The concept that a man who cheated would be upset that his wife is not focusing on 'the right thing' to be upset about (right thing being HIS unhappiness in the marriage) is RANCID.
10:00 Saw this on reddit recently: "My husband can't seem to wrap his brain around the fact that if he wants a wife, he needs to make sure I get to be more than just a mom. When you hand me that identity and force me to live it at all times because you either can't handle being a dad or don't want to whatever, well, then you don't get a wife. You get a mom. And mom doesn't fuck you." It was on a thread related to that marathon runner whose husband let her kids run out into the path before the finish line.
This is why i will never give up anything to be married. If a marriage perfectly fits into my life, sure. But until then im single. If it never happens, thats fine too
Women are not supposed to give up sh!t! It's the Man who pursues the women, so he has to give up on things. Not the other way around. Women forget nature. In nature females chill and don't sacrifice anything to get a male. It's the male's who sacrifice their literal lives just to have her.
Sadly this is a tale as old as time. Men want a woman who will be Barbara the Builder and when those men come up they leave those women and suddenly have amnesia forgetting the fact that the wife played a role in his success.
I watched it in 2019 and was surprised that the guy directed it casue the male character in film is pathetic. Didn't realise back then that director's intention was to picture him as a tragic hero. It apparently did not work😂
Omg same I felt sorry for him in the wrong way. I felt like he was a pathetic, self centered moron who maybe _meant_ well but was horrible at executing it. The fact that her life got so much better the more she distanced herself from him is hilarious. The line about him having a laugh with someone else is peak arrogance, too. Don't be upset that I cheated on you, be upset that I bothered to form a connection with someone else. I can't be upset about both???😂
If a guy of broke, insecure, abusive and is a liar (which most men are) then I don’t care enough to be marriage material to them . They not wanting me should be a compliment
This is so incredibly wild! This man made a whole movie trying to look like a victim and the real ones see right through it. I feel like this was an obvious outing with the dialogue and the actions portrayed. I haven’t watched this movie, but from your review I see that it’s necessary. What a mess!
We all know that people with little creativity base everything on verbatim themselves. The fact it didn’t backfire more spectacularly says everything about Hollywood/the world
Another brilliant analysis, chocked full of facts. I love this channel! As a mom, that first year after our kid was born, my body was overatimulated by being sucked on, kicked, grabbed, puked on, pooped and peed on. At night, I couldn't take any stimulus, especially on my mammary glands. It felt like I was just a meat bag that people used to satisfy their physical needs. No one touched me for my sake. Also, "I could have had sex with all these women, but I didn't," isn't the flex he thinks it is. "I could have thrown my trash on the ground, but I didn't." "I could have just pooped anywhere but I didn't." All I think is, "yeah...so? You want a gold star sticker?" It's just common decency, not a high bar of morality. Lastly, I thought he kinda forced himself into the Barbie script. (Bonus fun fact: Gerwig was called by Nolan, who suggested their movies coming out on the same day wasn't a good idea, so maybe she should move her movie. She replied if it mattered to him, he should move his movie instead. 😂)
11:45 Ok, so I have experience with this exact issue, a guy who sprinted into marriage and then talks about how his wife trapped him and took away his freedom...it's a combo of low self esteem on his end (I don't know if I will get another woman, so guess I got to commit to this, boohoo me....) AND wanting a fall guy for why their life did not turn out exactly how they wanted (well, I would have, but my WIFE held me back.....).
Oh I bet he hates Greta. If she ever sheds her pick-me mindset we will learn just how much he hates her. Hopefully for her & their kids he never explodes into on of those violent jealous rages
I'm not a fan of her movie Lady Bird either and if she couldn't interpret how terrible her own dynamic was with her mother avatar I think it definitely explains being okay with being the mistress turned wife because you're really set up to chase approval by that dynamic
What’s the matter with men cheating on pregnant women?! I feel so disappointed knowing this, it feels unnatural and can’t comprehend why. Agh! Awesome video and analysis Lisa!!
It's because a child is the ultimate trap. They feel that now, finally, they can treat their partner as badly as they've always wanted, because she won't go anywhere with the child.
@@no.6377It's a signal of true adulthood and their inability and unwillingness to embrace that adulthood that kicks it off, at least that's my theory. It's the desire for perpetual boyishness
Only 10 minutes in, but you SLAUGHTERED this, I fear!!! I do film analysis as well and am a somewhat militant feminist, and I remember seeing all the same things you are pointing out. I’ve never been married but this movie did trigger me a bit, and it was because of the “feel sorry for me, a white man” ending. I love how in the end of the movie she was very indifferent to him and just moved on with her life like she didn’t care. He probably wrote her like that to villainize her, but it made her a boss, bad azz B in my eyes!! Please do more film analysis from a feminist lens.. I make these types of videos and LOVE TO WATCH THEM we need more!! You are saying allllll the things I wish I could say! 😂😂🏆🏆
Marriage Story was insufferable for exactly this whole self-adulation of an autobio character very clearly in the wrong and with a distorted self-image -- and when it started getting awards I was pretty flabbergasted. Granted it was acted well, but oh my god!
Yep, says it all about Hollywood. It was just pretentious. Nothing original about it cause this is most people’s divorce. If it had sparked a revolution it would have been worth it
Omg the whole trail of women - Justine to Tallulah to Grimes to... some employee? (The Ashley Vance biography talks extensively about Justine and Tallulah.)
What a great deep dive! I saw a wonderful review by another creator, but this brought out even more info...more of the back story. It really makes us understand how diabolical men are...they literally have NO shame!
I watched this back in 2019 and hated the main dude- he came off as such a selfish jerk (and I didn't even know anything about the director, Greta, or anything). I saw a snippet of an innterview with the director and he said he wrote it b/c of his own failed marriage....and I felt bad for the ex-wife (who I didn't know it was either). Now? This whole movie is just gross.
Jennifer Jason Leigh! She was in Fargo Season 5 and I just can’t forget her! Amazing, stellar performance. I think she’s the best actor in that season. I can’t believe someone would call her a “hack”!
Oh shit. I didn't know who wrote this or what the back story was at all. I am an empty-nester now, but basically I saw the whole thing from the Mother's point of view and how my early life was affected the same exact ways. I had my son as I was graduating a trade school graphic design program and then cheating, and much worse, so I had to go. OMG. I saw this movie the way you are describing it. UGH. I wish I didn't know the back story.
I HATED this movie so much. The wife was absolutely demonized for simply reacting to the abuse and cheating she endured during the marriage. She gave up her life for a man that ended up ruining it and cheating on her. How VERY DARE they make her an equal villian here. Not coincidentially, I was going thru a divorce myself when I watched it, and it mirrored my own experience in MANY ways. While it did make me feel seen, it was absolutely infuriating
And then the only reason I know such a guy exists is because of this movie. I saw some clips from the movie though I didn’t watch it. And even this movie is based on his ex wife. His ex wife to him is a gift which keeps on giving for him, isn’t she? Dude is a 🤡
I haven't seen the movie, just felt the topic will be depressing. I have watched a review from Cinema Therapy (2 blokes rating movies) and they weren't fooled by Noah's writing, they nailed him - irational person who can't take accountability for his actions. Also a lot of me, me, me ...narcissist seeping through
Frustrates and saddens me so much how many accolades and accomplishments men get credit for while women do the shitwork to free up their leisure time, mental space, etc. to enable it. When women make it, it is usually all on them or paid labor of other women - not their husbands doing the shitwork. Would enjoy your analysis of the Martha Stewart documentary.

Can you imagine how not centered on Ken and good the Barbie movie would have been if he didn't co-write it?
Rightttt
Wait?!?! A men co-wrote Barbie movie?
Yes pleeease!! The way they made BARBIE apologize to KEN! For what??

SAME! Watched it in 2020 I think, and thought he couldn't be more ridiculous. Always found the lawyer's speech absolutely iconic.
Adam Drivers roles are often 🚩🚩characters.
Men and self awareness 😮
Noah Baumbach doesn't even come from "nothing," he grew up in Park Slope and his dad was a professor at Brooklyn College.
That "freedom without responsibility" being a baby, quote, was so savage and real.....😂😂😂

Homicide is a leading cause of death amongst pregnant women.
They infect you with their demon semen then hate you for it. 4B is the only way forward.
