I graduated from High School in 1984 so I remember that summer quite well. LOL!
The fact is *SPOILERS*
I think this movie is actually something special! There's a couple of messages and meanings that I think flew over people's heads. Maybe because of the downer ending, maybe due to the jerky execution (the tonal shift is a little too abrupt and unsettling, probably on purpose, but someone could see it as a flaw).
I actually think the third act was a middle finger to the sugarcoated nostalgia of the 80s. The fact that they never find the guy is the coolest aspect of the movie.
That's his revenge: I'll be out there so you will be ALWAYS AFRAID (end of innocence), also I killed your friend and it's your fault (you're not kids anymore, your parents can't protect you, life is dangerous, there are stakes).
A little kid doomed to live with fear and regret for the rest of his life. BOOM. It's a gut punch!
I loved it, the ending elevated this movie just before I dismissed it as another well done but empty kids-on-bikes nostalgia movie.
Wouldn't necessarily say this alone is too special but it definetely worked, never expected they'd kill of a kid in a movie like this, kinda knew somethign was coming though when the other 2 ditched them since it's pretty unusual for such a group to just split up like this.
The concept of "i let you go because it's worse then death" is pretty cheesy by itself but they made it suprisingly believable.
Overall i really liked it, guess i'm lucky i'm not already fed up with 80s nostalgia.

I remember the summer of 1984. I was in grade 7. 1983-1986 were some of the best years of my life. So innocent (yet mischievous) and fun. I wish kids today could experience the life we had sans cell phones/social media. Would go back in a heart beat if a genie could grant me the wish. the 80s was the best decade.
it wasnt fantastic or original but that ending i didn't expect! I liked the whole "I'm gonna leave you to wait till i come back" because he ultimately destroyed that kids life.

This movie has somewhat elements from an Alfred Hitchcock movie Rear Window .
Back then teenagers weren't like those shown in the movie it was completely a different era since there wasn't internet and all that jazz of social media , we played with toys, discovered the first consoles and the arcade games , trading baseball cards or other stuff etc.....

It kinda reminds me of the movie disturbia with Shia LaBeouf when they try to solve the murder, he has a crush on the girl next door, no friends though, the neighbor is the killer but he does indeed die at the end lol oh and Shia is on house arrest lol so yea kinda the same but different lol 😆

Love the reviews as always, you really need to have a stack of horror dvds just to your right (left as the viewer looks).
All I can say is that I was there in 84 at the same age as these guys. This is exactly what it was like. The girl in the movie was obviously only 17 or 18, since she was going to college. Many times a baby sitter is only a few years older than the kid she's watching. I liked the movie. I watch alot of true crime. So many real serial killers have gotten away just like in this movie, so to me it was very realistic.

Unfortunately I do remember 1984, I was 10 and at primary school. My parents were cool so at the time I was watching horror films, although 84 was a bad year in the UK as that was the year of the Video Nasties bill (the government tightened censorship on videos after video shops were renting out films like Zombie Flesh Eaters, Texas Chainsaw, Cannibal Holocaust) So a lot of my favourite horror films were pulled from shelves and some video shop owners actually went to prison for hiring out videos that our stupid government had decided to ban. A bad time for horror fans that started in 84 and went through till the late 90s early 2000s when the laws were lifted!!!
Agreed - film had potential, but it's just a nostalgia piece for nostalgia's sake and an underwritten mystery.

I would never skip ahead in one of your videos! that being said, I ordered this movie from Amazon, and am still waiting for it to arrive. I had to stop your video at 3:18, because I was afraid you were going to enter spoiler territory. I'll definitely revisit it after I've had a chance to watch the film, though.

I couldn’t finish watching this movie. I just didn’t care for any of the characters or the premise. I was 11 in 1984 and I had older friends: No one acted like these kids!!

I may stand really fucking stupid, but I liked this movie more than Rear Window. Again, I’m probably the most stupid fucking thing on Earth, but that’s my opinion on this movie lol.

I did enjoy this movie especially when at the end you have a bit of a pay off and some surprises it made the rest of the movie worth watching. I thought that the 80s art direction in the movie was OKAY not nearly as good as stranger things or it remake but I may agree with you in that it probably does not have good re-watch abilityOnce you know the reveal and the ending extra points for a couple of scenes with some well done gore FX
I can completely understand why some people didn't dig this movie, the last 10 minutes and the dialogue were a bit shaky but I think overall it was worth a watch
