  • Horror | USA. So what we have here is a classic "haunted" old house story that's basically just a throwback to the horror movies of the late '70s/early '80s. Sounds cool enough, right? Well... let's see!

Love, it. It's a bit tongue in cheek. The spectors are.magnificent. for a better Fulci tribute with touches of Bava.... The Abandoned by Nacho Cerda and written by Richard Stanley has the same amazing cinematographer Karim Hussein. It is magnificent start to finish. A slow burn with Italian style.dream like non cohesive narrative and plays it straight throughout. A sincere mood piece punctuated by astonishing gruesome moments and beautiful cinematography and editing. Definitely check that one out if you like this one, or Fulci.

3:55 Lisa Marie first horror film role was a small one in that sadistic slasher film from 1981: Dead and Buried.
She plays a young hitch hiker who gets slaughtered.

I have two films I'd love your opinion on: one I thought I'd hate that I loved and one I thought I'd love that I hated. One is "LFO" and one is "They Look Like People." I suppose I won't say which is which. I actually really instantly loved your channel - you're great!

Very similar to what I thought when I watched the movie. I remember saying that the only reason I was going to remember it in the future was the visuals and the effects in the end.

Great review, and you are right- it grows on you. I bought it on DVD like 6 months ago and was like, "meh!" It was just like you reviewed it. Just last week I watched it again with my family and just LOVED it the 2nd time! The atmosphere and the deliberate slow pace was less of a problem- as a matter of fact, it helped suck me in. Shit dude, I sure love your channel.

I know I'm probably repeating myself, but have you seen Bone Tomahawk? It's one of the best horror films I've seen in years. I've probably asked this before, but... well, it's so good it's worth possibly repeating myself if there's a chance you missed it.

I agree with what people say it is like a Lucia fulchi movie or George romeo. I'm a huge fan of those old movies. the problem for me was Lucio fulchi had fantastic atmosphere in his movies. he achieved it thru the awesome music in his movies as well as his style of directing. we are still here was lacking because the music was forgetful but it was still a great movie with a gory well made ending. like u said it's a lot better than a lot of Hollywood's resent movies. great review as all ways. :)

I thought it did pretty well as a throwback kind of film better than the large amount of "Oh look at us we are being retro and making an 80s style horror flick" movies we get these days. And I think the ending is a very good kind of pay off similar to the ending of House by the Cemetery with all the corpses in the basement and the reveal of Freudstein as well as the ending to The Beyond with all the zombies, the gore, the basement and the kind of down note ambiguous ending.

Ever hear of siskel and ebert ? You blow them away !!! Hands down ! Love your laid back beer drinking style -VG
I liked this film. I liked the feel of it. The ending rocked like crazy ! I was a child when these types along with the grindhouse, and "just what the hell are we going to film next to shock people films" were coming out.
Once or twice a month we would get to the dbl feature at the drive-in theatre (man, I miss those) and catch these sometimes silly, sometimes awesome, movies. For me the crazier the better.
I don't know your age, but when I was in High school, my friends and I would get to the packed house of the Midnight movies at a particular theater in S.A. Tx. That place was hopping. Good times :) I'm pretty sure that I saw the original Night of the living dead there several times. To this day that film creeps me out, must be some left over residual from my teens ? Thanks again bro.

As much as I like a crazy intense ending to a slow movie, I think the cracks really started to show, film making wise, during those action sequences. There were moments that just looked very cheap and not even in an old fashioned way. And The whole climax would have been far more engaging had the middle section of the movie been... better. I'm too lazy to come up with something more constructive. But I'm liking these videos keep it up!

I appreciated this movie for what it set out to be and enjoyed the turn it took at the last 20 minutes. Over all minus the acting of some I found it very watchable. It really was great eye candy. Throwing out a few movie recommendations. I'd really enjoy hearing your thoughts. I am a very big Eduardo Sanchez you should scope out seventh moon and lovely Molly.

Finally got to checking this one out after watching this review. I was pleasantly surprised, one of the first decent horror movies to have come out in a very long time. Had some good oldschool roots and was a lot more original than the overly-formulaic crap that comes out nowadays (e.g. - The Conjuring, the most overrated turd I've seen in a long time, had every freaking trope in it from a dog barking at nothing to a kid suddenly having an imaginary friend to a ghost in the mirror...ugh, it was like a "Horror 101" project created by a robot measuring the statistics of successful horror movies and then tossing all the elements together).
Only issue I had with it was that it didn't really expand on what the hell "The Darkness/Old Gods" were that the Dagmars (the ghosts of the movie) were sacrificed to, which originally set this all in motion. The Dagmars were not the enemies, and in fact were the heroes at the end of the film in a way. The enemy was the thing they were killing for, that they were feeding - which was only mentioned a couple times yet responsible for all of the events in the newspaper clippings during the credits, and had the entire town terrified enough to sacrifice families to the house. Whatever it was was immensely powerful, yet had no actual meaningful exposition on it, which I was pretty disappointed about.

Have you tried Grilhouse? It has a kind of cool vilian ( even thou he is overrated by a lot of fans)really cool setup, gory kills and overall it is a good slasher flick, very classic if you ask me, with a slow build up and a grande finale ( even thought the setup maybe is a bit too long, but hey, it took friday the 13th a while to kill of some charackters aswell. I guess you have to proof yourself, I for myself enjoyed watching it, mostly because the setup is just very cool and unique ^^

I totally agree with your review.
I had low expectations going into this movie and I ended up laughing out loud at the over the top gore in the end of the movie, as I wasn't expecting it.
So for me it was a fun movie to watch. I think this could be one of those movies that will get a cult following over time as there is something in this film, even with all it's flaws, that attracts me to it.

are you still continuing the stephen king series? i would love to see what you think of the mist, as opinions are kind of divided on that one. I really liked it, especially because of the crazy religious character (of which stephen king seems to have a lot in his books, i see a reocurring theme :p), and the confined location. I wasn't a big fan of the ending, I think it would have worked better if the reveal didn't come immediately after the father did *you know what* (don't want to spoil anything for non viewers).
Also the shawshank redemption and the green mile are among my favourite movies so i would love to see them covered in a video :D
Keep up the good work! groetjes van België

I thought this one was fair to decent. I tend to put on netflix in the background while i play games and realized at some point about half way in or so I was paying less attention to the game and watching the movie more. I suppose that's pretty rare with me but i guess it also says something about the movie.
I think it was actually the slow pace that drew me in. I originally read the description and decided i already knew what this was going to be. But i was proven wrong.
The ghosts were very nicely done and very different from anything i've seen.
The husband played the non-believer pretty badly i thought, i just didn't buy his performance. The sister was boring. I really liked the stoner boyfriend in this and that's usually one of the more annoying stereotypes to me.
Overall, not a masterpiece by any means but engaging visually and story wise and even genuinely creepy in some scenes.

I thought this movie was fantastic. Yes it was, I guess slow moving, but I think the last part of the movie more than made up for slowness and maybe that was what the filmmakers were going for. The ending did leave me hanging as I wasn't sure if their son was really there and that was why they were saved or maybe he was one of the spirits. "House of the Devil" was the same exact way. Nothing much happened in the first 2/3's of the movie and all hell broke loose in the last 1/3. I would definitely watch this again and did recommend this to friends. Thoroughly enjoyed this film and would tell anyone to give it a view!

Hey buddy, just wanted to ask if you have seen the film Troll Hunter? Its a great found footage film on Netflix that offers a unique idea on the genre.

I really liked that movie, and I don't generally like found-footage movies.

I love some crazy over the top gore, but it really doesn't seem like it feels right with the rest of the movies athmosphere
