you route all your USB cables into the glove box only or is there anywhere else you can route them. Middle console??
I routed 1 under the unite in place of the Accessory plug, I put two in the glove box as well as ran the Center cable to the console. I then ordered the adapter from amazon for 15 dollars and connected it to one of the usbs in the glove box, and now I have I have 4 USBs all provide power and all work with android auto/usb thumb drives
@@Y012AD you plug one end into the stock console usb plug that's behind your radio. You plug the other end into one of the USB-A plugs off your head unit. It lets the 2 USBs you have in your center console work with the new HU.

Also, try redownloading zlink from the app store.
If nothing else works you can factory reset the headunit in the settings.
@@WRXGarage thanks... will try..👍
one more thing, does your unit has mirror screening?
I just bought the same unit and connected everything but I can't get the whole unit to clip in properly. when I clip in the top first, the bottom pops out and vice-versa. Did you have any issues like that?
Same issue here :( did ya ever figure it out? Or just man handle it into place?
@@themesican5540 update?? Anyone? Can’t get it :(
@@marincusman9303 tbh aas of rn i still cant 100% get it flush lmao i just popped top and bottom at the same time so its basically even on both but it isnt all the waay in. i havent tried pushng it again i just left it to where it doesnt bother me much :(
@@themesican5540 all it took for me was pushing in on the top corners of the screen at the same time with a decent amount of force and it pops in and fits perfect all around. I say give it a shot, I’m definitely glad I did.
@@marincusman9303 ill try the corner thing. just popping in top first makes the bottome come out and vice versa i got irritated and left it since lmao but today ill give it shot
Are you able to use Waze (via carplay) while the radio is on (or even have a thumb drive in). I just swapped my 2019 factory with one and that is the only thing I can't figure out how to set up.
Would really like to figure that out! I always ride with waze up.
Yeah! You can play music with Bluetooth, Android auto/Spotify, etc while using Waze.
What may be the problem with this Idoing product is that the USB connection is not working, I have tried it many times, the Android phone is not compatible through the cable, everything else is working fine. Thanks!
Which usb isn't working? The oem location or the added usb ports?
@@WRXGarage i tried both, not compatible, maybe I need to make settings on which device?
Try using a different cable. Also, are you on the correct application?
@@WRXGarage thanks, i will try!
Make sure to press the Zlink app
What's the FM radio quality like? Good reception and sound quality?
it works, but reception on all of these units is bad. If you live off you FM radio and don't live real close to your tower, I suggest getting a standard head unit. That said these things offer so much more than a normal double din.
Where did you purchase your idoing
Did you have issues with the reverse camera when you take e brake off? Like a yellow triangle?
No, haven't noticed any issues. Reverse cam works with and without ebrake on
Do you have a link for this product? and is it the latest and best one from iDoing?
what’s the best one for Apple car play? BecUse i want one exactly like this but for apple car play.
IDoing also makes this exact model with apple carplay. I think this one might have both actually
@@WRXGarage Is there anyway you can findout? If anything i’ll just buy the one with apple car play.
@@nixwrx it’s got wireless CarPlay as well so don’t buy a dongle for it. There’s Vids on here showing how to set it up.
Ur did the head unit on a 2015 Wrx when I look in description says from 2016 and up did u have any trouble and did the control on steering wheel work
Where did you buy this unit? Looks great!
Aliexpress!
@@WRXGarage thank you so much!
Would this work on a Subaru Impreza Sport 2017?
How did you reinstall the bolts you took out initially? Also, where did you route your USB cable for Apple Carplay/Android Auto. Thanks in advance!
I routed the cable into the glovebox! And you don't reinstall the bolts it holds itself in place really well.
@@WRXGarage Awesome, thank you so much! That was an extremely quick reply.
🙌 we try to stay on top of things
what voltage does the headunit put out? consensus that android headunits are garbage for sound quality... anybody that upgrades the stock headunit is going to "sound better" because it sends more voltage to the speakers. but how much? trying to compare to the well known headunit manufactures in sound.
I believe this headunit puts out around 25-30 watt RMS to 4 speakers! Stock is less than 10w rms.
@@WRXGarage jesus... thats incredibly low for a headunit and could cause interference. thanks for letting me know.
hi Do your speakers have hissing white noise when the music is paused? I have 2015 Subaru forester xt radio w/ Harman Kardon speakers without Nav. I have experiencing this issue with the installation.
How much does this setup run you?
Hey what did you connect to have the buttons on the steering wheel to work? (Audio buttons)
question: do you need to ground the wire that is labeled as “park” or something close to that. I heard that you have to ground it in order to be able to type when driving or something
Im waiting on my unit should be here soon, did you route all your USB cables into the glove box only or is there anywhere else you can route them. Middle console??
If you buy a usb extension from Amazon, it would be pretty easy to route it under the shifter trim tunnel back to the center console
@@marcdukette5095 what does the adapter do?
@@Y012AD you plug one end into the stock console usb plug that's behind your radio. You plug the other end into one of the USB-A plugs off your head unit. It lets the 2 USBs you have in your center console work with the new HU.

Been looking to swap out my pioneer nex unit with Android is there a way to hook up subwoofer and amp rca pre outs on this unit for my sub amp
Yeah! This thing has preamp and rca outputs. It also has a sub output
Did you re-use the stock oem brackets on the Idoing??
Nope! The entire idoing unit just presses into the oem clips.
