- With the upcoming new It movie, I thought it would be cool to go back to my "The films of Stephen King" series and take a look at the (original) 1990 made-for-tv mini-series It.
The video ended up being a little longer than I intended but hey. I guess I just had more to say than I thought. Hope you enjoy the video!

I remember watching it as a child the thing that made it amazingly scary is tim curry stellar acting his facial expressions were iconic
I thought there was one quick scene in this movie that was genuinely scary. Its not in this video. Anyone who's seen the movie knows what I'm talking about. Its right after Bev shoots Pennywise with the slingshot and he goes down the drain. He grabs one of their arms and his hand slowly morphs into a monstrous 3-fingered reptilian appendage before sliding in. That one shot always unsettled me, I guess because it seems like its taking its true form but you can't see much of it so your imagination goes crazy thinking about what he turned into.
He has returned!!! And perfect timing, the remake is gonna be amazing!

Great review of the movie and I totally agree with you. I've read the book and saw both movies, well the first part of 2017. I can tell you that there is a lot left out from the book. There is one particular element that you kinda touched on that is left out. It's about the interdimensional embodiement of evil and the other embodiement of good which shows itself in the form of a giant turtle. The book gets really out there with this. It's Stephan King in his prime. I think anyone who is a fan of the movies should give the book a read. I read it when i was 14 . Took me the whole summer!

This movie came on TV when I was 9 years old. It scared the shit out of me!
I just got back from seeing IT (2017) and it was fantastic! As a kid I loved the book and I hated the mini-series and I didn't think I was going to be impressed with the new adaptation, but they nailed it! Kept so many great book moments but changed enough to make it exciting for people who are very familiar with the book and they are some great changes, like the warped painting woman. I hope we see Part 2
Do The Stand. Also IT scared me good at ten years old. Kids getting killed is a scary theme for kids and relatively novel of a concept in movies to that point
Don't forget about the Stand.

People watched the kids portion most of the time. I remember my teenage brother making fun of me for being scared by it . I think it works best for scaring kids because it's from children's perspective and really captures a worst case scenario for a child. Being hunted down by an insanely powerful entity that adults can't help you with

Great assessment of It man! To me the best part of It was Tim Curry, that acting and costume was superb. The ending was quite anticlimactic though, totally agree there.

I wish he would take ten seconds to talk about the Netherlands beer he's drinking. I love the fact he sometimes has a lager and then a darker stout.
This beer was actually from Croatia! But yessss I do try to switch it up all the time haha
I remember seeing this when I was about ten or eleven years old the cover art on the current home media release scared me too much. And one day I popped in the disc and I was blown away by how good and scary it was. I've always preferred the first half cause at least that one didn't get to the point of a room full of balloons and a cheesy severed head in a fridge level of silliness that part 2 got to. Honestly upon rewatching as an adult in attempting not to let the Nostalgia blind me I find that this TV miniseries, that everyone calls a movie for some reason, really is just campy and too silly to actually be carry the proper atmosphere to be scary. That being said I still think the first part of it is actually pretty solid even if it's a bit campy and for sure the one thing about this adaptation that makes it stand out is Tim Curry's performance as Pennywise. And that's where I think this new adaptation gets it wrong, what made the TV mini-series version of Pennywise great was that he looked like a normal clown but Tim Curry's acting abilities and actions made him scary in this new adaptation they made a Pennywise overly scary looking and not like an actual normal clown at all (honestly he kind of looks like one of the Killer Klowns from Outer Space) which in turn I think makes Pennywise Bounce Off the Wall from being scary and it just looks hilariously awfu.l I get the feeling that with this new adaptation the reason reason they made him look overly scary is either to get butts in the seats because a lot of people in the mainstream don't realize that it looks too creepy to be actually scary or because they doubt the acting ability of this actor portraying Pennywise. And that's really all I have to say about the TV mini series adaptation as well as this new film adaptation, I haven't seen it the new film yet but I plan on it.
